Farewell, Hot Slices. I shall have fond memories of sharing your 20-inch pizzas with my boyfriend during the first years of our relationship. You were truly an Austin treasure whose loss will be mourned by many.

Good(not great) pizza, nice atmosphere, WEIRD people. Also didn’t seem that clean… But good(not great) pizza.

Went back to Hot Slices again to try their pizza… and it wasn’t burnt! Their pizza was very good and their garlic knots are still deeeeeelish!

What should I do? Should I tell you how awesome their Mediterranean and BBQ Chicken Pizzas are? Should I tell you that their 20″ pizza is freakin huge? Should I tell you how addicting their sauce is? Should I tell you that this place needs to be remodeled? What should I do?(Lebron commercial) This place is awesome. I can eat here for days in a row unlike eating at like a pizza chain. A recent friend of mine called it pricey, but think again my friend. Let’s do some math(I really did this to prove it to her): The Domino’s 5−5−5 deal is 3 medium pizza 1 topping each for around $ 17(includes tax) and a total pizza area of 432 for all 3 pizzas. A 20″ special pizza from here has like 10 toppings and is $ 23(includes tax) and a total pizza area of 400. And it’s flavor is at least 10 times better than Domino’s. it’s about the same value. Slices and Ices. Do it.

I was definitely craving pizza on such a [sarcasm] terrible second day of school. [/sarcasm] Came in and smelled the delicious pizza with huge NY style slices. I eyed the artichoke and spinach pizza and gave it a try. WITH a garlic knot. Carbs overload, and I don’t care! Waited for a few minutes, and got my hot slice out! I took a bite and my eyes got so big because it was DELICIOUS. Ricotta cheese was underneath the goody-ness of spinach, crisp artichoke and tomatoes. The garlic knot was good, but it could’ve been better. They had made fresh new ones after I gorged down my meal, and I must say I was a wee bit disappointed. Nonetheless, I will come back to try the pasta, since my food buddies said the pasta is delicious. Hot Slices, see you another day!

Mm, great place to go to for a slice of pizza. Especially if you love New York-style pizza, which I do! Honestly, I only came here a few days ago for the first time since it changed from Slice & Ices, but there isn’t anything different about the pizza. One thing though: as I sat waiting for my pizza, I saw flies hovering around the slices that were in the display case. Yummy.

What? No. This place has changed its name to «Hot Slices?» First of all. Not a name for a restaurant. Name of a porno. You know, one where the pizza delivery guy wheels his midnight blue Oldsmobile Cutlass up on the lawn of the Omega House, walks in with the pizza box at waist level and asks who ordered the«14-inch pepperoni.» In its previous incarnation it was most of the things I required in near-campus eats: Right across the street, would take care of my hunger cheaply for a few hours… and pizza. Once I discovered they had hot dogs(w/cheese) on the menu I started getting that. Heaven. A few turn-offs however. The food isn’t one of them. While I’ve had better New York-style pizza, the fare here is still above average. But while I understand the independent business may need to charge a few extra cents on a credit card purchase the idea of that is pretty irksome as I rarely carry much cash. The real thing where they lose me is the hours. Your dive-parlor is shuttered by 10 p.m. on weeknights. Really, guys? Really? College students don’t stop drinking/blazing and getting hungry just because they have class the next day. And this place, situated perfectly between the 40 Acres and the biggest cesspool of irresponsibility and bad decisions(West Campus), should recognize the gold mine its sitting on. Why the only pizza place in that location isn’t open until 3 Fridays and Saturdays is a mystery and a total forsaking of bank. And I don’t know if she’s there, but they once employed a female dough slinger who wore tank tops and didn’t shave her pits. Get out of the kitchen area. Gross. Plus with the lame name change they took my beloved hot dogs off the menu. Hottie McSlice, look in the mirror that spans the length of your dining room. Do some soul searching and realize your untapped earning potential. Bring the old menu back along with the old name. And some sanitation. If you do I’ll give you another chance when I’m back in Austin, promise. But right now your onanistic visions of what great, authentic, independent, unrivaled stuff you are is clouding reality: You’re just screwing yourself.

First off I only give this place 4 stars instead of 5 because of the lack of selection. I only eat 3 different things here, the ricotta cheese and sausage, pepperoni slice. The pepperoni with extra cheese, and the garlic knots.(DAMN those knots are slammin!!!) With that being said, the things I just mentioned are FREAKINGUNBELIEVABLE!!! I have never had pizza this good in my entire life. Ever! For under $ 10 I can get 4 garlic knots, 1 drink, and 2 slices of pie! Are you serious?!? Thats dinner for 2 at under $ 10.00. With the added bonus of being ridiculously good pizza, and you got a hot slicer for life out of me!!! I have payed WAY more for shitty pizza downtown by the slice, so to me, this place is it. If you want good NYC style pizza by the slice, go here and you will be thanking me later. ;-)

The best pizza in town, especially the cheese. This place converted me to cheese pizza. You have to try it. And the icy lemonade is a perfect complement. Gene the owner is such a nice guy, great fun to talk with and always so nice to my little boy.(It’s his favorite place to eat, always his first choice and it doesn’t take much arm-twisting to get me to take him there.) Not so great to go there just before closing, though, it’s highly variable then. Sorry Gene, we will always call it Slices and Ices! Oh, and to Lindsay, re. the parking — it’s the easiest place to park at on the drag! They have a dedicated parking lot in the back! We didn’t know about it for a while either, so I feel your pain… And to ‘ol Jackson R. lurking down there in the bowels of these reviews, giving this place only 1 star after walking out without even ordering any food… you are a dork. This is how New York style pizza is done, and in fact, this is how they do it in most walk-up pizza joints in Rome. Italy, that is. They cook it once, then put it out, and when you order a slice, they heat it up super fast in a super hot oven, and it’s really crisp and really good.

