DJ Mike

This review is long overdue, so I apologize greatly to you DJ Mike Cantu.
If you’re looking for a DJ who is not only a consummate professional, but also personable, friendly, and flexible, DJ Mike is that DJ! Our work with him was a solid work of five months of planning, from our home in Oakland, CA, to his back in Austin, TX, where we were planning to have our wedding and reception…
Here is our story… and we’re sticking to it!
My then-​fiancée (now wife) and I had been planning our wedding in Austin for a period of a year and a half. Some of the major considerations in looking for a DJ was not only value, but BANG for the buck. Our friends helped us with a few good leads, but some of their rates were plain outrageous and almost out-​of-​reach for our budget… surely, these vendors’ reviews certainly matched up to their reputation, but we weren’t exactly 100% on any of them.
Now, to be fair, this wedding was going to require a solid, mélange of music, catering to the diversity of the people involved… my family, Filipinos and Filipino-​Americans hailing from all over the West Coast, from San Diego, to Los Angeles, to Oakland/​San Francisco Bay Area, and all the way up to Seattle, WA… HUGE on disco, 70s dance music, hip-​hop, etcetera… My fiancée’s family hailed from The Rio Grande Valley, 5^th Generation Tejanos… on top of the taste of music they shared with my fam, was their love for Tejano, Cumbia, Country (oh that down home Country!), y mas!
Basically, we were looking for a DJ who could play all that, but also be somebody that our families could collectively dig…
It wasn’t until my fiancée found DJ Mike on the Unilocal,that our attention and focus narrowed. We contacted him immediately and found that he was extremely friendly, and it helped that he hailed from the Rio Grande Valley as well! He was very passionate about his love of music and was very flexible about staying in contact through phone and email between our two and only trips to Austin from California, on Spring Break, and just weeks before the wedding.
DJ Mike was very patient and understanding through the whole process, and his wife was also helpful in helping my fiancée and I plan our event down to the final moments before showtime.
It was on that fateful day, July 20^th, 2013, where my fiancée and I finally tied the knot, and made it known to our family and the world, that from The Grand Ballroom, 1900 University Avenue, at the AT&T Executive Education and Conference Center of my wife’s alma mater, The University of Texas at Austin, we, John and Natalia Nepomuceno, were going to OWN THE NIGHT.
DJ Mike did an impeccable job getting The Wedding Party ready, as well as managing the Party (which was AMAZING)! The light show he provided in the venue really worked well, and the dance floor was packed with the diversity of our families and friends… from all over the country! The CALI vs. TEXAS situation worked well as DJ Mike played virtually EVERY important song and type of music we wanted, and dance battles occurred with uncanny regularity. His roots from the Rio Grande Valley and engaging emceeing helped make my wife’s family comfortable and feel «right at home» in the middle of the ATX, while my family showed some good old Filipino Barrio-Fiesta’in’ with their new Mexican/​Tejano family members on the dance floor, singing their praises of the DJ and the music set! The Man played everything, from «CALIFORNIA LOVE» to «TEXAS FIGHT!» Ridiculous and amazing at the same damn time!
My wife and I are so happy, blessed, and honored to have had such a GREAT person man the 1s and 2s, the whole night over, and we wouldn’t change this decision for the world!

For you folks looking for a DJ in the ATX… look no further. DJ MIKE CANTU IS THE TRUTH!

Mike was our DJ for our wedding in February, and it was a BLAST! He really got the party going and kept it going. Even our 80 year old grandma was dancing it up.
