We were just in for the day visiting different food shops trucks etc. But the line thing we had to try before we left was this place. Worth the wait. They only had two choices but the timbre we got there art 8pm. But the seasonal choice was what i wanted anyways, bench was the chocolate cake and strawberry cream cheese frosting. Man they use fresh ingredients with good quality products. And the cake was so moist and full of dark chocolate intensity.

Tried to grab a cupcake tonight after a great meal, but these guys had their«open» sign lit up but their curtains closed at around 9PM. Were they closed? Did they close at 9 on a Saturday night? Fail to turn out the open sign? I watched two or three couples go up and stand at the window for a bit, then walk away confused. I stared at the sign hoping someone would want to take my money. I caught a glimpse of an eyeball passing behind a curtain, so I KNOW they were aware there were people outside wanting delicious cupcakey goodness. Sadly, none was to be had. I wish I could give a good review. I really do. But service and respect for customers is my number one thing. These folks showed none of either. I won’t be back. To any of their locations.

Being a natural cupcake lover, I may be biased with this review. But I do consider them to be one of the top places to grab cupcakes in Texas. The idea of a food truck is really cute and their staff are always very sweet. My personal faves are the red velvet and the carrot cake. My mom has never liked carrot cake, until she tried this place. That is definitely a big praise. One of my guilty pleasures. Its always a better day whenever I stop by.(:

Bummer! Such good cupcakes, but don’t order delivery I guess! I was counting on a delivery for Valentine’s Day and was promised the 10−12p window. My friend was home the whole time and they never showed. Finally called at 3pm and was told it had been delivered. It hadn’t. There was never a knock at the door, was not left at the doorstep, was not at the apartment office. The lady helping seemed hesitant to give me a refund nor offered anything to make the situation right. And as I read through other reviews about delivery on here, it seems this is an issue. Either get it right or maybe don’t offer the option? Also, there’s a $ 15 extended delivery fee for addresses that are well within central Austin. I think you just lost a few customers Hey Cupcake!

Such a cute concept. The cupcakes are Wildly overated… dry and generic. The frosting was good on some varieties. Meh!

Love this place. Ive had cupcakes at various days and times. Always fresh, flavorful and tasty. Big chocolate fan and their chocolate/chocolate does not disappoint. They have several food trailer locations around Austin. The lines do move fast so don’t let that intimidate you.

This food truck is a fun idea! I enjoyed the basic flavors because I’m not one to try anything crazy. The woman working was very polite and service was quick!

Great idea to have a food truck solely for cupcakes. I was hoping to try a specialty flavor but their menu is very basic. I got the red velvet cake which was very good. The cream cheese icing was a little sweeter than I’d like. Staff was polite and friendly.

Thought these cupcakes were delicious! Perfect sweetness in my opinion and reasonably price. Placed conveniently on south Congress Avenue, it’s definitely a place that everyone should stop by if they’re craving something sweet.

Hey Cupcake has a great location that makes it perfect for quickly grabbing a sweet snack on the go, and isn’t that the point of a cupcake? Portable cake! I’m a frosting fiend, and theirs just wasn’t great. I tried the regular cream cheese frosting and the strawberry frosting, and both were too runny, even on a cold day. Perhaps this is because they use a cream cheese base versus a butter base. I prefer buttercream and find it sets better than cream cheese frosting. The cakes(I tried chocolate and red velvet) were better than the frosting, though not the best I’ve had. The best description of the texture is crumbly. Sprinkles(the chain cupcakery) has moister cake.

Hey Cupcake! was among the first food trucks, especially dessert food trucks, nearly a decade ago, and so it was a place on my must-take-out-of-towners too. Fast forward several years and being a food truck alone is not sufficient to add any appeal to your business. The cupcake icing here is too thin, and the cake is just okay. For a food truck, the icing is especially too thin… even in the winter but especially when you’ve got people eating these outside on one of the 3 tables in 100+ degree weather. The price of $ 3 is more than Georgetown Cupcakes in DC, and not nearly as yummy. Also, the staff works on tips which seems like a cop-out on behalf of the owner. I understand leaving the tip jar there, but the fact that it says they work on tips makes me think they’re getting paid under minimum wage. This is Austin. Get outta here with that and pay your staff a fair wage. All that to say, this place is just a meh and unless you’ve got a reallll hankerin’ for a cupcake and can’t exit the one block radius on SoCo the truck’s parked in, I’d choose somewhere else for the financial and caloric hit.

Definitely my favorite cupcake place! Never jad a bad cupcake here! The pumpkinator is my absolute favorite! Love that they have seasonal items, it just makes them that much more delicious when you have to wait for them to return. They also do filled cupcakes and a box of mini cupcakes that are great for birthdays or just to snack on. The regular sized cupcakes are huge so you totally get your moneys worth. Love that they are out of a food truck too! Always a treat to get a cupcake from them!

