If only –1 stars were an available option. This food truck has been visiting my place of employment for about a month now. Today I ordered a smoothie, and watched a food service horror show in action. The woman who was preparing my smoothie, handled my cash, handled garbage, moved a garbage can, and then proceeded to put her hands in to the large bag of frozen fruit used to make smoothies… without washing her hands, without gloves and without any utensils. *VOMIT* Any food service employee who does something this disgusting shows no intelligence or awareness of what they are doing. I would sooner dumpster dive!

I love Austin food trucks atmosphere! During a weekend trip to Austin, the boy and I went to the food truck park across of LA Barbecue looking for a 2nd meal. Gonzo Juice caught our eyes… or rather the chicken on top of the truck caught our attention. They offer a nice selection of sandwiches which look really tasty. Since our tummies were full, we opted for the watermelonade instead. It was great! The drink was so refreshing.

Damn! The Pig Roast sammy with sweet pulled pork, provolone and carrot slaw — yes, carrot slaw — between two slices of perfectly toasted bread is right up there for Top Taste of the Year!

So we have good trucks that come to our office, awesome. The foods mostly good to great and the service is, well, typically food truck service. Well, except gonzo juice. It’s obvious this guy loves what he does, and does it well. I got EXACTLY what I asked for, which is rare, and it was fantastic. Thank you and keep it up!

I had the Pig Roast… it was insanely delicious, and the Nutter Butter milkshake will blow your mind. Friendly service as well.

Loved their Hail Seitan sandwich. I got mine with sriracha ranch instead of regular ranch and it was pretty awesome.

The boyfriend and I were starving after kicking some ass in Muay Thai(ok, he taught, I kicked some ass/whimpered). I suggested we head to the nearby food trailer park on 6th and Waller. It’s been forever since I’ve been here– this place has changed! A ton of great places. However the sams at Gonzo’s called to us. We couldn’t decide between the pig roast and the ruby shoes, so we ordered both. I also got a salad so I could feel self-righteous. Breaking it down: 1) pig roast: probably the best thing on the list and what we ordered. Savory sweet flavor explosion. That carrot slaw is my jam. 2) ruby shoes: I mean, it’s a Reuben. It was good– pastrami quality was excellent. But the bread was so buttery that the sandwich was borderline soggy. 3) saddlebag salad: pretty great– but flavor wise, something felt missing. Overall, pretty nom. Would love to try their breakfast!

I’m absolutely Gonzo about Gonzo Juice! Can’t say enough about this trailer, they are the masters of hot sandwiches. You come up to this chicken koop of a trailer thinking you may get some kookie action but most all of what they offer is fresh, healthy, appetizing, and tastes exceptional. Of the 2 hot sandwiches I’ve had so far I’d say no one comes close to quality and quantity. First Visit as a Gonzo Virgin — — it’s 11pm Sunday night Memorial Day weekend. I have a friend in town visiting, she’s not drunk or pregnant, she’s in great shape, and she’s got hunger pains. She specifically requests me to find her some good trailer grub so I drive down E. 6th because there’s bound to be something available, right? NOT! Most everything is closed, however, I do see a spotlight shining in the E. 6th Food Trailer Park and a crowd next to this big rooster head — –looks like we found our oasis! Even though there are 2 trailers open but everyone is standing in line at Gonzo Juice. We look over the menu — it actually looks appetizing: smoothies, shakes, salads, wraps and hot sandwiches — a very diverse menu. She goes for Grandma’s Orchard Wrap without onions and a Nutty Uncle Shake, I’m going for some liquid action tonight — — the Melon Patch drink and California Bubba Smoothie please. Turns out we’re their last order — — they ran out of almost everything. The breakdown: — Melon Patch was really awesome! Light, refreshing, quenched my thirst, and not too sweet. — Cali Bubba Smoothie was superb! Not too sweet, tasted the banana and blueberry, and it filled me up too — — just what I wanted, nothing too heavy or sugary. I will definitely be back for this one. — The Nutty Uncle Shake was excellent! What’s not to like w/ice cream, peanut butter, and chocolate? It was really filling too — — a really nice sweet treat for a hot and muggy night. — Grandma’s Orchard Wrap — — they forgot to take out the onions, she started picking them off, they were like«hey, our bad, we can make you another one right now — — we got enough ingredients» — — sure thing! What was really cool about that was they were already cleaning up and ready to jet, exhausted from the last rush, and they still were eager to please and brought the food back out and made her another wrap without onions — — that’s customer service! They let us keep the other one — — I had it for lunch the next day, it ROCKED! And I love onions. Recent Visits: — Had to come back for the Pig Roast Sandwich(sweet pulled pork, provolone, tangy carrot slaw, brown mustard grilled on Texas Toast). It’s their top seller — — and hot damn now I know why! I took it home(see pic) and devoured it. That was honestly the BEST pulled pork sandwich I’ve ever had, sweet n salty n tangy n a mouthful as it’s so damn big you won’t be able to get your mouth around it(that’s what she said). A Top 3 Hot Sandwich for sure. — Ruby Shoes: Jewish Rye Bread, pastrami, swiss, sauerkraut, sweet chile chipotle russian dressing — — probably the best pastrami sandwich I’ve had since I can remember, and I don’t think anyone in town comes close. Reminded me of a NYC Deli with an added twist, it was a feast loaded with meat and I could only finish half of it. Excellent quality food that tastes great, consistency out-of-your-way friendly and eager to please customer service, and they’re consistent on every visit. Evan and his cohort do a great job, and they’ve now added some friendly n fashionable females who meet n greet you with sweet smile, very cute and that can’t hurt — –they love playing 80’s and 90’s rap for entertainment. Easily a 5-star rating in my book.

