Based on my pick up order of Mongolian beef with shrimps this place gets a solid 3 stars. My dish was delicious. It was very mild but didn’t lack any flavor. It had plenty beef and about 5 shrimp which was more than I expected. When I ordered she said I’d only get 3 shrimp. I asked to sub fried rice she said it’d be 2.50 extra. No thanks! I’ll take white. It was 14.49! So if i wouldve gotten the fried rice it wouldve been $ 17?! I usually get the same thing at other places with my fried rice for under 11. I’ll give them a try for lunch one day cause $ 17 take out for one, no extras, isn’t my forte!

Wife and I stopped by last night after the movies. It had been about five years since we last ate there. It was very good. The hot and sour soup is above avg as is their Lomein.

Every time we go here, the service is excellent. Very sweet waitress. Maybe a little understaffed, but great food and service nonetheless. The restaurant is very pretty, very comfortable. Have eaten here for years and will definitely continue to.

I’ve been eating at China Café for years(longer than most of you have lived in ATX;) and they’re consistently great! The broccoli beef and chicken fried rice are my favorites. Occasionally I’ll have them deliver and the driver has always been fast and courteous, and my food still hot. Best in the area, in my opinion.

Not the best place to get Chinese food. I happened to be around the area and was craving Chinese, I saw this place so decided to stop by and try it out. I saw mixed reviews but mostly were positive so I gave it a shot. I have to say the food was not good. It honestly tastes like preheated food that’s been sitting there for a while. I got some soup that tasted terrible! It was cold and it tasted like flour(odd). I thought I had ordered cheese wontons and turns out they were some kind of meat wontons. I let the server know thinking he might of gotten my order wrong. Well turns out that’s all they had. That was a big disappointment. We got our food and like I said it was cold and not tasty at all. Will not be back

Great food and service is usually prompt and on point. Usually get the combination fried rice and it hasn’t failed me yet. The hot and sour soup is great too. Awesome that it comes with the order and isn’t extra.

Came here for lunch. Our server Yan was very sweet and attentive. I ordered shrimp with mixed vegetables and my husband had mala chicken. They’re both good(I didn’t eat the chicken but my husband said he liked it). The vegetables were fresh. Will be back :)

China Café, open here at least 15 years, provides consistent, very good Chinese food. We’ve been here twice in last 2 months, and since there is the discount theatre next door, it’s a nice place to enjoy a drink after the movie, too. Back to the food — some here say it is «pricey», however the portions are large(dinner entrée enough for 2), so it’s actually a bargain — at least dining in. And both times, our server has been excellent — very friendly young lady. The chicken and beef dishes have all been tender and well presented. Also, the atmosphere is nice, even though its’ in a strip center. It must have good«fung shui» or something, because it’s relaxing, too. Or, maybe I’ve just been lucky there haven’t been any loud babies there …

Just had a terrible experience at this ungrateful place. Ordered foot to go for my family($ 35) to be delivered and while still on the phone changed to pick up due to the time difference of 15 min pick-up 60 min deliver. When I get there they give me no receipt just ask to sign the copy. I ask for an itemized receipt and the counter help has a worried look on her face. Long story short they charge me $ 3 for a delivery charge in which I picked it up. The manger finally decides to come out 15 minutes later of arguing and says its just $ 3. Just $ 3? How about you mark all your dishes $ 3 off and see how you feel.

I would not recommend ordering your food for delivery here! We ordered dinner for our family and waited for an hour and a half to get our food! Btw we live literally 2 blocks away. The food when we got it was luke warm. The food is very mediocre Didn’t like the beef n broccoli it had a very fishy taste to it and the the Kung Pao chicken it had a very spongy soggy like consistency !! Pretty disappointed to say the least. We love Chinese food but won’t be going back here again!

Should be a minus 5 stars. Placed an order for delivery and told them I would need change for 100. They say no problem we’ll send the proper change. Guy shows up late with out even close to the correct amount of change. He says he will call to see what can be done. That only applies if you want to pay with a credit or debit card. Then stands there dumbfounded when I handed him the food back. I had to ask for my money back. Guess he thought I would just give him $ 30+ tip. Called them back to discuss the issue and get an «oh well» from the same idiot girl who took the order. Will never go there and will let everyone I know not to order from or go there!!!

I will never order delivery from this place again. I was quoted 45 min for delivery and my food didn’t arrive for 11⁄2 hours. The manager had no explanation and was unwilling to refund me my money. When the food was delivered– it was cold and tasteless. Definitely needed some salt, but they failed to deliver that as well. Want good food? Don’t order from this place!

