Just the name«Happy Buddha» evokes some nice imagery. Perhaps it makes one think happy Buddhist rice farmers cooking authentic Chinese food in their village. The name can make a person think of the Buddha figure with his big smile as if he’s just eating a pleasing scrumptious meal. Also it may make one think of their own Buddha-belly, happy after a fine meal in North Austin. Happy Buddha is none of those things. It is the stereotype of the cheap Chinese lunch buffet. Skin forming over the top of the items as they sit in their stainless steel buffet recepticals. All your favorites have been snatched up, leaving just a sauce glaze on the serving spoon. Eggrolls that may have just be cooked again from yesterday to give them a freshly cooked appearance. Honestly, if it’s cheap Chinese you’re looking for, just try the Panda Express at the other end of the shopping center.

I am a vermicelli lover and this is the place for me! It’s so cheap, so good, and they’re open till 10pm on weekdays so I can always get some late night noodle action! I haven’t tried anything else on the menu, just the Bun Ga, Bun Thit, Bun Ga Nuong, etc. anything on vermicelli is good for me! Would love to see different sauces instead of the standard hot chili sauce, maybe a pickled ginger sauce or sweet chili sauce. Love the soup too! The service is awesome, and the price is right!