Best sandwich I’ve had this year. Ordered a Gonzo. Texas toast(French toast style), turkey, provolone, strawberry jam. It’s even better than it sounds. Definitely a little sweet bc of the jam. Cheese was warm and gooey. Great flavor with the toast. TONS of turkey. My buddy orders the pulled pork sandwich. Also extremely tasty. Piled SO high with meat also. Taste was A+. So you definitely get you money’s worth. Lotsa meat. Really great flavor. Can’t wait to go back.

I was drawn to Gonzo Juice, I’ll be honest, by the huge rooster head on top of their truck. Hey, whatever will bring them in, right? Looking over the menu, I was drawn to the«Hail Seitan» sandwich, as it seemed a good contrast to the rest of our weekend(six BBQ joints in two days). The menu promised«house made buffalo seitan, tangy carrot slaw, lettuce, provolone and ranch dressing on a Hawaiian bun»; it sounded great, so I placed my order. For those not familiar with seitan, it’s what vegans call a «meat analogue», a substance that can be prepared to have the texture and«tooth» of chicken or other meats, while still remaining animal product free. Made from wheat gluten, it’s also referred to as «wheat meat», and I had experienced its goodness on a number of occasions prior to this. Upon delivery, I observed a very good looking sandwich. All of the promised elements were in view, so I dug in. The bun was great, the carrot slaw definitely had the promised«tang», but sadly, it might have been the best part of the sandwich. The seitan was presented in «strips», almost like a fajita cut, rather than a «shredded» format that might have worked better on this sandwich. The strips were too chewy and, while they did have good buffalo taste, the texture was just too off-putting. I did finish the sandwich because everything else about it was quite good. Bottom line: If they could work on that seitan texture a bit, this could be a knockout sandwich. In fairness, though, this is not a vegan truck, and this dish is probably not their specialty. I’d definitely try this truck again, although I’d probably go with the«Ruby Shoes» or other sandwich.

I had a difficult time trying to catch this place open! When I tried to go to the south first location, they were closed about half an hour before the posted hours. About a month later, my deal was about to expire, and I checked the site again to remind myself of the hours and menu. The old address was still there, but an update said that the trailer had moved to 35. Bummer! I devised an elaborate scheme to meet a friend there and buy her lunch(needed to use up all of the deal bucks), but it was closed, again. This time, the sign out front said that they weren’t open for lunch at all on that day! Just dinner and after, I guess for the downtown bar crowd. We spent the rest of our lunch hour running to Thundercloud.(I just checked, and their website now accurately reflects their hours and locations, as far as I know). When I finally caught the place open(had no choice but to go that evening for dinner), they seemed to be the most popular trailer out of the 3 or so there. The guy out front was entertaining, said he wasn’t in the kitchen because he was feeling under the weather, so he would take orders and yell them in. Reminded me of Jack Black in «Bernie.» The actual sandwiches and drinks(watermelon juice, lemonade) were interesting. I’m sad that I let my boyfriend order the pig roast, because it was quite tasty, and kind of what I had planned to order. In the interest of sampling, I tried the Gonzo(I like turkey & brie generally), but the very fluffy/soft turkey and french toast with jelly was sweet to the point of mildly gross for me. If you feel like hanging out by the 35 frontage road for some reason, check them out and get the pig roast. And probably a smoothie, because that sounds delicious.

At first glance this place seems too small to be any good. But in previous experience, bahn bahn, for example the food is outstanding. My first of many orders started with the infamous pig roast sannich, followed with the California bubba smoothie. The pulled pork with carmelized onions, carrot slaw, and provolone cheese on Texas toast. It’s worth every penny and more. The California bubba. Pardon me if i miss an ingredient. Almond milk, almond butter, blackberries, and banana? I was so utterly amazed with the flavor and balance i forgot the four Simple ingredients. The staff is super cool, and always friendly. Check out their new location!

