Hilton Garden Inn Austin Downtown / Convention Center

Good location, close to the Austin Visitor Center. Parking is a little pricey $ 30 overnight parking at the hotel. The receptionist was helpful and the main lobby is really nice! Our room was a good size with a large comfy bed and most importantly clean! We didn’t eat at the hotel but there’s a lot of options close by, and you are close to the metro and downtown.

I give this hotel just 2 stars, because of the terrible issue that they created at the first night. When we arrived we were told that they have been overbooked and they don’t have any room for us! Although I had booked and confirmed through Expedia and we had paid the whole 3 nights! So they sent us to another hotel and asked us to come back to the hotel the next day! One of the staff that was working that night and apparently was the superior one, was so rude and impolite. Fortunately we didn’t see her the next nights…
Anyway, moving in just a short 3 days trip from one hotel to another was a terrible headache for us. However, I should admit that the hotel is a very nice one and its location is perfect, so convenient.

Had an issue with the valet manager where he blatantly lied. Tried to get in touch with the general manager for a resolution. Left 3 messages with no one ever returning my call. I spoke with the front desk and their response was «the valets are a separate company and we aren’t responsible.» Complete BS! I don’t recommend this place.

Four stars for location, service, décor, cleanliness just about all the boxes checked except for price. It may not be the priciest hotel in downtown Austin, but with the room rate and daily valet parking, it’s pricey enough.
The location is perfect for anyone who wants the «Austin experience.» The hotel sits right off of 6^th street, perfect for grabbing a great meal or catching a good band in one of the many clubs. The service when you pull up is friendly and quick. They valet park your vehicle, grab your luggage and bring it in to the check-​in stations and right on up to your room.
The hotel itself is very clean and the décor is super nice. Rooms are likewise very clean and appointed well. The only gripe would be the noisy air conditioner.
If you’re on a business trip and you need a place close to the conference center, the Hilton Garden Inn is a great place to stay but if you’re a family of 4 on a budget, I’d somewhere else.

This hotel may be convenient to 6^th street, but we had the luck of getting a disgusting room. Our room had ants in the shower and sink and the sleeping quarters smelled like vomit literally. This is now a second bad experience staying at a Hilton. Also, the parking fee is outrageous at $ 30 a night minimum two nights according to valet person. The front desk woman yelled at us when we were exiting the elevators to leave through the back entrance saying we could not go that way. When I asked house keeping for more towels they said none were available at the moment. Being a holiday weekend they should have been better prepared. Hilton you should really consider quality versus quantity. This hotel doesn’t even deserve one star in my opinion.

The valet manager was helpful in getting my issue resolved promptly and professionally. For that I am very grateful and feel that my experience needs to be bumped up a few stars. The hotel itself was solid and in a convenient location but the valet experience was pretty disappointing.

An alright hotel located near Downtown Austin. Rooms come stocked with a fridge and large LG TV’s.
Hotel Wifi is unbelievably slow in the room and DC’s a lot so you gotta walk to the 10^th floor lobby area which is a bit of a pain. (If this place had amazing Wifi and nothing else I’d bump the rating up to 4 but sadly the in-​room performance sucks.) Breakfast on the 18^th floor is above average and offers a variety of hot & cold dishes.

Nice hotel, very comfortable and the staff was very nice. This hotel is very well managed.
Other people commented the hotel was in an iffy area. We didn’t have any trouble though. Mostly used the back door that led to Easy Tiger and 6^th Street.
The restaurant/​lounge has an excellent view, and the fitness center has nice equipment.

Friendly staff. Clean room. Fantastic location. Tiny pool. Amazing gym. Decent food (but that doesn’t matter when you have amazing food nearby) walking distance to sixth street. Or you can take an Über to south congress if that’s more your scene.
I would come back to this location for sure.

Great hotel, centrally located, very attentive staff, lots of areas to work or sit with a laptop or read throughout the hotel.
Lots of helpful things — individual check-​in desks instead of a big bar desk (makes it go faster and is more private), fresh fruit water and cookies in the lobby, snack and travel goods store downstairs, big rooms with solid amenities. I’ll also write that the heating was unexpectedly fantastic; I visited when it was 28 degrees out and there was the possibility of snow, and for the first time in Austin I cranked the heat in my hotel.
If you’re from suburbia, the neighborhood might be sketchy, but it was just fine for a San Franciscian like me. Make sure to check out Easy Tiger right behind the hotel for outstanding baked goods, beer, and pretzels!

Excellent rooms and service for our massive group of friends visiting Austin. We had almost 30 people that came up, and not one of us had a bad experience. Walkable distance to the main strip, bars, and restaurants. They charged us an exorbitant amount for parking though, which should’ve been complimentary given all the rooms we booked. Oh well! Still a great hotel to stay in. Highly recommended!

