Just arrived here Wednesday morning and looks like it is out of business. No product, no lights, nothing.

This place has delicious cake doughnuts. Don’t miss out on the cinnamon twists either. Staff is very friendly and has great recommendations.

I know it’s tough to mess up doing donuts, but this place does it perfectly. Soft, good sizes and whatever flavors you’re in the mood for. Parking is rough, but you won’t be in there for long… there’s not a lot of room to mingle inside.

Come to Howdy Donut and try, I swear to god try your hardest not to fall in love with this spot. Aside from best name ever, which is just stellar lone star state marketing, they may have perfected the glazed donut. Puffed to perfection with the breath of baby angels and then covered in the slickest of sugary glazes, this is the best donut I’ve ever had. The mini kolaches are the bomb dot com. I’ve had kolaches all over this state, from the big giant unruly ones along the country roads to the ones that are too damn long and then those balls of crap from the so-called«Kolache Factory.» None hold a candle to these little darlings from Howdy Donut. The staff is always awesome, the coffee is hot and they know how to bake the hell out of the state breakfast food of Texas.

I can’t go anywhere else for Kolaches now. Make sure you get the croissant kolaches and have them warmed up! Flaky, buttery, melt-in-your-mouth deliciousness! Only complaint is that they’re closed Sundays.

My husband and I went here twice during our recent vacation because it was close to our hotel. Both times the service was very friendly. Donuts were small and light so I suggest getting more than one if you are actually hungry… I made that mistake the first time. They aren’t very inexpensive though so it’s no big deal. If i lived near here I’d go often because of the price and quality quite good.

Mmmmmm… nothing quite like warm donuts and kolaches for breakfast. The sausage kolaches are fantastic. Highly recommend the spicy sausage ones; just enough kick to get your day going and when warm, the crust is sleek, warm, chewy and buttery soft. Yum.

Nice little family-owned donut shop with great donuts and coffee. Even found a few free donut holes in my bag when I sat down to eat my donuts and drink my coffee.

Their parking?! Woof. Their kolaches and blueberry donuts… I mean… HEAVEN! I used to live right by this place, so I had a serious jalapeño and cheese kolache addiction/obsession. I revisited my old stomping grounds this past weekend… wishing I never temporarily said goodbye. I never noticed the parking because I used to walk over, but since I drove here this past weekend…4 stars just because there’s literally maybe five spots for three business packed inside that little area. four business, if Touch of Fire or any other food truck is parked out to the side like it used to be.

I entered Howdy Donut on this rainy SXSW morning feeling hungover, caffeine deprived, and hungry. Since walking through the door, this quaint little establishment has taken care of me like a grandmother does a baby — with smiles, warmth, and food. I ordered two donuts, a kolache, and a small coffee and payed less than 5 dollars. I opened my bag and found 4 Donut Holes thrown in FORFREE. I saw the lady working do the same for each constomer behind me. The donuts were soft and perfectly sweet. The kolache was buttery and amazing. I often feel that restaurants around here spend more time on their Instagram page than on their menu. Costomers are so stimulated by the gimmicks and atmosphere sorrounding the place that the food and service come second, like an after thought. Howdy Donut is guilty of no such thing, graciously offering delicious and reasonably priced food. I’m coming back — with friends.

Could have done without the attitude so early in the morning, but as a service industry worker I understand that everyone has their days. I guess I only come when this employee has bad days. No complimentary donut holes with my kolaches today, but hey, no complaints about something I didn’t pay for. I was asked if I wanted my kolaches heated. I said yes. They weren’t. I may have simply asked if it was possible to reheat them if I hadn’t felt so rushed out. I probably wouldn’t have thought as much of the service since it was busy, but after standing in line and observing others receiving the same sour attitude, I feel like it rubbed off on me. However, I give Howdy Donut four stars because the majority of my experiences are quick and friendly, everything is cheap, and the spicy kolaches are THEFREAKINGSHIT. I will obviously return. Oh, if you go to enjoy the deliciousness, be warned: parking sucks. If you do get a spot, be careful getting out.

Conviently located on the corner of Congress and Riverside with 3 or 4 bus routes passing by, it makes it easy to buy a dozen donuts for your co-workers to consume. If you want cheap donuts this is the place to go. Now they don’t have good hours but I figure as long as they are opened in the morning that’s fine by me. This is your average donut place, nothing new or fancy. Parking lot is small and you have to wait for cars to get out to get a spot. I never encountered any such problem but I thought I give a heads up that it may be potential problem.

