Green Collar Operations

My wife and I recently bought a new home and we knew we needed some new insulation in the attic. Based on the positive reviews on Unilocal we called Green Collar and they set up a consultation visit. Bill came out and looked around the house and the attic. He advised us on some other repairs (adding an additional intake vent, adding a new supply plenum) that would give us more bang for the buck than the insulation, though he also recommended new insulation. He took the time to walk me through the options and suggested some other good energy-​saving tips. The quote seemed fair based upon some quick price checks and we proceeded with the full scope suggested by Bill.
The crew that came out to do the work arrived on time, got done faster than expected, and cleaned up after themselves.
Rob, the owner of the business, scheduled a follow up visit just to make sure everything looked good.
All in all, it was a positive experience, and I would use them again for future work.

I can’t say enough great things about Rob and his crew. GCO replaced my entire duct system which was decades old. The guys who worked on it were courteous, explained the process (which matched what I was first told), and were fastidious in their cleanup. There were a couple places where they made a couple small dings in the paint, and GCO paid my painter to do those touchups, no questions asked. They even came back for a follow up visit months later to switch out a duct and add some dampers at no charge just to make sure all the rooms were getting an even flow.

Green Collar Operation is the best! I called with a concern, Bill Cook came right out, took a look and offered several solutions… then he took care of it!

Addendum to my old review, These guys just went above and beyond. During my city inspection (which passed no problem), the City inspector pointed out the water heater should not have passed because the vent pipe should have been secured at each elbow joint and was not.
Guess who fixed that for free? Yep… Green Collar gets an A+ in my book, I’d recommend them every time.

I would highly recommend Green Collar. Although I did not choose their offer, it was practically a coin flip given that I went with the repairman I had used for the last 4 years. I felt I needed some other bids and advice along with the offer from the current repairman I had been using. Brad came over on time and was extremely professional and knowledgeable. He knew more details than anyone that came over. He also prepared more bids on more brands of A/​C-​furnace systems than anyone. They offer state of the art insulation for your attic that does not contain formaldehyde and it does not compact like other types. They will help you get any rebates being offered. I would not hesitate to have used them. Be sure to have them over to learn about what is best for your home and you will find their prices very competitive if not the best.

What makes Adam with Green Collar so outstanding that I’m writing a review is not just that he provided an estimate for a new HVAC system (we wound up not needing one after all but when ours truly dies, we will use Green Collar) but that he also looked at our complete system including duct work. He looked at the square feet of our house on each floor, he looked at the duct work to see if it was adequate, and he even looked at our first floor HVAC system even though it was only a year old to make sure the two systems would work synergistically as a whole for our entire house. What I love about Green Collar is that they are not a new company, they have been in the business a long time, and that they do not do maintenance. We had been told by a maintenance company (that gives bonuses to their service people if they can make any upsales) that we needed an entirely new system and they would be happy to provide us with one. Instead, I called Adam who was wonderful and even called us later when he found an additional discount. However, I finally found a service technician who does not sell new equipment and just services the HVAC components. That technician told me that although my upstairs system was old, that there was nothing wrong with the system and there was no reason to upgrade an entire system when my furnace was perfectly fine. (The prior company made me sign a waiver after they «maintained» my furnace saying that they were not responsible for property damage or loss of life.) So, now I will only use companies like Green Collar who only sell new systems and don’t do maintenance. They rise above the potential for a conflict of interest.

Bill and Alison work really hard to make your home improvements seemless. We had extra insulation put in, a new HVAC system, diverters in the air ducts to ensure each room got the right amount of air flow. Service was fast (all under a week!) The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 (and I would give myself 4 stars as a customer becuase I didn’t think to ask the right questions) is that there wasn’t enough communication about how the work might effect your existing home warranty. I do recommend them, call especially if you are getting your home ready for solar!

Rob and Allison are awesome. I have used them on my last 2 houses. They take care of all the rebates with the city and gas company which saves me a lot of time and hassle. They are local and I will continue to refer them to anyone needing energy efficiency in their home.

