Due to a busy schedule on Tuesday, January 6th, I did not have the time for my usual leisurely lunch. As I was motoring down 290 East, I spotted the Carving Board Deli. After perusing the Triple Decker menu, I decided on the Overdraft(roast beef, turkey breast, mozzarella cheese, lettuce, tomato horseradish & deli dressing on whole wheat bread) with a little bag of sour cream and onion chips. It was quite a delightful change. I’ll have to had the Carving Board to my ‘favorites’ list.

Pros: –Sandwich was ok. Got the BLT. Had a nice, field greens variety of lettuce that seemed bagged, but fresh — not slimy, as mentioned in previous reviews. –Not super expensive — $ 4.95 for BLT on wheat. Seemed pretty reasonable. –Polite Staff — guy that took our order was very friendly. –The place seems to have a decent variety of not just sandwiches, but salads, fruit and yogurt. Cons: — It seemed to take a little long just to make two simple sandwiches. I had the BLT and my co-worker got the Reuben — your basic staples of the sandwich world. What should have taken us about 20 minutes, ended taking almost 45. I’ll call ahead if we ever go back and see if that helps. All in all, the sandwich was ok, the folks there seemed nice enough, just need things to move along a little faster. :)

Beware: So slow!!! This place takes forever even when it isn’t lunch time!!! My two stars are more due to service issues than food quality. In fact, I actually really like the food at CB Deli. The Deli Club double decker is amazing — avocado, cucumber, turkey, lettuce, tomato, mustard, all good. A large and filing sandwich. The cookies are huge! Their fruit smoothie is ok, and the fruit platter in the morning is one of the healthiest options around. That said, there is always some type of service problem happening here. It takes them forever from the time you order to when the food is ready. At first I thought this was an anomaly but I’ve been here now about 5 times and over the months the length of time to get lunch just gets longer and longer. I had my final straw last week when I ordered and waited 35 minutes on 1 sandwich to go. There were about 10 other people waiting and folks kept coming in to pick up huge catering orders. I ran over my lunch break and had to quickly eat at my desk back at the office but after 20 minutes I was tempted to get up and leave and forfeit my $ 8. A lot of people waiting with me changed their orders to to-go and left immediately once they got their lunches. Even when I call in and order ahead it takes a while to pick up b/c there is no designated to-go cashier. You must wait behind 3 or 4 people to place and pay for their orders to pick up your sandwich which you’ve been looking at behind the counter for 5 minutes. I think they need more people in the kitchen. Also, the décor is about 20 years old and looks like they’re in no hurry to update anything. So bottom line, it’s not a bad sandwich place, but they take waaayyyy too long for a quick lunch spot. I guess the secret may be to call and place your order ahead at 11:30am so that it’s ready for you to pick up at 12 or 12:15-ish. I’d much rather go to Thunderbird and get in and out with my food in 5 to 10 minutes tops. Too bad.

Waited 45 mins from the moment we stepped in the door for a mediocre $ 8 sandwich that I could’ve made at home. Was very dissatisfied with the service. Never going back.

Small crappy sandwich for which they charged $ 1.25 for bacon and didn’t tell me they charged per slice. My stupid sandwich ended up costing $ 11 with tip and they didn’t even use the two slices of bacon they charged me for.

I first experienced cbd back in January 2012. I’d passed by it numerous times but not once gave a thought to pop in. On this particular day I was coming around the underpass and figured what the heck. I popped in and ordered a triple decker on wheat. They seem to use good quality boars head meats. The cookies aren’t so bad either. I’ve only eaten the chocolate chip but it’s only been hard on me once. My co-worker loves the pastrami they serve. It’s not a bad little place and I’d advise calling in to go.

Very good sandwiches! Wish they had a better option when it comes to sides. Ruffles are boring, would prefer baked chips or something else.

All i can say is Meh. I’ve experienced better. Sandwich ok, not very big(but fair price), tortilla soup was bad, tortilla chips are dropped into soup and are soggy by the time the soup gets to table, and it seems like they drop tomatoes in right before serving. They bring food to your table, but dont bring spoons or napkins so you then have to get up to get them. I guess I am spoiled, having eaten at Katz and Second Ave Deli in NYC, that have huge sandwiches with great meat and 2nd ave has wonderful soups. I guess I will skip deli eating until I can get back to the City.

