Institutionalized RIP-​OFF! Nice showroom but notice there are no labeled prices. They’ll only sell to you via your contractor, who is then encouraged to jack the price. 1) Expect to pay three times the price of Home Depot, 2) Dal-​Tile added tiles we couldn’t use. 3) a 90 day return policy, 25% restocking fee, and no return of special ordered tiles. I suggest you visit the showroom and then buy the same tile at Home Depot for ¹⁄₃ the price, special order tiles online.

I visited DalTile this morning and it was a great experience, in far contrast to the reviewers before me. They’re only open 8−4pm, M-​F and are only a showroom to the general public. I think they sell to contractors/​tradespeople.
Anyway, I walked in and the lone representative seem to be helping customers as quickly as possible, I appeared to be #3 in line. I was on a mission to look find a specific tile, which wasn’t very difficult as everything was nicely laid out. Turns out the lone employee was named Shannon, a designer, who helped me pick some coordinating floor tile and even gave me some samples to take home and compare. Any samples they didn’t have in stores could be shipped to you at no charge from their Buda warehouse the next day (EDIT: week. ground shipping)! How awesome is that?!

Their customer service is terrible. I haven’t even set foot in their store but I placed an order over the phone. Made an order on a Friday, they said it’s in. Yeah it wasn’t so they ordered additional pieces. Said it’d be in Monday, nope Tuesday. Every time I call they act like they could possibly die from kindness. Hopefully they have great products since the tile is going in my kitchen but when it comes to service they’re pretty suck.

I called them up asking if they had any grey slate floor tile. The guy sounded very disinterested and told me they have way too many tile and there is no way for him to know. He said I should go look at their website. I did and they didn’t have anything close but it wasn’t like there was a huge selection of slate. The fact he had no interest in finding out for me fits right in line with a post in the talk section of Unilocal talking about their poor customer service. In addition I’ve called 3 other places who were able to easily check for me and now I’m going to go to them and one will get my business and possibly for some other tile as well. Daltile might want to consider figuring out how those other tile shops can know what tile they have in stock and do that. It seems like basic customer service.

Another favorite tile showroom that really showcases their products well. I like using Dal-​Tile because they are based in Dallas, Texas. Yeah, shop local. If you are working with a contractor, go here first. I think they have more tile products than other showrooms. Sales associates only quote the «list» price which means «retail». A contractor will probably offer you a discount so keep that in mind when shopping.
Several years ago, an end user had concerns about a tile I recommended. It was already installed and there were cleaning problems. A Dal-​Tile representative attended a meeting to help her resolve the problem. It turned out the contractor did not use a water barrier thus, lime was creeping up into the grout causing discoloration. I liked the fact the company helped out on the issue.
