Everything was mediocre when I dined here. I went for happy hour with a friend after hearing such great things about this place. There were a lot of options for appetizers, and they were very cheap at the happy hour price. However, they were all forgettable. I tried the chips and salsa, blue cheese potato chips, and french fries. We also tried their various frozen alcoholic drinks. I truly could not tell the difference between anything that we tried. It all had the same bland taste. No matter how cheap it is, I still would like to have some flavor. The one plus was that the outside seating area was incredibly large. It was a great place to be dining to enjoy the beautiful spring weather. I just wish the food would have matched the scenery.

I’m so excited to be back at Freddies on my Lonestar Roundup adventure. Two year ago I was here for a quick lunch before our flight and Last year I came with a large group for breakfast and now I find myself back here as a party of 1. I love this place. The food is excellent and champagne in the morning never harmed anyone. Last year I ordered Shit on a Shingle and damn it was good shit! They start you out with a home baked warm blueberry muffin with butter. It’s like going to a Mexican food restaurant and getting chips and salsa. It’s a great warm up to your day should you plan on participating in the local activities. Inside, outside, doesn’t matter where you sit, there’s stuff to keep your eyes busy and mind amused. Love it here!

Awe shucks. Yesterday, I heard you were gonna be closing, later this month. Total frowny face to that news. I’m gonna miss hanging out with friends, family and the dog on your back patio, drinking super delish, cheap slushy drinks. I never really liked the taste of whiskey but you, you made it taste fantastic. Live music was always a plus if we managed to be there at the right time. My best friend, Allison, with Die Hard Construction, renovated your inside seating and outside bar. She lives in Houston now and wishes she could make it down, one last time, but can’t. You know, I know it sounds crazy but, I always lucked out when it came to parking. Know that Austin will miss you! Love you guys! Take care and enjoy your retirement!!! Best.

I had the waffles with chicken and they where pretty decent. Also tried the mushroom burger and it was really good. Love the environment and costumer service provided by the staff.

This is a great place to bring your dog or your kids. They have a huge awesome patio with live music and a little playscape as well as life sized connect 4! We had sweet potato fries, grilled cheese sandwich and spinach dip. It was all sinfully delicious and pretty cheap. The drink menu looked great too. Overall great hang out spot and they’re right next to Dolce Neve so you can get gelato on your way out!

Quick update of a review I posted a few years back. I love the location and how unapologetically South Austin it is. It’s quirky, relaxed, dog friendly, and a perfect place to kick your feet up and have a beer with a friend. Their drink specials are on point. 1.99 tall boys all the time? .99 cent margaritas when it’s over 100 degrees out? Count me in!!! But with the good there is always the bad; First off, I notice the service hasn’t changed. I think they must be very lenient on the ‘experience required’ part of the application because every time I’ve been here, our server has been awful and I’ve been left wondering, «where’s my drink? Who was our server? We’re the only people here! I feel like I’m dying of thirst.» Let’s talk about the food, it’s hit or miss. All of the entrees I’ve had were pretty awful BUT their frito pie and appetizers have been on point. I wouldn’t bring out of towners here for dinner or anything. This is def one of my fav happy hour spots though.

Every time I come here I always leave here happy. Cheap tall boy lonestars everyday, decent priced and sized food. The outdoor area is great for bands, hanging out with friends and for the children. You can also bring your pets. Really great chill spot to eat for good American style food for a decent price.

This place is awesome! My friend brought me here when I visited Austin. It’s awesome! The décor and ambience is really casual and friendly. The staff was really friendly and genuine. If the weather permits it’s really fun to sit outside. If I had kids I would come here often! They have a playground next to the tables so the little ones can have fun within eye and ear shot and not have to sit at a table while you converse with friends. I’m sad I couldn’t come back for brunch because I hear their Bloody Mary bar is shweet! When I come back for a visit I will definitely visit them again. I highly recommend!

Pros * The food — it’s eclectic and sooooo Austin. I’ve ordered everything from a classic breakfast to the chicken fried chicken — everything is delicious and they take care to get your order correct, or corrected quickly if need me. * Great for groups — call ahead and they will get you set up nicely and have extremely efficient servers * Atmosphere — Cornhole, giant connect 4, live music, a small playground and dog friendly! Cons * Recently they lost part of the property, so I think ping pong is gone. Also, there is always one bartender that there that is perpetually rude — at least he is consistent? Definitely a place to check out while in Austin!

