Fitting that my 200^th Unilocal review involves a relic from the past – my love of SAABs.
Paul Dolmetsch has been working on my SAAB on and off for almost 5 years, and more often since SAAB went away and my dealer, Roger Beasley began pushing away from their SAAB legacy customers. I have had a Obsidian Black 1987 SAAB 900 3-​door hatchback (which gave up its life for me, airbags and all in a 5-​car pileup on the Long Island Expressway), replaced immediately by a Rose Quartz 1990 900SE Turbo, later by an Imola Red 1995 9 – 3 Convertible I picked up at the factory in Trollhattan, Sweden and my latest, a 2005 9 – 3 Convertible that just hit 108,000 miles with nary a hitch.
Latest? Paul put in a new battery (Texas heat kills), new wipers & washer nozzles (ditto) replaced the badly designed aluminum vacuum pump which tends to leak oil (and has slowly I guess, starting about 3 years ago), did an oil and filter change, A/​C refrigerant replacement and left me with a warning about my coolant reserve tank which needs replacing ASAP and is on order.
All done fast and at a price below my 10-​year old car «pain threshold.» I love my SAAB Convertible and my SAAB mechanic. Formerly of Bennington VT, Paul Dolmetsch Motors is my Austin Puddy. He loves and lives SAABs and he is an honest mechanic – all too rare these days.

I have been going to Paul with my car for the past year (since I moved to Austin). I can say with all confidence that he is the best mechanic I have ever dealt with. He’s honest, trustworthy, and probably loves your Saab more than you do. I know he doesn’t claim this page, nor will he see this, but I will as long as I’m driving give this good sir my money.

Needing auto repairs is always a disruptive process, but interacting with Paul will not only take away some of the sting; he’ll bring some joy to the experience.

Fantastic service! I mean that literally, many’s the time I’ve fantasized of finding a great mechanic who enjoys his vocation and doesn’t rake me over the coals in pursuit thereof. I can’t say enough about Paul, his very reasonable price and great care he took of my ’08 9 – 3. If you’re going anywhere else to service your Swedish sweetheart you’re being taken advantage of (I’m looking at you, Swedish Auto Service).

I will be echoing what others have already written regarding Paul’s shop. After re-​relocating to Austin, I needed someone I could trust to look at my ’84 Saab 900i.
Paul was so excited and even grateful for the opportunity to work on my car. What a breath of fresh air! This guy is the real deal and he knows Saabs better than most. He did excellent work, going above and beyond to spruce my car up, at a very reasonable price.
I feel very fortunate to have found Paul on Unilocal and will be happily returning when my Saab needs attention. I would highly recommend his shop to any Saab owner in the area.

Paul is awesome.
After looking online at problems similar to my Saab, it was clear it was going to cost me over $ 1000 at a dealership.
Fortunately, I found Paul. He had my car running again in hours and charged a minimal fee.
He is also incredibly friendly and great to talk to about anything concerning Saabs.

if you are in austin (or really anywhere within a reasonable drive of austin) and you own a saab, you should get to know paul dolmetsch at dolmetsch motors. paul provides outstanding saab service at very reasonable prices. he is knowledgeable and honest and absolutely passionate about saabs. it’s awesome to meet someone who so obviously loves what he does.
the care and attention he gives every saab that comes to his shop is truly impressive. i have never been very comfortable with auto mechanics — mostly because my ignorance in this area leaves me at their mercy. there are plenty who would take advantage of such a situation. paul is not one of them. he will explain and demonstrate and show you as much about your saab, in as much detail, as you care to know. he will give you the full, animated story on any of the saabs sitting at his business in various stages of repair and rebirth as if he is telling you the greatest tale ever told. he has gone the extra mile every time we’ve brought our saab to him, often doing some extra work just because he noticed something while he was «in there» (for which he does not charge us).
this man knows saabs. this man loves saabs. i have a feeling he would marry one if he could.
