I set up an appointment to bring my 5 and 2 year olds to blow Christmas ornaments, and it was amazing. The 2 year old was obviously too young to get in there with the furnace and everything, but she loved playing with the sample glass pieces and watching everything. And the 5 year old had a blast; normally she’s very shy, but she was thrilled to be involved in the actual blowing process, after having picked the colors. My parents loved the final ornaments that were created, as well as the video of their granddaughter making them.

Really a great experience. Make-your-own events and classes are great. Plus, the studio & gallery is filled with all kinds of great art, custom glass, and lighting!

Back in the fall, I randomly looked up events for the family to do over the weekend and ran across them having glass blowing classes to make pumpkins! It turned out being everyone’s favorite thing over the weekend! Brad and my 3 kids, ages ranging from 10 – 15, participated in making their very own glass pumpkin. Morgan was very thorough in giving directions and helped everyone step-by-step through the process. Everyone was allowed to pick out their colors and each came out with a very unique design. It was a wonderful experience for everyone and I highly recommend coming here! I’ll be coming back soon!

I fell in love with the swirly aqua glass votives at Perla’s restaurant in Austin and tracked down the owner to find out where he bought them. Turns out they were handmade by Glass Blowing Austin. I contacted Morgan and she made 3 just for me. The glass votives are dreamily beautiful, nicely heavy and luxurious despite being just $ 25. Morgan also shipped them to me since I live in Houston. I’m excited to return to Austin so I can go to Glass Blowing Austin in person and see their creations!

We commissioned Morgan to do a piece for our home. It exceeded our expectations. Morgan was great to work with, plus we got to see the piece being created. It was very reasonably priced and she really worked with us to give us just what we wanted. I can highly recommend her work

We recently saw a fabulous Dale Chihuly exhibit at the Dallas Arboretum and got inspired by some of his«reeds» that he installed in a pond there. We have a very small pond and thought how cool it would be to have a similar, albeit much smaller, version of what we saw. So we contacted Morgan and told her what we were trying to do. Together we came up with a design that would work for our little space. She found a metal worker who created the stand for them to sit on, and today we picked up the finished work. It looks fabulous, and after we get it installed, I’ll add a photo! Morgan was really great to work with. Very easy going, did a terrific job, and very reasonably priced. I’m sure the classes are fantastic — she’s got a very nice studio set up. This experience has reminded me that if you have an idea for something you want, a great option is to find a local artist and commission the work. It’s far less expensive than it sounds, you get to participate in the creation of something you love, and it helps support a local artist — how cool is that?! One note — the location of the studio is no longer at 1406 Smith Road — it’s near Lamar and Airport Blvd.

If you want some unforgettable date ideas, this is your place! After checking out their tent at the Sunset Valley Farmers Market, my boyfriend decided to surprise me with a fun date at the RC Hot Glass studio for Halloween. For 10 dollars each we got to decorate a stylishly cut wine bottle with glue and stickers(I have forgotten how fun playing with glue can be!) and then watch as they sandblasted around our designs. The result was a fun two textured vase or candle holder and an awesome and inexpensive fun date idea, especially since you get to watch the glassblowers do their magic in the studio when you are done. During the East by Southeast Studios event we saw people making glass flowers, also a great date idea… and sweet present to get. For 25 dollars you get a great introduction to working with glass and maybe a creative and brag-worthy Valentine’s Day present. Wink wink… Seriously, a dozen roses can’t beat a hand-made glass flower. And finally, the most interesting date by far, is the glass blowing class. I gave the boyfriend a gift certificate for one class as a Christmas present and we just recently went to the Saturday morning 3 hour class with Morgan to learn all the basics. The atmosphere was relaxed and all hands on, which is great because a lot of other Austin studios do more of the fun stuff for you. Morgan was great and was there to help us out the entire time. We got to gather our glass from the slightly intimidating lava-breathing furnace, queue Indiana Jones Temple of Doom, add color, use all the tools, and even do some basic glass blowing. It was awesome and a great way to get bonus points for such a different and fun date. We made a paper weight and ornaments… too funny watching your date’s face turn red when blowing the glass, and got to watch Morgan make some incredible drinking glasses. Sign me up for the next class! Definitely check them out.

I did a fair amount of glass blowing in college and was extremely excited when I heard about Rebecca Cole’s studio. It’s perfect. Britain, the shop assistant, has more than enough knowledge to run the shop and teach even an experienced glass blower a few things. There’s a top loading furnace and a glory hold big enough to make a pretty good size piece of glass. I recommend you check this place out if you have experience blowing glass or have always wanted to see what it’s like. I started by taking their beginner’s Saturday morning class and the refresher was perfect.
