Sometimes you just need a little 80s or 90s music in your life! Luckily in Austin we have Cedar Street Courtyard on W. 4th Street. It’s a small outdoor stage with indoor bars on each side. I happened to be there on a Saturday night unexpectedly and it was Ladies’ Night! The Spazmatics were playing they were rockin the courtyard! I sipped on several margaritas while I shook my booty about! Cedar Street Courtyard is a great place to listen to music and dance! How can you not be a fan of classic music, tasty drinks and dancing?! I think this place is definitely fun for a date night out with your boo or to just meet up with friends.

It was nice to have outdoor performance except it was windy and cold night. They had a few heat lamps but it wasn’t sufficient. Plus they had hot chocolate drink but it wasn’t warm enough. Perhaps this is a one off situation but it was a bit disappointing. Besides that the entertainment was good

Easily one of the most fun nights I’ve had in Austin! I showed up for a friend’s birthday and I was so happy that we caught the Spazmatics! The audience ranged from early 20s to mid 50s young and I loved it. Who doesn’t love a good cover band? These guys had me shakin’ it all night long and it was a blast. It does get pretty crowded and yes, it does get a little toasty since you’re elbow to elbow with the person next to you. I suggest you put on some deodorant and hope that the person next to you has done the same, and have an awesome night out singing along to some of the greatest classics!

I have been here many times over my almost 10 years in Austin. Mainly for the Spazmatics Wednesday night performances and also for a few private holiday parties. The outdoor/indoor concept is great — makes you feel comfortable and like you are just partying in someone’s backyard. Yes, there is sometimes a cover charge and drink prices seem pretty standard for downtown bars, but you can’t replace an evening of singing and dancing along to your favorite Spazmatics tunes. And, for the private events I have attended, the catering has been good. This place is one of the longer standing ones in this part of downtown and all I can say is there has to be a reason for that, so go judge for yourself!

Really cool venue. I’ve been here on several occasions and used to come and see Brent Gorrell and the 47 Indians years ago. Took my wife to see the Spazmatics on our anniversary(we love those guys). They had a private Dell party on the upper deck, so we couldn’t get up there, but, we still had a great time. Loved the private amber on tap. Bartenders and beer backs were attentive and fast. Door men and bouncers were cordial and efficient. Never much of a wait on a very crowded evening. Had a great time, we’ll be back.

Great place, efficient staff and nice atmosphere. I can always enjoy myself here and the friends I come with end up loving it. It’s a very cool terrace in the middle of downtime. Highly recommended by me :)

Awesome band playing. Bars are spacious and bartenders were great. I was tempted to give a star downgrade because of the 15/person cover though but the bartender made up a drink for my wife that was spot on so ill keep it at five.

Huge courtyard with live music all the time! Great place to come listen to some locals and grab a drink. Don’t come here hoping to mingle, be seen, or people watch, but if you’re in it for the music you will enjoy yourself!

This is a really awesome venue. I hopped to catch a good show on a Wednesday night and the place was completely packed and really rocking. They have reasonably priced drinks and the cover wasn’t too bad at $ 10. We happened to catch The Spazmatics here; they put on a fantastic show and easily held the whole room all night. Catch them here if you can, its a perfect venue for their act.

IMG_0312.MOV Above is the Austin Part Band-Thursday night at Cedar Street. So talented! I took my sister here for 3 nights and we had a blast! A Wonderful champagne list-Vueve! The crowd is a nice mix from 30’s up to 70’s age groups. Tips:Get here a little early especially on Wednesday night for the Spazmatics if you want a table in the courtyard. However if you want to be in a less crowded area then head upstairs and grab two chairs on the balcony to the right facing the stage. Best seats in the house however the restrooms are downstairs.

I had so much fun at Cedar Street Courtyard! There was a band on Sunday night that played a bunch of covers from the 80s and 90s — listening to them and watching people dance provided hours of entertainment. I had to dock them a star because of a service snafu which has since been resolved. The management team definitely cares about the satisfaction of their guests! I enjoyed myself(and my martinis!) and I will definitely be back!

Visit Cedar Street Courtyard if you want to hear FUN and GOOD music. We didn’t venture inside, but rather stayed in the courtyard, to listen and dance to the band playing — the Spazmatics. The band, an 80’s music cover band created a hugely FUN vibe. They played for about three hours, provided some comic relief and had the place dancing and singing. Overall feel of the night was a «life is great» time. Wish there were more places like this back home in South Florida.
The beer and cocktails we ordered were decently priced($ 4– $ 8) and there was a $ 10 cover per person.

