Expert Lee’s Custom Tailors

Very solid work done here. Had them tailor a seersucker suit and a pair of jeans along with altering a few pairs of shorts.
Definitely the best work I’ve had done in Austin thus far. Prices are reasonable. Communication is lacking given that I had to call to see if my clothes were done, but that’s my only complaint. Would use them again.

I’ve been twice between 8:15 and 8:30 and they have not been open yet. Their posted hours are from 8 – 6 Mon-​Fri. Could I go back in the day? Sure, but parkjng’s a nightmare and it’s hard to get away from work during the day.
One time is excusable, but twice; I’m hesitant to go back. Despite that they do very good tailoring, so they can keep 2 stars.

I felt particularly compelled to write this after picking up my snowboard pants today. That’s right. These ain’t no wool slacks (though Lee’s has done great with suits and pants I’ve had altered there before). I brought them a pair of hard core snowboard pants with multiple insulated layers and all manner of snaps, zippers, and clips. I’ve had the pants a couple of years, but they’ve always been way too long. So I brought them to Lee’s to see if there was anything to be done.
They scratched their heads for a few minutes as I described that I needed the legs shorter, but that it wasn’t just a cut-​and-​hem. I needed them to retain the zipper and button on the bottom of the leg, in addition to the elastic band and snap at the bottom of the inner lining. In other words, I needed it to fit over my boots and bindings and still keep the snow out when they were finished. We all agreed it would be a tough job. It was a thick canvas material + thin plastic material, heavy duty seams, and little margin for error. They discussed the work to be done and gave me a very reasonable quote.
«If it takes more time than you thought once you get in there and take it apart, I’m ok paying a little more,» I told them on my way out.
Well, I picked up my altered pants today, and I can tell you they worked some magic. The result is exactly what I’d hoped for. They made the legs shorter without sacrificing any of the fancy accoutrement. They fit great, they were finished on time, and the final bill came in below the estimate. High fives all around.
If only these badass pants would make me a decent snowboarder. No chance of that, I’m afraid. But at least I’ll be ridiculed only for the outrageous pattern on my pants, and not the fact that they’re folded in half because I don’t know how to shop.

Went to them with a emergency hem and they did 3 jeans for me with factory hem in an hour for half of what the store that I bought them in wanted. For a downtown business they are extremely reasonable and very accommodating.

I’ve used Lee’s several times due to their proximity to my office downtown. Their prices are competitive, and often cheaper than Ace, plus they do a clean, professional job and I like supporting a local business. However, I should caution that they do have a major problem with timeliness. Their estimates for jobs as simple as a pant hem can be as long as 7 – 8 days, twice as long as other local tailors.
Today, I had an unfortunate experience of coming back after 7 days to discover that not only was the job not completed, but aside from initial measuring, had yet to be even started. Worse than that, they had apparently separated my order, not realizing that they had 4 pairs of pants, not 2. After a lot of apologizing, they swore the job would be completed by end of day. When I came back at 6, the job was only half done.
Too their credit, the young man who worked there offered to complete the job himself that evening and hand deliver them to my house, but I told them I’d rather they do the job right than have them rush it after starting so late.
Overall, they do a solid job, at decent prices, but even with a longer than average turnaround time, they have problems with deadlines.

Very expensive for the lack of quality in the work they do. I took 3 suits to be fitted and ended up spending over $ 300 dollars getting my suits ruined. It’s also kind of impossible to communicate with them. The lady just looks at you and doesn’t answer.

After searching for a place to hem pants (no joke, I went to two places in a row that wouldn’t measure me — what?!?), I found this place on Unilocal.They did a very good job, but I am giving them a so-​so review for three reasons:
1. $ 15 for a hem? Come on. Cut and sew. This is Austin, not New York.
2. It took almost a week for the pants to be ready. Luckily I was flexible, but I imagine it would be a pain if you needed something sooner.
3. The location is awful if you’re driving. Parking is impossible.
They are super nice, but I will think twice about buying any pants that need a hem if I need to spend $ 15 on them. Eek!

Nothing but a great experience here. Small store with low overhead means good prices, especially for downtown. They worked with me when i hemmed 6 pairs of pants for a great deal. excellent quality, they even matched the thread color and thickness when i had a pair of designer jeans taken in at the hips.

Having only taken pants and suits to Expert Lee’s for the longest while, I finally took in a dress I bought to wear to a wedding. It was too loose through the ribcage to the top of the hips, and they took it in for me. It fits like a GLOVE and was ready as expected. It was also very reasonable, about $ 20 with a one-​week wait time (they charge more for a rush). I feel like I’ve really run the gamut now in terms of work done here, and I would recommend them for nearly everything (note: I’ve yet to see a wedding gown in there so one has to assume that’s not their specialty; for that I’d recommend Lupee High Fashion Dress Maker).