The bar is «so uncool.» It is like a brightly lit breakfast bar at a cheap hotel. You can’t even see out the windows from the glare! The wines suk, and drinks are pedestrian. I cannot believe they have a bar on the 18^th floor and you think you’re in the basement!

I’ve never stayed in a smaller room with bigger furniture. I’m not sure how they fit all of this furniture into this tiny room. This is my first time in Austin. When I wandered out of the hotel, I was on a frontage road by an underpass. I walked toward what looked less skeezy and some strange dude started hurrying toward me asking for a cigarette. I don’t really know any better, because I’m unfamiliar with the area, but walking out to that strange kind of urban-​lite desolation (off ramps, gas stations, parking lots, unmarked buildings, etc.) wasn’t inspiring.
One pro is that the small floor plan means you’re not walking miles from the elevator to your room.
Overall, this place is adequate, but the least nice adequate hotel I’ve stayed at.

Once inside the hotel I felt safe. Once out-​side the hotel I had to keep my eyes peeled for homeless people, suspicious people or any hoodlum that might rob me. The hotel sits adjacent to 35 freeway, which makes for an unpleasant site of hefty afternoon traffic.
As for the service, the staff is very very accommodating. Upon check-​in I was greeted nicely by a staff member, Arvin (I think was his name). He kindly upgraded my room from a queen to a king size bed for gratis and he was also generous enough to provide me with a voucher for complimentary breakfast the next day — he was awesome and made my stay enjoyable. The upgrade was nice, room was tidy and the cleaning staff still provided me towels and shampoo at my door, even when I posted the «do not disturb» sign the entire time I was there.
The Hilton Garden Inn is about 5 – 10 minutes from the Austin Convention Center. A few good eats do surround the hotel (i.e. Koriente, Daruma) but downtown has a lot of great eats and is also in walking distance. The price I paid to stay two nights was not worth the money, especially for the location but I would stay for cheaper. If I wasn’t in a time crunch, I probably would have shopped around more for a prime location at a prime price.

I generally enjoyed this hotel. The location is quite good — on the eastern end of 6^th street (well, actually between 5^th and 6^th) so it’s quieter. My room overlooked I-​35 but I didn’t have any noise problems. Said room was of good size, with a nice couch, good TV with plenty of channel choices. The bed was not very good, though, and was a big weak spot. Probably the worst part. It just became lumpy and uncomfortable as the night went along. WiFi in the rooms was free and fast. My room had a microwave and mini-​fridge too, as well as a desk, but oddly enough absolutely NO paper/​pen, which is kind of odd and, in my case, quite inconvenient. Overall, it was all clean.
Was here for a conference and the meeting rooms were comfortable. Lunches each day, in the restaurant (18^th floor), were quite good, and had nice views of the city/​Capitol/​UT stadium.
There’s a small but nice pool with waterfall. The gym is of good size, but I didn’t use it because you’re about 5 minutes from the trail along the river, which is great for running and biking.
Check in and check out were quick. My only qualm was that we asked the valet for a taxi to the airport and they clearly had a hookup just sitting there (not a standard taxi) that ended up costing more than it should have (no meter). Seems to me the guy was in their pocket, which left me with a bad taste of the hotel upon exit.

The hotel staff was very friendly. The rooms were clean and well kept. What I didn’t like about the room was the tiny bathroom. I felt a bit claustrophobic in there with how cramped the space was.
The price per room was competitive but on par for what you get. We scored a deal here while we stayed and having status with Hilton is always a plus to staying here. The location was great and a really easy walk to Rainey street or the 6^th/​4^th street bar hopping.
The parking is valet only and runs about $ 30/​night. There is a bar and restaurant on the 18^th floor with great views of downtown. They have happy hour from 4 to 6pm — so be sure to grab some friends and some beers and check out the views from up there. The hotel pool here is tiny… I mean really tiny. Don’t expect to hang out with a group of people in the pool here. There is also no hot tub… which was a bit of a bummer.

We have stayed here for the last couple of years when its time to play on sixth street for a weekend. The location could not be better. Sixth street is pretty much a step away from the side entrance.
The hotel is always clean and the staff has never been anything but fantastic. The rooms are small but the beds are comfortable. The room furniture is a bit old, especially the old and uncomfortable fold out couch. The bathrooms are very small and you would expect more from a Hilton. The toilet seat and cover of are of cheapest plastic. You can’t even sit there to put shoes on because the toilet cover buckles if you try. (No…I’m not 300 pounds).
What would make this place four stars? Make the room match the price or make the price match the room. Presently, it’s a little steep for what you get.

The location of this hotel is what gives it the fourth star — everything about it is pretty a-​ok, but for its close proximity to 6^th Street and the Austin Convention Center, it makes me a fan.
Friendly staff, clean rooms, good shower heads — what’s not to like? I’d recommend this HGI to anyone staying in the downtown Austin area.