Fun, great Monday night live music — covers by Phil and band. Nice chill courtyard. Only dancing we saw Monday was one very… ahem, expressive… woman. $ 6 glass of sycamore lane Cabernet Sauvignon was actually pretty good.

If you want fun, dancing, singing with the band, fair drinks and a good crowd, this is a good place. The Spazmatics play on Wednesday and bring the 80’s pop, new age and rock and please the crowd. The patio is welcoming and you can sit inside on either side of you prefer more quiet. There is a balcony and good viewing of the band. A mix of 20 – 40 year Olds with many visitors. Try the 4 Fireman beer.

Cedar street by day looks like a sleepy quiet courtyard nestled amongst some trees hidden between some downtown Austin buildings in the warehouse district. However, come on a Wednesday night, and the place is transformed. That’s because on Wednesday nights an 80’s cover band the Spazmatics play, and they are phenomenal. It was so crowded the first evening I came, that I was able to enjoy the end of their show from the sidewalk for free. The next time I came, my friends paid the $ 10 cover fee to fight our way to a rare patch of space, and managed to grab some drinks during a band break. The space is well thought out as there are bars located inside on either side of the courtyard, and also upstairs in the balcony area. They also do have some fans for the hotter evenings to keep some air moving amongst the hot crowded bodies inhabiting the small space. Once the Spazmatics start playing though, all thoughts of crowded sweaty bodies leaves your mind, and the crowd joins in unison to belt out popular 80’s tunes, and enjoy the entertaining hijinks of the band(which is actually vocally talented). I also love how the drummer has his own fan blowing his long hair all around.

Have been hearing good things about this venue since I arrived in Austin a few weeks back and last night I finally had the chance to check it out for myself… It was way better than I expected! Last night’s perfect weather, the awesome band who play there every Monday night(I’ve seen them at other venues and they are by far the best cover band — Phil’s voice is amazing!) plus the outdoor seating in that beautifully decorated courtyard… it was gorgeous! There is table service and the waitress was lovely and very attentive even tho she was on her own and it was quite busy! She did an awesome job keeping us all happy. I think this will be my new regular Monday night spot!

The only time I come here is to see The Spazmatics play on Wednesday nights. I love this place because it’s an outdoor place although it gets a little uncomfortable during the summer but there’s fans and that’s what cold beverages are for. Bartenders are nice. I’ve never had a problem there. Bouncers are nice also and they really keep an eye on the crowd to make sure everyone is having a good time and safe. They have a great upstairs area that can be rented out for private events. Sometimes it is open to the public and it’s cool to watch the show from up there. What else is there to say? Cedar Street Courtyard is a cool place to check out live music. It’s always a great time and there’s always some good people watching.

Cedar Street Courtyard(CSC) has been providing live music & good times for grown-ups on 4th Street for as long as I can remember. Yes, the full price cocktails can be expensive, and yes, you may pay a cover charge to get in when big name bands are playing. On the other hand, the price point keeps 20-something party animals who want to play chugging challenge games out of your space. Not a bad trade-off, IMHO. Did I forget to say, «Get off my lawn!»? What kind of music can you expect? Well, just about all kinds. Many recurring night shows are established throw-back cover bands for dance-party-good-times(Spazmatics, LC Rocks, Hip Hop Hooray, Memphis Train Review), but for the earlier evening slots, you may encounter laid-back local singer/songrwriters or an up & coming blues guitarist. See the monthly schedule here: During SXSW, CSC turns into one of the very best venues for seeing fantastic national and international acts up close & personal. For the past few years, Filter Magazine has hosted free day parties with lineups rivaling anything one might pay $ 200+ to see at ACL Fest. I’ve been less than 2 feet away from groups like Band of Skulls, Keane, Bastille, and Haim during these events. Get on Filter’s SXSW email list for notices about guest list sign-ups(typically in late February). In Spring 2014, CSC began hosting a cool Sunday Funday series from 3−7p with drink specials($ 1 mimosas, $ 3 bloodys, $ 4 ritas), limited free food, and no cover for an excellent live show. I attended the season opener with Roxy Roca(high energy soul with a full horns section) and my group of friends had a blast lounging on the upstairs deck, having the giant fans blow the humidity away, receiving fabulous service by Adrian, and getting the bird’s eye view of the musicians at work. For the first time visitor, here are some helpful tips: – Indoor bars can be found on both sides of the courtyard, and there’s an outdoor bar upstairs. If you start a tab at any of them, it’s available to you at all of them. – Bathrooms for him & her are at the back(northside) of both indoor spaces. – There are doors adjacent to the stage, as well as at the 4th Street entrance area of the courtyard, so no need to wade through the crowd to get inside if you happen to be at one end or the other.
