Two stars for having two lanes open on a Friday night. What a joke people with full baskets in the express checkout.

OK, but not quite as good as the one at Slaughter and Escarpment in the Circle C. area. It has what you need and usually is not as crowded as that one during game day.

Parking isn’t hard but the lack of customers is a testament to how much this location needs to improve. Veggies are wilted, fruit is squishy, the butchers meat selection is meager. By all means come here if you live west of the Y, but if there are other close options, go to them.

I try to avoid this HEB for a variety of reasons. Parking is crappy. It’s hard to merge into the right lane to enter certain times of the day if you are traveling East on 290 then onto 71. Coming the opposite direction on 71, I had a car accident(not my fault) that totaled my beloved Passat right in front of the entrance at the light. It just gets too crowded inside the store. There is a nice friendly older gentleman greeting customers directly in front of the entrance. He will talk to you about anything under the sun and maybe even flirt with your wife or GF too. Funny guy. I’m disappointed if he’s not working! My main point to the review today is to add this HEB to my Mexican Coke list. They also have HFCS free orange Fanta currently. Pretty nifty. And while we are at it — HEB Brands has a new(at least to me) product. HFCS free ketchup! This caused me to go straight to McDonald’s and buy some French Fries to try it out. I must say it’s quite good. Very little difference to Heinz but maybe just a tiny less salty in taste.

This HEB is the closest food distributor to my humble abode. My family and I call it «the trailer park HEB.» Oh so politically correct, I know. So the Pros: All the basics at super cheap prices Great candy/soda collection Bacon Ranch Pringles(sibling’s fave, not mine) Cons: Limited selection of health food/vitamins/protein power Occasionally questionable produce This HEB is like an old car. Or an ugly whore. Both work with the metaphor… It ain’t pretty, but it gets the job done.

This space used to contain a couple of vituperative reviews for an incident at this HEB Pharmacy that was blown out of proportion. Those reviews have since been removed by this reviewer. Bill Morris is the manager of this pharmacy. I went ‘stratus eruptus’ on him and his staff in the course of a review and an update for a single incident they could have handled far more professionally and with far less inconvenience to me. Sure, his staff didn’t use the best judgment or customer relations skills or provide the best customer service. But taking my bitchstream to Unilocal was not exactly good judgment on my part, either. They say it takes a big person to admit a mistake – and no, this is not about me. It’s about Bill. Today, my parents received a very sincere written letter in the snail mail from Bill apologizing for the actions of his staff, while still underscoring the record keeping requirements he must enforce. He also included a goodwill incentive for their continued patronage, which, since it does not benefit the reviewer, does not influence this review’s rating. I believe that, overall, this pharmacy deserves four stars for price and service. They aren’t perfect, but neither are the rest of us. Give them a try for your pharmacy business – and give them a chance to earn it.