This place is pretty good. I love the cupcake sample pack, so far I’ve been here twice and they did not disappoint. The cupcakes are a little pricey, but I’ve paid more for cupcakes that weren’t anywhere near as dee-lish.The last time I went I got the red velvet and the strawberry… they tasted like they should. I had to stick to just one because I tried eating both, and the flavors did not mix well.

Love that this food truck is conveniently located in SoCo so whenever you got that sweet tooth after dinner or lunch you can just walk on over and enjoy a cupcake(or two). I like that their menu isn’t too extensive so you don’t have to deal with a customer in front of you being indecisive as you wait patiently to get your hands on one of their cupcakes. I’d have to say out of all the ones I tried here, the Red Velvet gets the trophy. It was the most moist and the cream cheese frosting wasn’t too overpowering. The other ones that I tried that I’m not a fan of(hence I knocked off a star) were the Vanilla Dream and the 24 Carrot. Cake was too dry. :( Side note: If you order the Sampler, do not assume that you get the full-sized cupcakes. These are teeny 1-bite baby cupcakes that you get.

Had a sweet tooth craving and since this was close by, we decided to try the red velvet cupcake. The overall reviews of this place are pretty spot on. The cupcake was a little dense and didn’t have much of a flavor. The only thing that saved this review from being 2 stars was the the cream cheese icing, which saved the day. You definitely can go to better cupcake places, but if you’re needing a sugar fix, this will do the trick.

If you know me, you know I LOVE cupcakes. So how could I visit Austin without trying one from the famous, Hey Cupcake! I was able to kill two birds with one stone — have a cupcake, and visit a food truck. I’ve seen complaints about the price, $ 3.50 per cupcake is about what I’d expect to pay. While it was a good way to end an awesome sightseeing weekend, the Red Velvet cupcake that I tried was just ok. The cream cheese frosting was good. It was creamy and not too sweet, but the cake itself wasn’t much different from what I might pick up at a grocery store bakery. I’m glad I tried this Austin tradition and encourage you to try it for yourself, but don’t expect it to be the best you’ve ever had.

Great service and amazing cupcakes! Whether you live in Austin or are just visiting you’ve gotta check this place out. The 24 Carot(carrot cake) made my day. Can’t wait to come back to Austin to try all the selection of flavors. =)

The cupcakes are really good. I’ve tried most of the flavors and some of the seasonal flavors too. Unfortunately they are pretty pricey. It was like $ 7 bucks plus tip for two cupcakes. So I don’t go very often. And on the subject of tips… I think it’s weird Hey Cupcake makes it’s employees work for tips. All they are doing is putting a cupcake in a box. So I’m sure a lot of people don’t tip. I do if the person is nice, but there’s no real service being provided, just buying/selling of a product. Like I don’t tip the cashier at Target to ring up my stuff. How about you just pay them more and take out the tip jar?

Either we’re making bad cupcakes in NYC… or the reviewers on here have become spoiled with excellent cupcakes in the South, because I thought my cupcakes were excellent. Got the Strawberry(Sweetberry) Cupcake and the Coconut(CocoLoco) Cupcake(special that day), and couldn’t decide which I liked better as I thought they were both excellent. And I love that the frosting on the my cupcakes is cream-cheese-based, blended with real strawberries and real coconut, as opposed to that nasty pure-sugar-mixed-with-water and dry frosting that Magnolia in NYC and most other cupcake places in NYC uses. And both cupcakes were moist… not dry and crumbly like Magnolia’s. So maybe my cupcake standards are low, but I thought these were excellent, and it’s near impossible to find my favorite flavor, Strawberry cake, so I have to give them a high rating.

I’m not a huge fan of cupcakes, but I decided to stop by here after dinner for some dessert. I ordered the Double Dose, which was no brainer, since I love anything that is related to chocolate. This is the first cupcake I’ve purchased at one of the many trailers in Austin, but I thought it was yummy. It was moist and I loved the icing on top, which was a little heavy, but still good. I finished it pretty quickly, and it was fairly small for its price. I think it’s one of those places you can try once in a while, but I might visit some other Cupcake places before coming back here and seeing how they compare. It’s definitely a place worth checking out on South Congress, especially if you are craving some sugary.

Honestly, these cupcakes were okay. Sort of tasted like something you can buy at HEB — I mean, decent and delicious and does the job if you’re craving something sweet after your meal, yes, but sort of expensive and not that moist and not too special in terms of texture and flavors. Also, a bit too much icing. There are definitely better cupcake vendors in Austin.

The cupcakes are exceptional. As a baker, I admire the flavor and texture of the cupcakes. Although they are about $ 3 a pop, it’s well worth the money. I recommend the strawberry cupcake. It is incredibly moist and full of strawberry flavor; you can taste that they use fresh strawberries instead of an artificial flavor or syrup.