Was looking for somewhere a bit less expensive than Ace Tailors to alter a bridesmaids dress. They did a good job (the woman and her husband are very good tailors). My complaint is that she told me it would be ready in a week and wrote that date on my ticket. I came back on that date and she said my dress wasn’t ready, there was a problem with the hem and I needed to try it on again. That is fine– I just would have appreciated a phone call before I made the special trip downtown. I asked her why she didn’t call me and she said «she just found out.» I came back again the following day and it was ready and fits well.
Parking can be difficult and you have to feed the meters.

Lee’s Tailor came highly recommended to me by friends in Austin. I took a bridesmaids dress to them for alterations and they could not have been more fantastic!
I was really, really, in a bind because I live overseas and arrived in Austin with just about a week until the wedding, for which I would have to drive to Houston. And I was very concerned because should the garment be returned and not fit, I would be in trouble as there would not be enough time left to fix it.
Lee’s had the garment ready at the time promised, and it gave vision to the saying «fits like a glove». As the dress was slightly too small to start with, so she let out every single seam to make it the proper size and fit. But it was impossible to tell! Brilliant work, astounding fit, big hugs to Lee’s!
(The total was just under $ 40, entirely worth it as it was a lot of work, a job well done, and I didn’t have to worry about it anymore.)

I recently dropped off a bridesmaid dress with only 3 days before the wedding (not my fault). I was pleasantly surprised when she called me the following day for pick up. The tailoring job (taking in the sides) was perfect, and I definitely plan on returning in the future!

Second time around had a bad experience. She didn’t quite do what I’d asked, even though I felt I’d been pretty clear. Anyway, had to take the pants to another tailor, who, upon opening them up again, showed me the … well, I have to be honest here… rather lousy job they did at Expert Lee’s. I was disappointed to find that she’d cut corners. This might not be everyone’s experience, but it was mine, and I thought I’d update my review.

I’ve been going to another more advertised tailor in town for my alterations and was finally fed up with the outrageous prices I was getting charged for hems. A friend mentioned Lee’s b/​c it was around the corner from her office and she had some alterations done there. I took in 2 dresses, one required more work than just the hem but also shortening the shoulders to fit better. She completed the work on time, the dresses looked and fit great and the price was half of what I would have been charged at the previous place that did my alterations.

I’ve been to Lee’s four times and the first two times were good, but the last two times have been bad enough for me to swear off going to it, even though it’s right around the corner from my office.
The biggest blow was last Saturday. I took in a dress to get a new zipper on Wednesday and requested that it be done by Saturday for a wedding I had that same night and she said she would charge me more for a rush order which is fine. I asked to make sure they were open on Saturday and she said yes. She didn’t tell me that they close 4 hours earlier than they do on weekdays. I showed up at 3pm and no one was there. I had to scramble to find a new dress and when I picked the dress up on Monday after the event I got no apology from them for not telling me they have different Saturday hours. She still charged me the rush fee.
When I showed up Saturday I noticed that there were no business hours on the door and I never got a phone call telling me my garment was done. I know I could have been more responsible and asked for Saturday hours, but honestly I think decent customer service should be letting people know if your schedule changes only one day of the week.
There’s a huge language barrier at this place and I’ve seen other customers try to complain to her, but she just stares at them because I don’t think she can understand. So instead of arguing with the lady I just paid full price and decided to never go back.

After being dissatisfied with one of the larger tailor shops in town — both in quality and price — I was turned on by a friend to Lee’s. This shop is owned by an older couple that truly have been trained in the art of tailoring.
Need your suit taken in or let out after a year of being in the closet. Here it’s done right the first time and looks as good as it did on you when you brought it home from the store.
Jean hems are done in the style that make it look like the off the rack cuff you had when you bought it. And then six months later, come back and they will patch up those same warn out jeans that you have since put a hole in.
Parking is fine if you grab a fifteen minute, customer service spot right in front of the shop on Brazos. They try to finish the work when promised, but this is not a factory shop and they can get a bit overwhelmed when they have too many garments in the queue.

This is my first review just because this place did not live up to my (pretty basic) expectations at all. I had a zipper to replace on my dress — they told me it would be done in a week. When I came back with my ticket on the agreed day, the dress was not done or even touched. She told me to come by in the afternoon — that same afternoon, the dress was not touched either. By the next day they had finished the job, without a discount for being late. That night when I tried to zip up the dress — the zipper would not work. So much for a tailor close to work.