Let me preface this review before I delve in. I would not Freddie’s again. To say I was excited for this eatery would be an understatement. Myself and two friends were on the prowl for a scrumptious chicken and waffles brunch on a quaint, rainy Sunday. At first we were set on Bacon, excessively excited by a mere battered chicken breast on a waffle. Myself, in particular, was not too tied to this option, seen more as a mercenary in search for the best possible alternative. My friend Cooper was adamant Bacon was the place. Adam, the third and pivotal player to this equation was also pro-bacon. We went, and were quickly disheartened by its long line. We then opted for other, viable options. We traveled the streets of downtown Austin, in search for the best chicken and waffles that would satisfy our every intensifying need. We put our names on multiple lists, such as Counter Café(a fan favorite) and then 24 Diner(ol’ faithful) and East Side Café(always quality). We weighed other options, at last minute notice, comrade Adam suggested Luck J’s. We were set. We rejoiced, and reminisced about our whole perilous situation. This was a pivotal moment in our Freddie’s experience. As we pointed our stomaches and GPS’s to Lucky J’s, we called in a preemptive attempt to mitigate our time in line. Not only was there no line, a line was no longer an option. The place was closed :(Scrambling for options, we collectively felt weak, meager, and unworthy of the very object we initially set out for. We each scrambled for our nearest smartphone, searching curated lists looking for anything and everything that would suffice. Then, I mistakenly came across a list. All of the other options had 45+ min waits, except for one. Freddie’s Place. I called and to our surprise there was no line. We rejoiced, jubilance pouring for our bodies. We were vulnerable, unable to see the dangers that lay ahead. Enter Freedie’s place. Without a care in the world, we were excited to finally fulfill our mission objective. We entered the establishment with a large sign reading«Dogs welcome» Once we arrived we encountered no line. We happily got our menu’s and took a seat. Then reality sunk in. Cooper, Adam and I glanced around, intoxicated by the number of chachkies on the wall. It was if allibaba was selling everything you never wanted to buy, and Freddie’s Place decided to go all in and purchase the whole thing. There was a Price as Right Wheel, that was missing far more than the gusto of Bob Barker. There were more fake Jack Daniels bottles on the wall than one would need to quench the needs of an entire AA meeting. Cooper and I looked at each other, suddenly realizing the gravity of our mistaken. Nevertheless, Adam was infatuated, jotting down architecture ideas for his next apartment. We then started to really dig into our menus and lo and behold we ascertained or chicken and waffles. At this point, our waiter gave us complimentary blueberry muffins. Exuberant by this friendly gesture, we then all tried our muffins in anticipation of greatness. Greatness they were not. Gritness is what would be needed to finish these small, bland, butter vehicles. Our table chatted amoung ourselves about our dismay at the muffins, but surely felt this was an exception to an otherwise perfect meal to come. We then placed our order. Chicken and waffels, no problem. While we waited, we conversed about décor, people and the unimpressive bloody marry bar that resembled a gas station’s attempt at finger food. Yet, we were still ready for our impending breakfast. All of a sudden, as if it our prayers had been answered three large plates of chicken and waffles emerged. However, it turned out to be one sizable piece of chicken, and two measly waffles. Nevertheless we forged on, precariously placing our chicken on our waffles. Naturally I then tried to pour maple syrup on over my soon to be meal. However, I was caught off guard by the thick filament that formed on top of my fake syrup, strong enough to hold Andy Milonakis before he hit puberty. Still, nothing was going to deter me from this experience. I continued to arrange my meal, and then went in for my first bite. Excited, and honestly a bit nervous from anticipation I bit in. Expecting a confetti esq experience of flavor resembling a Chinese New Year, I was greeted by the PTSD of matzah from passovers growing up. Bland, uninspiring, and just simply terrible was the first bite. Maybe I set my standards to high I thought and echoed to the table. We all agreed. Cooper was in the same position as I, but Adam was content as if we was a baby dolphin, excited to learn he could finally flip himself. Cooper and I forged on, hoping that with each bite our experience would get better. This was not the case. The waffle started to become more bland, somehow morphing itself more into a table sponge with each and every bite. It was as if the waffle’s flavor decided to go on strike. End Part I. To be continued…

Freddie’s is a pretty rad place in regards to scene and vibe. It’s hard to find such a green place in town that allows dogs and has good food. I get the lunch special on a pretty regular basis and its very satisfying for $ 8, drink included! Also – they have an awesome moon pie dessert that will knock you out! Amazing!

chill atmosphere with friendly staff and HUGE portions. We opted for Freddie’s so that we can sit and lounge in their big deck and enjoy some drinks under stringed lights. However, it was pretty cold the night we went so we dined indoors instead. Their drinks were solid — I tried their peach tea press and wanted more peach and sweet tea flavors to pull through. I also tried their ½ carafe of bubbly with grapefruit juice and was very impressed with what $ 7 will get you! my favorite thing about Freddie’s is the way they served their nachos — 1 huge serving plate with all your nacho toppings and the chips served on the side. no need to worry about sogginess here, and you control how many toppings you devour with each bite! A solid establishment with attentive wait staff, ample seating, relatively clean bathrooms, and good drinks/food.

This is a pretty cool place to visit. Nice atmosphere, nice wait staff and pretty good food. The pita taco with veggies was surprisingly good. The pricing on the menu is super quirky, as are the names. If not for anything else, you gotta visit just to look at the stuff on the menu. The patio is as kid friendly as the central market patio(which is excellent for kids and parents alike) I’m not sure i will drive down every week to visit Freddie’s, but I sure will not say no to driving down here once a month to get my «Austin» on.

