Disclaimer: Totally biased review.
Esquina is a hidden gem in Austin Texas. A community center, dance school, language school, art center and cultural center. It is wonderfully diverse and run by gifted, intelligent and cultured people. They are of Argentinian background, I think oneof the owners came here as a child though. She is charming, Ms. Monica is such a gifted community organizer, dance instructor and facilitator.
Everyone is welcome, it is wonderfully diverse and I always have a great time. There are activities for children, teens and seniors too. We are lucky to have Monica and her partner and to have Esquina. I am so lucky and grateful to have found it.

I went here with a group of friends to celebrate a special occasion. One of my friends had been before and wanted to return. I coordinated with a super friendly lady via e-​mail to attend a milonga, which Esquina Tango holds each month. It is essentially an evening of tango. It sounded awesome, but we left a bit disappointed. Esquina Tango is located inside a home. It is charming, but at the same time, it is uncomfortable to use the restrooms, etc. The venue was full of seasoned dancers who all knew each other and who were not too pleased to see outsiders. We were asked twice if we had mistakenly come to the event, etc. It just wasn’t a very welcoming environment overall. But it was fun to watch others dance, and although I couldn’t quite tell who worked there, the lady selling entry tickets was very nice. I think as long as you know what to expect, it would be a very enjoyable time. FYI, it’s BYOB.

It’s really hard not to like this place. I first came here with a girl I was dating. She had been volunteering here for months and getting free dance lessons in exchange. I spent some time with Gustavo and Monica and found them both to be remarkably friendly and talented. The place is nice and lesson packages allows you to try out a variety of dances cheaply. They also have a ton of social events such as movie nights and dances open to the public.
New Year’s Eve was a nice alternative to Sixth Street nearby. It just feels like a small, warm, friendly family-​run place. It’s just a good place to hangout and enjoy good company.

I came here for Latin movie night. Everyone was social and nice. I really appreciate being able to mingle and speak Spanish with others. To my fellow Latinos, come on over!

Ghetto dance club in a converted house that charges a $ 7 cover with no bar and hardly any place to sit with capacity for maybe 100 at most. Poor sound quality and not the best bands

This place is wonderful and so are the people who run it! They are passionate and have a true desire to inspire and teach people the art of tango. You not only get to dance, but you get invited into the rich culture of it all too!
Definitely worth it! My son has been taking their free youth samba classes and he loves it so much! If you’re able to donate, please do so that this business can continue to do what it does for many more years to come!

Fun, fun and fun.
Great neighborhood find, we drive in from PFL to enjoy the directions that the instructors share with their classes.
The vibe of the classes are very low key and relaxed, and everyone is given a welcomed feeling.
Have not been here for any dances or socials ‘yet’ but will make the time for it in the New Year.

Disclaimer: What follows is a totally biased review.
I first went to Esquina in 2009 to learn how to dance tango. I liked that the studio was close to my home, that the prices were reasonable, and that the instructors were very knowledgeable and helpful.
In the process, Esquina changed my life.
Other Unilocal reviewers have mentioned the great prices, the money-​is-​not-​what-​matters attitude, the friendly people, the diversity of cultural offerings but I would like to share with you how Esquina has affected my life:
— I learned how to dance tango with Monica and Gustavo and met many wonderful people.
— I became part of a large and diverse community that gets together because of music and dance, but stays together because of Esquina, Monica and Gustavo.
— I learned about Brazilian music and dance from Rebekah, and I began a journey in Brazilian culture and percussion that has become my passion.
— And lastly, but most importantly, I met a beautiful Argentinian girl at Esquina, a girl that soon became my wife.
I could go on and on. But I hope you got my point: Try Esquina. It may change your life.

Nervous going in to this place considering it was my first time but came out extremely satisfied. David and Melissa made the salsa class extremely fun and were able to teach the class tons of moves. Will be going back at least once a week from here on out.

This place is amazing! I am a tad bit partial because I teach the Salsa Aerobics class, but there are plenty of other things to take. I also take the Yoga classes, the Samba class after my Salsa Aerobics class and Capoiera after my other Salsa Aerobics class. I suggest checking this place out when you have time. I also teach the Latin Youth classes as well. There is something for everyone and it’s a great price for everyone as well. Come and check us out a La Esquina!

Always a great place and honestly my favorite place for culture in Austin. The people are great, the music is always captivating, the location is accessible, and the price is just right!
BYOB and complimentary coffee and water for the guests. Parking is free and plentiful. Great place to go for a date, to meet future dates, and enjoy some intl music.

I knew about this place and the lessons offered, but had no idea there were open nights with bands and dancing!
We went on a Friday when Seu Jacinto was playing. The school hosts dance lessons earlier in the evening, but we missed those, arriving just in time for Seu Jacinto to start their second set, around 11pm. It was $ 8 at the door (cash) and BYOB. Perfect!
I was a little nervous that I would be lost without the dance lessons, but that was not the case at all. It was a free-​for-​all dance party, and one of the most multicultural experiences I’ve had in Austin. It was the closest to the true, soulful feel of a South American night. The room was crowded and hot, we danced and sweated until the band stopped at 1am, we were completely exhausted. A great time!

Wow, we had a blast at this place. Went for the first time to see a band that plays old school Cuban music and danced our hearts out. The vibe is so much friendlier than other places in town (i.e., Copa). We can’t wait to go back. Be sure to BYOB. They supply the cups, and water, too.

I’m shocked to see only one review on this great little place. You can come here and get your groove on and learn to salsa, samba, tango, belly dance — and get this, brazillian street dance! (If only I my awkward body movements could flow like that.) But my favorite thing about this place is they have the best yoga on the east side. I make it on an irregular basis, and pay by donation. They also have a monthly fee for those that choose to become members. My favorite class is yoga-​tini on Fridays. A great way to start the weekend is with some fun, light-​hearted yoga and then drinks with yoga friends. Everyone that teaches the class is great, and the class is fun so we get to know each other. Special events are scheduled to promote Argentine music and Brazillian dance, as well as «Noche de Pelicula» — Spanish films with English subtitles. So much to do at this place, you just have to check it out!