The pizza joint formerly known as Slices & Ices is now… Hot Slices. Despite the laughably lame name(I mean really, c’mon), the pizza is exactly the same, the amazing garlic knots are still there, and the place itself is as seedy, and decidedly un-lame as it’s always been. The only noticeable change is the addition of pasta and salads. The new menu now features a fairly ambitious list of pastas, from the classic spaghetti and meatballs, lasagna, and ravioli, and the very tasty penne alla vodka. Slices & Ices(place formerly known as…) has always been my favorite eatery on the drag, and still is. I’m not sure if the new name will ever grow on me, but now I have even more reason to keep coming back.

I only take off one star because of the friggin’ parking! Since a lot of my family is from PA and NJ, they all prefer the NY pizza… Anytime someone comes here to visit we usually order this place to go… The garlic knots are unreal… I actually like that more than the pizza but the pizza is great… forget about it! :) My only mistake one time was ordering the pie to go and I got there right when it was done and by the time I got it home, all the hot cheese had slid to one side because of how I positioned the box in the car and that sucked but it was my fault, I should have just waited a while… oh well Their ices are great, I really like the lemonade icy slush, I have tried the berry and the coffee ones, too, and those are all good in their own way… This is one of our favorite pizza places! It is NY pizza all the way!

If you want to find a better slice of pizza in Austin(or even NYC) you can fogeddaboutit. Slices & Ices offers huge, greasy New York-style pizza on the cheap. I stopped bothering with the fancy toppings and you should, too. Become a purist and have a plain cheese slice. You’ll never be able to order anything else again. The crust is perfectly crunchy and there’s just enough tomato sauce to balance out the stringy, melted cheese. If you’re one of those people that sops up the grease with a napkin or expects a decked out interior, don’t bother coming here. It’s rough around the edges, worn in and I love it all the more. Checkerboard floors and a retro neon clock that says«Time to eat» are badass enough for me. They recently started offering pasta dishes like fettuccine alfredo and penne a la vodka for under $ 5. They’re even going to change their name to Hot Slices, but thankfully the management and staff are remaining the same. Sadly, their selection of ices has diminished(they only offer lemonade now — their mocha was phenomenal) and they no longer offer desserts. But the owner is a down-to-earth, friendly kinda guy who, at the risk of sounding creepy, I find strangely comforting. Slices is my little piece of the Big Apple in Austin — and I’ll fight you in a New York minute if you even try to make a case for Home Slice.

GREAT pizza at a great price! You can get a large single topping that can feed 4 people for $ 15. That’s is awesome for a good pizza. The slices are huge, the good kind you have to fold in half to eat. The shop is tiny, so we usually get it to go, but when we don’t have kids in tow we will dine there for an extra treat.

Everyone swears by some pizza joint in this town, and this is not mine. BUT this is my favorite place to get pizza when I am at work. The crust is extra thin, and more often than not the crust on the pizza will be cooked in such a way that that it can’t support the toppings. That’s when its Pizza taco time, no shame in the pizza taco. They make a killer Sicilian crust Eggplant Parmesan, and their Mediterranean is LOADED to the MAX with delicious veggies.

As I was eating Slices & Ices for lunch today — the second time this week — I knew I should update my review. I realized they really deserve five stars. I missed Slices & Ices like crazy when I moved away last year, so much so that it was the first place I went when I moved back. I actually work even closer now, so I go more often! Yay! The pizza is best when it’s hot, right out of the oven, but I’ll take Slices & Ices any way I can get it.

Went here with one of our interns and I loved it! I had the pepperoni and Sausage pizza with ricotta cheese under the mozz… awesome! I had a cherry ice drink and it was like frozen kool aid-yummy! I took my vegetarian sweetie with me a couple of days later but he was not feeling the cheese calzone. He would have liked it to have veggies and seasoning in it but it was just cheese. It was tasty cheese though. I definately plan to go back when i have a pizza craving. I like the big floppy style and the staff was friendly! Music was too loud though… but oh well.

Not quite sure what to think. First time was in-store Mediterranean slice & it was PHENOMENAL! Perfectly crisp crust & full of flavor. Second was a pepperoni take-out. Greasy & lacking in flavor. Blech. I’m not giving up though. Maybe it’s an in-store only joint???

Best NYC style pie in town(in my not so humble opinion) The place is just a pie shop with a counter and a couple of tables but the pizza is fantastic. Grab a pie and a couple of garlic knots and you’ll be fat and happy. Large floppy slices that you can squeeze the grease off. My only regret is I wish they had beer, but the Texas is not the easiest place to get a liqor license so I understand whey it’s not worth it.

Slices & Ices is a little hidden slice of heaven. Been here many times and it’s great 99% of the time. I usually get one specialty slice and a cheese slice and I’m stuffed. It’s quality NY style pizza. I’ve been to a bunch of pizza places, even outside the U.S., and Slices hold their own against some of the best. It’s convenient to the neighborhood and the prices aren’t very high. They have a giant cheese pizza — like 20″ for about $ 11 that works great for a few people. Go ahead and get 2 of em for pick up. Parking is behind the store off San Antonio st. and there’s a backdoor entrance.

Being from New Jersey, I was worried that I wasn’t going to be able to find any good pizza down here. but Slices & Ices is one of my new favorites. Their pizza reminds me of home, which is no easy feat. To me, the sauce makes or breaks the pizza — and they have a pretty solid sauce base. If you ever get a chance to stop in, I’d recommend a slice of plain if it hasn’t been sitting out all day or a slice of their white with tomato, spinach and artichoke. Pretty tasty.