This is my absolute favorite place to drink at 0730… okay so that sounds bad, but as a night shift nurse Freddie’s is an awesome AM cocktail place with excellent mexican food(nachos with eggs and bacon… yes please) and great service. Try the pink drink and chicken fried steak and waffles, I bet you won’t be able to finish it! But you can try! :)

This is not the greatest restaurant in the world, but if I had two days left to live and I was stuck in Austin, I would go to Freddie’s twice. Breakfast is the best time to go, but all times are good for Fred. I think they mess up our order every time on purpose. It’s become a joke at this point, like, yes obviously they messed up our order again. Excellent comfort food, great atmosphere, cheap drinks, tall canned beers for $ 2, and an ultra-relaxed atmosphere. Freddie’s is great — classic South Austin. \ Don’t miss: –Chicken and Waffles –Burger –Things with cheese on them

I’ve been here twice for breakfast and both times have enjoyed myself. I love the laidback patio feel of the outdoor space, and how approachable and friendly the waitstaff are — they seemed to know my friend who lives in the neighborhood and his wife by name. The food was tasty but nothing really special, the service was prompt, and the bill came out within minutes of our asking for it. The breakfast nachos with eggs were an inventive and tasty appetizer, but for chicken and waffles, I wish I’d been at 24 Hour Diner. A-OK sums up this place for me. I’m taking away stars because it was really off putting to have my breakfast cocktail in a disposable plastic glass. It took away any sort of fanciness that I associate with eating out and made the experience feel cheap. Next time I go, I’ll know to expect it — or to ask for a reusable vessel. My friends orders the mimosas and the from the Bloody Mary bar and each of them were handed plastic throwaway cups, too. What gives, Freddie’s Place? Please tell me you’re at least recycling the cups.

Ok so this is my second morning in a row having breakfast at Freddie’s. Super great service with a very laid back feel. Wonderful outdoor seating that is kid and pet friendly. My super favorite breakfast is the cinnamon roll pancake as you can see from the pic I ate it up! Perfect amount of sweet without being too sweet. Nothing completes a great breakfast like drinking my coffee out of the coveted Princess mug. If you are looking for a great place to eat that is priced well and tastes great look no further!

I went to Freddie’s the other day for my first time and found most of the experience to be positive, with just a few minor complaints. First, the good: — large outdoor patio complete with fans, misters, twinkly lights, and lots of fun activities — live music which although was not my cup of tea was still pleasant background noise — $ 1.00 frozen margaritas from noon to 10pm if the temperature is 100+ degrees — the queso! Probably my favorite I’ve found so far in Austin Now, the not so good: — service definitely left something to be desired. I got the feeling our waiter was new. He wasn’t rude or anything, just slow to take our orders and get refills, while other employees delivered us our drinks, appetizer and entrees. He also mixed up the checks between my table and the neighboring one — my chicken wrap was good but I thought it was weird that it didn’t come with a side dish, but that could just be my inner fat kid talking ;) — my friend’s burger looked fine but the server said it would come medium and it was definitely well done I’ll give ‘em another shot though, especially for that queso and dollar margs!

Freddie’s Place has a great outdoor patio with a playground for the kids, a little stage area for live music/performances and some funky art. I usually come here with my running group as we usually sit outside as to not offend anyone inside the establishment. We don’t want to offend anyone with our sweat after our long runs. The food was okay. Unfortunately our waiter was not keen on our group and didn’t want to give all of us separate checks. So it ended up as in one big check. Parking can be tricky since it is a small lot.

Freddie’s Place is pretty A-OK. That’s really the appropriate word for it. It’s got a pretty chill atmosphere, the service is great, the food is good. The food isn’t GREAT, but it’s good. I very much enjoyed my burger. They have outdoor seating, and had it not been mega hot out that day(seriously, I’d done enough walking and was disgustingly sweaty), I’d have loved to sit out there. Next time. Our server was great. He misunderstood my drink order, but as a result, I went with what he thought I ordered because little did I know that I really wanted Dr. Pepper. I mean that in all sincerity. I ordered a Diet Coke and he said Dr. Pepper and I responded«NO, THAT! YES.» and he made sure that I was serious. And I was. I so was. This is pretty much the epitome of casual Austin dining.

Hands down the best chicken salad I have ever had and believe me I have searched and searched all over. The service though has always been kinda ho hum. It usually takes a while for anyone to come to the table and no one really seems that excited to be there. Also I appreciate that they are trying to continue to keep Austin weird and by doing that I think they are refusing to make any changes or updates to their back patio and furniture. I think it’s time to upgrade a little bit. The back area is kinda bordering on being gross. The whole backyard is completely unleveled and covered in leaves, the tables and chairs are cheap, wobbly and look unclean mostly. You can’t really sit anywhere outside without leaves falling all over your food. It’s pretty trashy. Please make changes!
