Gold’s Gym

Overall, I really like this gym. It’s pretty new and they keep it clean. It has a good range of equipment and weights. Opens early and closes pretty late. Good wifi. Basically, it has everything necessary for a good workout.
Like every other gym, it gets slammed during peak hours … especially now that everyone is working on their «summer bod.» With it getting busier, they really could use another squat rack and some more dumbbells. They’re also a little sales-​pitchy but what gym isn’t?

This gym gets busy but I absolutely love my trainer Woody! Super motivating and pays attention to my goals. Coming from Vegas I was hesitant of the stereotypical creeper trainer, but not Woody! Great trainer, great gym.

As far as Gold’s Gyms go, this one is my favorite of the ones I’ve utilized in Austin.
Pros:
–Staff is friendly and attentive.
–Equipment is clean and in good condition.
–Sauna is always on and ready to go.
–Bathrooms are always clean.
–Lots of equipment.
–Wifi (usually) works
–And best of all, they pay attention to the cardio cinema, and restart the movies as soon as they end.
Cons:
— Not enough parking during rush hour
— WAY too salesy! CONSTANT ads for Golds and their crossfit package and personal training and the app and pay to signup for contests, etc.
It’s a good gym, and a great value. Just bring headphones to drown out the ads.

It’s a really nice gym and it’s much closer to UT where I work than the south gyms when it comes to getting on 35, so I’ve started coming there more often even if it’s the opposite direction from home! The first time I went though, it was a rainy day and I slipped on the huge concrete slab right before I entered. I feel pretty hard on my bottom and it took a few weeks for it to stop hurting. I’ve asked a couple times if anyone else has slipped and was told no, but found it interesting that a staff member was telling someone that same day to be careful as they left as it was slippery. Either way, I am suggesting that maybe you want to put floor runners in front of each door to prevent this. My fall could have been much worse and you have people coming in flip flops to swim, so I would think it would make sense.

Been a member here for almost 3 months now. It’s always clean and can sometimes get packed but everyone is pretty friendly and willing to share the equipment. There’s a lot of motivation from the staff and other members so it always keeps u on your game.

Has a pool. Open early. Open late. Helpful staff. Has a sauna. Clean showers and bathrooms. One problem though… during peak hours, the parking lot gets packed. Lots of idiots double park too.

I’ve been going to this gym for a few months and it does the job. The place is clean, the trainers are nice, the clientele is energetic, the locker rooms are well kept, and I love their selection of classes & times available. My main issue with the gym is the parking. There are not enough (granted I also go during GTL time). Also, the spots are too small and combined with the fact that a lot of members carelessly park causing the butterfly effect of parking chaos all up & down the rows. I wish the management would either enforce or repaint the spots. There is SOME extra parking in the front by Aveda, but I hate getting excited to workout and it being squashed with the anxiety of trying to find parking just so I can bear fight someone for a spin bike in time for my class.

Do you like pumping iron like a maniac and showering in a clean/​new facility that also offers a rustic feel with woodwork accents? Perfect this is the place for you! It’s all new for the most part and there is a ton of cardio equipment both up and down stairs… That’s right cardio equipment that requires you to climb stairs to get to… Now that is circuit training. The only drawback is the dumbbells only go up to 225# so it is hard to get a good chest pump.

Nice gym, crowded sometimes, staff is friendly. Wifi could work better! The bathroom could be stocked better

Ever want to get ripped off, go sign up at GOLDS. They charge you over the upfront price they tell you it will cost, and then you pay even more. Their pricing is not available in print anywhere, and everyone i know who goes to a GOLDS GYM has been over charged.
Want to have your credit card auto billed and end up owing more money than the membership actually costs, then go here.

Great gym, knowledgeable staff, brand new equipment, cardio cinema??? What’s not to like!

I signed up here because of the location, and my gym (next door) closed. I’ve been only a couple of times because I dislike it so much. First, during my initial tour the salesperson criticized my routine as «too low impact» (it’s fine impact for me), and in general I don’t like the Gold’s attitude (very high testosterone-​y). Second, I like to listen/​watch television when on stationary machines, but half of the earphone plugs were inoperative. Third, this club is designed to be social, and I just want to be left alone.
Finally, had my credit card stolen and missed November’s payments. I went in with the new card to correct the problem and was told the late fees would be waved by the manager. The late fees were charged.
[UPDATE: After I complained via email about the late fee charge, I was told that my account was given a credit for the same amount, which I can presumably use in future payments. So, one more star goes to the manager for doing that.]
[UPDATE: I was charged for this month, despite the fact the general manager, Carol Peterson, said that I would have credit on my account. She has not responded to my request for an explanation for five days. Back to one star. This place is the worst. Also, despite paying what was owed as soon as I discovered the problem, the gym reported me to collections.]