This used to be one of my favorite Chinese restaurants and I used to come here often. Years have passed since then. What a difference. So…me being the picky food weirdo that I am, used to come here and order a veggie dish. It was my own special concoction with my favorite veggies. I don’t even know how I started ordering it, but I did. And it was delicious. And the servers knew me and didn’t think I was a weirdo. Or maybe they did and just didn’t let on that they did. Who knows. I’d feel like a complete idiot trying to order that now. But I miss it. Fast forward five or so years. Yikes. Our server was not so great. I asked about a menu item and she couldn’t really answer the question. Ummm… ok. So, I ended up ordering the safe thing — lemon chicken. My date ordered soup and an entrée. While we were waiting, I decided I wanted hot tea. Did our server come back to check on us? Nope. So I waited… and waited… Then she brings our entrees. Did she bring the soup? Nope. Her response was something like«oh I didn’t ring that up, do you want it?» Hmmm… I guess the fact that she didn’t ring it up has something to do with wanting the soup or not. Bizarre. I had noticed she did this with several other tables before our food came. Weird. He did ask her for my hot tea at that point, which she brought and it was good. So…the food was pretty good. The chicken was cooked just how I like it, but I really was in the mood for veggies, not chicken. Had she been able to answer my questions, I probably would have ended up with what I really wanted. Would I come back here? Maybe, but probably not. The service was pretty bad. The food was good, but the service is probably a deal killer and there are so many good restaurants in the area. Bummer… because this was one of my fav places a long time ago. Three stars because the food is still pretty good.

Great food but expensive and a $ 3.50 delivery fee no matter how much you spend. We ordered beef and broccoli and orange chicken both with steamed rice(one rice was missing but we are waiting for the delivery driver to bring it back to us.) And a kids lo mein. And our total was $ 31.00 without tip for to entrees and a kids meal. It was delivered with in 45 minutes on a Sunday evening at peak dinner time. Overall satisfied with the meal except it’s pricy, I guess you pay for what you get!

We decided to order take out for the evening and China Café was the closest place we could find to our house. We got the Ma La chicken and the beef with snow peas. The food was ready when we went to pick up and it was hot — they gave us lots of sauces and white rice comes with the dishes so that was nice. The portions were also generous which makes for good leftovers! I liked that both dishes came with a variety of veggies. The beef with snow peas came with more than just snow peas — it came with baby corn and zucchini squash. There wasn’t too much flavor or umph to the dish but it came with a lot of gravy that went with the rice well and the beef was pretty good. The Ma La chicken was very well tenderized to the point that it tasted kind of gooey. I know that’s what a lot of Chinese places do, but it’s not what I prefer. This dish also came with snow peas and carrots and had a spicy which added lots of flavor to the dish. Overall this was a decent place to get take out, the meat was what bumped down my rating. Try it for yourself, though, I’d be interested to try some of their other dishes in the future!

So in an effort to appease an avid Unilocaler and to also counterbalance a post he made earlier today, I would like to introduce you to China Café… And just so we are clear, this is China Café on Lakeline NOT the one«by Phoenix»… For me, this is by far the best Chinese restaurant located in north Austin. And although I do not possess the literary talent that my enthusiast foodie friend does, I am going to give this review my best shot… China Café has been serving authentic, quality Chinese food in north Austin for the last 23 years. Ming has been running this culinary masterpiece since it’s conception and still greets every customer with a smile & witty joke. Truth be told, I’m guessing he started working there when he was 10 because he definitely doesn’t look old enough to have been around that long… Maybe it’s the food, haha… Yes, the food, let me get to the good part… All ingredients are picked up daily and locally. All sauces are made fresh DAILY. Nothing is reused. Dishes with chicken, like the ever-so-popular general tso’s, are made with large chunks of white meat chicken that you can actually see(and yes, you know what I mean) No mystery meat here. Veggies are abundant and not just green onions or carrots. They load up on bamboo shoots, water chestnuts, baby corn, mushrooms… you get the idea… In any dish they offer. Prices are super reasonable and portions are abundant. The crab puffs(their take on crab Rangoon) are simply to die for & try the house special soup, it’s incredible and a definite meal in itself… Well I hope this brief review did both China Café & my elite Unilocaler some justice… If not, fear your next fortune Scott T! ;)

One person in our party has to have Gluten Free. We went here because of that. She was assured that her order was gluten free. Guess what, because of later distress, it was not. Last time.