Great little find! The California Bubba is a really unique smoothie! You can really taste the almonds! The Pig Roast was equally amazing. Great service and very friendly. Everything we tried had a different spin to it which made it a fun dining experience!

:) I had lunch at Griddle Me This, Gonzo today — Sutton and Momo’s new joint located INSIDE of Highland Market at 4511 Airport Blvd, 7am to 3pm Monday thru Saturday.
This is what I have to report: Gonzo don’t make sandwiches, Gonzo CREATES Griddled DANK-WICHES! When you walk in it smells so good you forget that you’re in a convenience store-like market. I even forgot to buy cigarettes…
Now, on to the grub. I had the Ruby Shoes(Jewish rye bread, pastrami, swiss cheese, sauerkraut and the sweet chile chipotle russian dankness!) I know that Chef Gonzo is a passionate cook & loving human being, so I was not surprised at all when my Ruby Shoes was delivered to me by the man himself: it was beautiful! Perfectly golden griddled rye, moist hot pastrami, griddled sauerkraut, melted swiss & the aforementioned chipotle russian dank-ness left my taste buds tingly & my tummy satisfied.
Afterwards I was ready for mind expanding, laughter filled conversation and a nice walk with Patricia(who enjoyed today’s taco salad special so much she said that she could eat another one, no problem! She also said that she often doesn’t finish what’s on her plate. This was not such an occasion…)
We also got to taste Momo’s Slo Mo braised beef(10hrs!) which was amazing as well. :d Delish!
I’ve been waiting for another inexpensive joint to open in our neck of the woods and Sutton & Momo done done it well. Thanks guys! :) Cheers & Peace!
P. S. Special shout out to Sideshow Tattoo and Piercing who let us chill in the shade of their spot as we ate and conversed. If I ever do get a tattoo, I’m gonna get it there! Cheers & Peace!

I ate here today and was really happy with what I got. Dad’s Truck was great, the blueberry /almond banana smoothie was great, as was the pulled pork sandwich. Nice owner, too. One thing that struck me was also how much color everything had. Everything was bright!

Three days later and all I can think about is the Pig Roast sandwich. Was it really that good? I better double check and come back to this trailer in a few days to confirm this find. Did I embarrass my coworker with my mmmmm sounds while engorging this lovely sandwich? Why yes, I think I did. I better go back, buy another sandwich to eat in front of her in silence. Did I see breakfast options also available? Better go back to investigate this with an empty stomach. You can put money down that I’ll be returning to this glorious chicken trailer and becoming a regular.

My mind allows me to nail down flavor combinations without trying them. But… I had no idea when I ordered up a smoothie with jalapenos in it. How crazy can juice with some«zippy» ingredients taste? I will get to that soon. Health food in Austin can run you a premium – upwards of $ 7 for a smoothie or some intensely hippie salad. Here, the prices are extremely reasonable, and the offerings are handcrafted and unique. Also, the guy running the mobile joint is awesome. The Barn Raiser was INTENSE. It is $ 4 for a small, but this premium that you are paying for is all for flavor! The beet and apple did nothing to mask that huge hit from that spicy pepper. Yikes. It definitely clears your sinuses while giving you a whole bunch of antioxidants. As my Grandma’s Orchard salad was being constructed, the dude noticed that the Feta had gone a bit south, so he made me an entirely new salad. Awesome. It was your typical candied pecans, cranberries, and pears. But, it really came together with the dressing. The beet balsamic was pretty killer – sweet, a little tart, and not heavy in the least. Now, this trailer is going to close temporarily due to zoning issues, but I assure you that you would do well to locate GJ when it moves. It will excite you with juice and salad… two things that normally do not get my motor chuggin’.

I first heard about this awesome little juice trailer via twitter through a really cool Austinite. The brother of this Brother-and-Sister team is a friendly dude with a passion. I anxiously waited a few weeks for his juice bar to open. He shared the juices he’d be featuring and as I read the ingredients, I knew I had to try ‘em all. Then he mentioned salads and sweets! I knew this would be the perfect spot to take my little vegetarian for his veggie and sweet cravings. Finally, they opened and I immediately visited. On my first visit I ordered the Melon Patch. Let’s just say that it’s my crack right now. The orange, lemon-lime and watermelon combo is perfect for welcoming spring! Their wide variety of ingredients, perfectly combined makes for an exotic treat, most definitely. I mean, I’ve never heard of jalapeños in a juice!(then again, I must live under a rock, but whatever!). Their waterlemonade has become my Kid’s favorite and always asks for it. Just yesterday I bought their Saddle Bag salad, which my Kid also gobbled up. Gonzo juice is, so far, a little juicy fish swimming in the big ol’ lake that is Food Trailers. I have a feeling that if they keep up their friendliness and passion, they’ll become more widely known and loved. Thanks Gonzo Juice for giving Austin another option when it comes to juice bars. Keep on rockin’ it!
