I sure wish I could give a good review here. Mike is a nice guy and super enthusiastic. He talks a good talk, but when it comes down to it, I don’t think he really knows his stuff. At least not oaks. He does give a great price, but I guess sometimes you get what you pay for… For various reasons, he had many excuses for not starting on the days we had agreed on.(someone stole his equipment, his pole broke, he ran out of spray paint. etc). That was ok, but then he came out one day and pruned a lot of our live oak tree and I didn’t realize until three days later that he had not sprayed the new cuts! I was so upset! I was VERY clear that I wanted every cut sprayed well immediately to prevent oak wilt. He said he had run out of spray and wanted to keep going but I didn’t need to worry because the trees come up with their own defense by coating their own cuts… If this were true, there would be no such thing as oak wilt on live oaks! He also cut off four feet off of a Mountain Laurel that I had specifically instructed him not to trim. I asked him why he would do that and he replied that he thought it would look better. That tree had taken me 9 ½ years to get that tall. He didn’t realize it was a Mountain Laurel and insisted that he would replace it, but once he realized how expensive they were, he just never did replace it. He is nice and insisted that he went to «tree school» and that is where he got his knowledge, but the information he gave to me was not correct. To make matters worse, the live oak that he pruned is now dropping it’s leaves and they are spotted. Live oaks don’t normally drop leaves until spring. I am now going to have to get a tree expert to look at it to make sure that it did not somehow get oak wilt during those days that Mike left it unprotected from his cuts… I am probably going to pay a lot more money to treat this tree now and it wasn’t worth the money I saved by using him. He might be fine for bushes or fast growing trees but I would not use him for oak trees for sure.

We’ve had Mike out a couple of more times at our new house, and again were completely pleased with his service and his pricing. In the spring, when you’re figuring out what trees and shrubs aren’t recovering from the drought and winter, give Mike a call. He does everything he can to save your plants if they’re salvageable.

Mike knows his stuff! I had to have a stump taken down to the ground and a magnolia in the front yard taken out as well. He is fast, knowledgeable, and efficient. He did an awesome job on my yard and was able to come out to my place within two days of calling him. He explained his techniques and is very committed to taking care of the trees: saving the ones that need to be saved and getting rid of the ones that cannot be saved. The best part: his prices — easily the lowest I’ve seen; coming from a professional who takes his clients seriously, I was in awe. I would and will recommend him to anyone who needs to have their trees taken care of.

I echo everything Scott said. We called Mike based on a single Unilocal review after we had some wind damage a few weeks back. He did an amazing job. The tropical storm this past week slowed him down, but he was very conscientious about letting us know when he would or would not be at our place. He trimmed the live oaks with their long-term growth pattern in mind, painted every cut, and his price was well below what we have paid another company with large green trucks for the past 10 years. I am very pleased with the results and plan to use Grows Tree Service for all future tree trimming.