Pretty good sandwich, nothing fancy though, looks much like something I would make in my own kitchen. The prices are fair, the special is a deal. It took quite a while to put together my meal, however there were only two ladies working there at the time. I’d return, if I forget my lunch at home again and am craving a sandwich.

I drive on 290 everyday and saw this place off the freeway. I was a big fan of Fricano’s Deli but since they moved down to the drag I can’t take the time to get there from my location. So I decided to give this place a shot. To sum it up it’s ok but not worth the trip for me. The soup I got was ok(Tuscan) but small size. I got a chicken salad sandwich to go with. This is were I was very disappointed. The bread looked like HEB brand wheat bread. Nothing hearty which I would expect from a true deli. The chicken salad itself wasn’t anything to write home about. Not the worst but again the size was small. Total for ½ sandwich and soup was $ 6.47. For the amount I got was not impressed for the price. I really wanted to find another gem like Fricano’s(which is high priced but worth every finger licking bite) but this place just didn’t make the grade.

Do not eat their torilla soup!!! My co-worker & I both got salmonella poisoning when we had lunch together. I called the deli to report the food poisoning. She was very nice and apologized. She admitted that she only makes a completely fresh pot of soup 2 or 3 times a week. Said she just made a fresh batch for the upcoming lunch… this means we ate the last of the last before it FINALLY got thrown out. Now I’m throwing up still 2 days later. BEWARE! This is really sad because there are not any healthy options in the area for a lunch hour. Please somebody!!! Please open up a safe to eat, healthy food establishment for us working near 290/183/Cameron/35. My nutiritional health thanks you in advance.

I’m done with this place. I’ve been a customer for a few years, and while the food is pretty good(although not quite as healthy as one would expect from a deli, I mean, who doesn’t have low-fat mayo as an option in this day and age?), I’m sick of their inflexibility and nickel-and-dime you to death attitude. For example, not very long ago when I was there, they wanted to charge me full price for a cup of ice water… wtf? I have no problem paying for the styrofoam cup, in fact, I’m happy to do so, but I think it’s bull to make me pay more than 35 cents for tap water in a cup. I had forgotten about that and went back again only to be told that I couldn’t get a cup of water because the Health Department said they weren’t allowed to serve water in a cup. That’s really what they said. I didn’t want to get into it then and there, but there’s something really odd about that… either(a) they are flat-out lying so they can charge more for drinks, or(b) there really is something wrong with the water, however, this begs the question: what do they use to make iced tea or coffee or even soup? Either way, I fell like I’m being deceived and I don’t appreciate that as a customer so I’ll choose to take my business elsewhere from now on. It’s really not even so much about the money, but it’s the principle of the matter.

I love their sandwiches and the small, cute atmosphere of the place. The tea is also really good. The cons(hence the tres stars): –Wait is ALWAYSFOREVERLONG. Don’t go on your lunch break. –Expect a freak-out moment from the cashier if you ask for any chips besides plain ruffles with your sandwich. –They also get kind of offended if you ask for extra condiments on the sandwich, for example I asked for extra mayo and the cashier said, «well we already put lots of mayo on it, are you sure you want EVENMORE?!» I have had the sandwich before and I felt that it needed more mayo so I told her I wanted more mayo anyways. :) Apparently they deliver so I think I am going to try that next time!

First off, it took FOREVER to get our food when it wasn’t that crowded. The people that worked there looked like they were in a constant state of pain and were afraid to be talked to. On the other hand, the turkey sandwhich was good, and they did have a recycling bin… but they should really have more bread options for being a deli besides wheat.

I live near this place, and my husband and I have meant to go for a couple years, but never got around to it, and the one time we did make the effort on a Saturday, it was closed. Turns out it’s open on weekdays. Always with the ulterior motive to Unilocal(what? I’ll admit it), I suggested we grab some lunch on our way out of town last weekend. Anyway, we get there at like five minutes to noon. This is a nice, simple, sweet deli. Nothing fancy, nothing hip. If you’ve been to Mario’s deli at Mopac and Anderson, it reminds me of that place. I got a good veggie sandwich like my mama used to make, and a side of potato salad that was pretty good. My husband was happy with his meat-based sandwich, as well, and had a side of tortilla soup that he was impressed with. Pepsi products, and a lunch special that includes soup, sandwich and tea for $ 5.95. Not too shabby. At noon, tons of nearby businesspeople poured in for lunch, so they must be doing something right. If you’re in the neighborhood, check it out.