Soooooooooooooooooooo, I only go to this gym because I get a discount with work and its close to work. my first time there I was overlooked for like a good 5mins. then I came back and gave them a second chance, bc face it, we all need one. they signed me up so fast and promised me things I have yet to receive. forget it, I like the gym, i’ll over look that. bought 4 sessions with a personal trainer and I was unable to attend my last one, so I lost it. no refund, no nothing. I asked and they pointed me to the 13 page contract I electronically signed. ok, lessoned learned. ugh. I still go because now I stuck for 10 more months. but hey, the equipment and ppl who work out there are a cool. many of my coworkers are there so its cool. what took the cake was yesterday. I go to buy a smoothie and again im over looked but for only for a minute because I make them attend to me. meanwhile mr. and mrs. muscle couple get into with the same manager that overlooked me the first time and promised me things I have to get. it got loud and things were said. I think I have found the common denominator. Curly head, lady manager in her 50’s…she has to go. ever since I signed up she has been a cancer to this gym and im sure a few other ppl will agree. I don’t like her work ethics or her attitude. I enjoy seeing women in manager roles, it gives me delight to know we are working hard but this lady… she’s rude and makes promises she doesn’t plan to keep. I guess she’s in it only for the $$ not caring if ppl come to release stress or lose weight. just my 2 cents.

Update:
During my Gold’s membership, my company decided to do a ‘corporate wellness’ program with Gold’s Gym, which basically allowed me to keep my same membership (and membership number), and the company just took over the bi-​weekly payments. Pretty sweet deal, until I left the company…
After I left my company, I went into Gold’s Gym to have an Associate just change the payment type from my previous employer, back to my personal credit card. Simple, right? Nope. I was told that I’d have to start over as a new member, including all Initiation Fees. WTF?! They had no problem changing my payment type from my personal card to my employer, but now they were going to nickel-​and-​dime me for another initiation fee? Absolutely not. I told the associate that I’d just go to another gym. He quickly pointed out that I’d be charged an initiation fee at another gym but at this point, I don’t mind doing that. It’s the principle of it. I’d rather pay that fee at another gym than to continue doing business with Gold’s Gym which has consistently underwhelmed me with their customer service and overall ‘eff you, pay me’ attitude towards their members. See ya, Gold’s…

Employee Latonya is extremely rude and unprofessional. Her actions reflect negatively on the entire location.

This is the closest location to my office. Excellent staff, clean facility and enough of everything for me to get my workout finished on my break time. Love!

Gyms are a trap, and this gym is no different. They claim they have an easy cancellation process, and it is anything but. If you ever think you might want to cancel your membership, don’t even bother joining.
Absolutely horrible customer service!
On a more specific note about this facility, the hot tub is disgusting. They do not clean it, and so there is all sorts of grime around the edges. Such a shame, this gym had potential, and then came crashing down by corporate greed.

It’s a Golds. It used to be a Western Wear store. I, personally, love the place. I love the wooden ceilings and skylights. It’s new and popular. Lots of students from UT.
The thing is that I’ve been to a lot of Golds franchises and this one is my favorite I’ve been to in Austin. The staff is fantastic and actually greets you with a legit smile. The facilities are clean. Great wet area… The sauna is roomy and is gender specific if you prefer to avoid the awkward flirting that goes on in co-​ed saunas.
The weight area has everything that I need, including a powerlifting area to get your deadlifts on. I’m going to 4 star it and make a mental note to come back and possibly drop 5 stars if they keep up the good work. :)

After hearing about how Gold’s was running a New Year special and offering no joining fees, I stopped in. Unfortunately this information was not accurate. There is no joining fee if you buy 4 personal trainer sessions, which is definitely more than paying a joining fee, which totally nullifies the enticement of joining fee, because you’ll be paying more.
They also lead you to this little computer area, where they attempt to sell it to you in a way that seems really convoluted and indirect. The prices are not laid out in a clear fashion that is easy to understand. They have biweekly fees rather than monthly, so it seems like you are getting a better deal and paying less than you think. Usually you pay per month at other gyms, but not here.
Their equipment seems nice. They have a really cool movie theatre exercise area. They have a separate area for certain types of training.

I went into get a seven day pass to try out the gym. I was told they would have the pass ready for me by the end of my workout. They did not and told me to come back the next day. I called twice the next day to tell them I could not make it by but no one ever answered the phone. So on the second day I called again but yet no answer. So I went by in person to get the pass but they still did not have it and told me I needed to come back tomorrow to get it but that I would also need to know the names of both the front desk person (who did not give me their name) and the FC (who I never even met) before anything could be done to help me. Plus they were closing in 15 minutes and did not have time to help me today anyway since they were about to close. (???).
The front desk is a mess and clearly none of them give a damn about their customers. Nice gym on the inside, but definitely won’t be going back there to be treated like I’m a hassle, inconvenience and a disturbance to their sitting around and laughing and chatting with their buddies back behind the counter.

LOVE THIS PLACE.
Definitely larger than Lincoln Village but as mentioned previously, it doesn’t feel too big. They have a pool, GoldsFit, cardio cinema, a second floor with ellipticals (nice area to do lunges), and the same great staff.
