Closed. Locks on doors were changed for not paying rent. Apparently they served good barbecue because there’s a homeless guy yelling at the door!

5 stars for the staff – they were super informative, helpful, and off the charts friendly. 4 stars for the food – it hit the spot for my bbq craving that day. The beans are off the chain.

Sorry to say that after several visits in the last year, that I cannot give dickeys a better overall review. It’s not that the food is bad, because it’s actually very good quality. It’s the inconsistency, which is probably due to the high turnover in employees I’ve noticed at this location. I always get take out. The first few times I went there, it was awesome. It was the same meat cutter in the store. He was great and obviously well experienced. But he left, and everything has gone downhill since. For example, one time, they forgot to include my onions, pickles and roll with my meal. Another time, whoever was slicing just did a horrendous job, not only was the meat sliced badly(uneven and too thick for brisket) but half the meat was pure FAT. In other words inedible. However, my dog appreciated it wholeheartedly. I have a couple more examples of poor service, but I won’t. Even though they suck at their jobs, they are also always very nice. Hence the three stars. The end.

Not a great experience… again. Long story short, I tore apart my biscuit to make a pulled pork sandwich and found something inside it. I couldn’t say exactly what it was, but it was dark, ovular, soft, and embedded in the biscuit. I’ll let you make your own opinions, but I’m sure you have an idea what it could’ve been. The worker there was really slow and didn’t seem to care that there was something baked into the biscuit. He just replaced it without offering any apology and a shrug. There’s just too many cons for me to give them a 4th chance. The pulled pork was cold, the green beans were WAY salty, there’s a big lack of service at dinner time, and it’s way too expensive for what it is. It has so much potential, but the execution is off, and I’m totally turned off by what I found in that roll. Also, the other 3 times I’ve come in for dinner they seem put off that people are in there and I always feel rushed to get out of there so they can close early. They even go so far as to ask if you want ice cream(while you’re in the middle of your meal) so they can break down the machine. Ugh. Whatever, I should never have strayed from the loyalty of Rudy’s and Salt Lick.

Austin BBQ scene is pretentious when its good, but you have to wait in Disney-length lines sometimes only to discover they’re out of brisket. Not so here. The meat is prepared to the standards of more pretentious venues but no hipster dress code required. I appreciate the free parking in the building’s garage. The staff is awesome! The only problem is the hard surfaces and loud equipment noises makes it difficult to hear the staff clearly. Dickey’s is a good mix of quality and selection in a family-friendly environment.

Man, I don’t know what some of these people are talking about. Hipsters, maybe? «I live in Texas so I am required to give fewer stars for all BBQ places»? Forget it! Dickey’s isn’t fancy, but it doesn’t pretend to be. For ten bucks you get a mountain of meat and sides, which taste great. Personally I love their ham, and the pulled pork is awesome. Their spicy sauce is a fantastic complement. It’s within walking distance from my place, and so far has been consistently good for me when we just don’t feel like cooking. Plus the guy usually working the counter is real friendly, professional, and fast. Really, what more do you want? Cheap, fast, good barbeque with a smile.

It’s not that it’s bad bbq, but in Austin Texas, there are many more better choices. I had the chicken and sausage plate with bbq beans and creamy potato salad. The chicken was pretty good, sliced and tender but the polish sausage wasn’t to my liking. Also the dill potato salad was kind of a creamy mess and I didn’t think it had much taste to it. I ate about 1⁄3 of it and didn’t want to finish the rest. Same with the beans, they tasted like plain beans, nothing special, and I left most of those too. Service was nice and friendly, place was pretty slow for lunch. Clean, organized and looks like a nice restaurant for the area. I have to admit, I left too much on my plate and was hungry when I left. Not a good thing in my books.
Dickey’s is exactly what it looks like — commercialized, fast-foodish BBQ. In a city like Austin, in a state like Texas it’s not likely to be your first choice for BBQ. It’s mine because it’s within walking distance of my place and I don’t care for The Pit, which is also walking distance. I would agree with other reviewers that indicate they might be a little pricey, that certainly can be the case. They do offer deals throughout the week, which can help out with the cost aspect. That said, it’s not the worst BBQ I’ve ever had. Dickey’s does have a few good things going for them. First, they have had great customer service from the day they opened. You can go in when it’s busy and there’s one, maybe two, employees and they always have a smile and are patient with customer questions. They have ham and pulled pork, two of my favorite things to eat. These are also items not always found at BBQ places. You can give me a choice between Salt Lick and Dickey’s and, depending on my mood, I might chose Dickey’s because they have ham. They also have sweet tea, another favorite. If I can’t have sweet tea from Thundercloud, then I want it from Dickey’s. They have quite a few sides so there’s something for everyone — I particularly like the Casaer salad. It’s also nice to see something leafy and green on a BBQ menu. More than one sauce option is also a great idea! So, if you just want BBQ and want it quickly, then Dickey’s is a solid choice.