We contracted with them as a prerequisite for a solar installation on our home. They were recommended by our solar contractor and as a vendor that does a lot of work with the Austin Energy inspectors (which have to approve your home before you can get solar).
We went with their recommended improvements. The work was well done and executed quickly. The employees were cordial and very responsive to our questions.
The comfort and efficiency improvement in our home has been immediate. We are running our AC 3 – 4 hours less per day with the same temperature settings and cutting $ 3-​$ 5/​day off our electric bill.
This will make an instant improvement in your quality of life and pay for it self quickly.

Just got my Energy Audit done as well as had them check for attic insulation above my garage. The tech that came out was very friendly and took his time to show me what he was checking and why. After the inspection was done he went over the things that I should look at doing now that will help with my energy bill. He also showed me somethings that I did not need to do but would help long run.

My home inspector came out and looked at our home before we purchased it. He said that the insulation in the attic was awful. After shopping for prices, I had Green Collar Operations come out to give me a quote on our home. Brad came to our home and not only saw issues with the insulation but he saw gaps in our doors and a hole in the duct system that needed to be sealed. They came out blew in the insulation, weatherized the doors and fixed the hole in the duct system. The owner of Green Collar, Rob, came out and reviewed the work… which made us feel great.
We had the sellers give us a few of their old electric bills. We are $ 100+ down from their bills last summer! (Note: I wrote this review during the summer and forgot to post it. We’ve been in the house for over six months and our utility bills are still great) I am not sure if they had the place like fridge but I have a huge feeling that the work that Green Collar did has something to do with the decrease. The home inspector told me that the best thing you can do to keep utilities costs down is have good insulation. And the gaps in the doors that we had were massive, not to mention that we would have never noticed the hole in the duct system.

Green Collar performed a comprehensive energy audit and installed additional attic insulation and weather stripping. The sales representative was informative and provided just the right level of follow through, attentive but not high pressure. The men who did the work were prompt, courteous, and efficient. I appreciated the fact that they cleaned up after themselves and left the house in the same condition that they found it. The company coordinated with the city of Austin so I could get my rebate. The best thing about this energy saving program is that the city performs a pre and post inspection so the homeowner is assured that the work has been done right.

THIS IS THE COMPANY TO GO TO FOR A/​C WORK IN AUSTIN !!! Rob at Green Collar Operations is amazing!
We have a newish 2 story condo/​townhouse (2009) that wouldn’t cool properly upstairs. We had other companies out who said they couldn’t find any problem or that we needed a several thousand dollar addition to the damping system or wanted to install an expensive exterior fan in the very tall stairwell. We had several appointments set w/​other companies that were either postponed several days or just didn’t show up.
The office staff assured us their tech would arrive the next day on time and he did. Rob did an thorough audit and ended up telling us we had a terrific system in place and only some pretty minor tweaking was needed. He helped us do some of it ourselves to control costs and went above & beyond to make our system better than ever for a quarter of what we planned to spend.
I keep Rob’s card on me at all times and recommend him and Green Collar Operations constantly.

Kermit says «It’s not easy being green» but he clearly never worked with Green Collar Operations. Save money on your utility bill, help the environment, and get rebates from the City to help pay for it. And they handle all the paperwork!
In 2010, they added insulation to the attic, sealed some window sills, and added weather stripping to exterior doors. The City kicked in a substantial rebate, but even without that, the upgrades would have paid for themselves over a couple of hot Austin Summers.
Recently, they did my ECAD audit for the sale of my home, and I was reminded of how pleasant they were to deal with, and how much money the upgrades saved me, so it is time to give props.

My attic was woefully under-​insulated. I called several companies and Green Collar was the one that expressed the most interest in doing the work and at a fair price.
I also had some attic ventilation put in by others, and between the new insulation and attic fans I am already seeing a difference in the temperature of the house. The thermostat used to be set at 73, now I have to put it up to 77. They did good work in the attic, made sure not to blow insulation over the soffit vents, kept everything contained and looking good. I love my attic now and basically want to just hang out in it!
The technicians arrived one hour late one morning and did not call beforehand. I had to call to ask where they were.

Affordable, honest, and the best part… they file the rebate, and fill out all the paperwork for the city.