This is a really great donut & kolache stop. I’m not a huge donut person, but I come here when I need to grab goodies to brown-nose at the office & pick up my breakfast sammy. People like you more and overlook your errors more when you feed them things coated in sugar or stuffed with sausage and cheese I’ve found. So I can credit this place for making my work environment quite happy on occasion! As per my tip — They do accept credit /debit cards but you can’t add a tip to an electronic transaction, so be courteous and bring in some cash. Their donuts are fresh, their cake donuts are very good and moist(my favesies) and their kolaches are good(small or large sizes). My favorite thing here is their giant breakfast sandwich — with eggs and bacon and cheese on a croissant roll. I have them heat it up for me and it’s about $ 3.00, so very affordable. That croissant is fluffy and buttery, the cheese is melty, the eggs are yummy… and bacon is bacon. It feels like Mom whipped it up for you in the kitchen just to start your morning off right… Inside is no-frills, quaint and clean. It’s a perfect place to pick up your breakfast on the go. My most recent order was a dozen kolaches, a dozen donuts, ½ dozen donut holes ringing in at $ 17.00 — so it’s affordable to bribe the office with! *The parking lot is small and a bit awkwardly shaped, so just be careful as you back up to get back onto Congress… Depending on which slot you’ve parked in, there are poles behind you, watch out!!!*

For some reason, there aren’t a whole lot of doughnut places in my neck of the woods. I’m not a huge fan of Krispy Kreme(too sugary), Gordough’s is great but quite expensive(at $ 5 per doughnut), and HEB doesn’t always have the greatest selection. My neighborhood also hasn’t been christened with a Shipley’s nor Round Rock Donuts, unless of course you count the gas stations that sell them. On a morning where I was feeling especially altruistic toward my fellow colleagues for working on a Saturday, I decided doughnuts would be a nice treat. Then I remembered Howdy Donut! It’s a cute little place. I picked a dozen assorted doughnuts and they had the typical choices you’d expect: cinnamon crumble, chocolate-coconut glazed, powdered sugar, pink sprinkles, etc. It was $ 8.50 for a dozen, which also came with a complimentary bag of glazed doughnut holes. Pretty straight forward. The doughnuts were a hit at the office. The yeast doughnuts were nice and fluffy; the cake doughnuts were savory and moist. They certainly were not the best doughnuts I’ve ever tried, but quite tasty nonetheless.

Very yummy simple donuts. They were fresh and cheap. As with most bakeries, the hours are limited to morning/lunch.

I am a bit of a donut and kolache fanatic. I can’t imagine having one without the other, and at least once a week my significant other and I decide we can’t live a minute longer without fried dough and sausages for breakfast. I’ve searched high and low in this fine city to find the best kolache/donut combination, and after years of tireless research and no less than 5bs on my belly, I give you my winner. The donuts are wonderful in their standard-ness. They don’t try to be anything silly or over the top. They’re just good. Great, really. Especially if you’re a fan of sour cream donuts. The kolaches are where I hoot and holler. The dough is beautiful yellow, reminiscent of the yolks from whence it came. The sausage is savory and mellow, while the cheese is just right. When I came back to Austin after a month out of town, it was the first kolache I got my hands on.

I was on Unilocal the other day and noticed this place as one of the new hot businesses. Barring the fact I live in Leander — I’m still on the lookout for a real GOOD Kolache(real meaning not necessarily the cheap wienies covered in good bread masking itself as a kolache). So I read the reviews and decided to take a long drive down to see if this is what I have been looking for. The large spicy and non-spicy kolaches are definitely not wearing masks. The links as well as the bread around it were heaven in my mouth. Then I packed in some donuts to see if I made the gas/mileage worth the trip. I tried a maple cake and a regular glazed donut. Both were absolutely tasty. The glazed donut was like air and just dissolved in my mouth. No need to be concerned about me, please. No seriously. I live far enough away & won’t let myself get fat by eating all of their delicious goodness –but I will definitely go back and they are definitely high on my list for one the best of’s for kolaches and donuts I’ve found in the ATX and surrounding areas. Oh and like others have mentioned — I too had a few little freebies in my bag when I left. Yes, it was well worth the drive!

Like some sort of Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory, for almost a full year Howdy Donut sat at the corner of Congress and Riverside with its huge sign and promises of delicious treats, but no one ever went in and no one ever came out. So, to drive by and see the Grand Opening banner was almost like getting my very own golden ticket. Unfortunately, there were not the magic fields of edible flowers and chocolate rivers that I figured they must be constructing during the unbelievably long lead-up to opening day, but it was still a very nice little donut shop. All of our items were very fresh and tasty, and the service was friendly. After so many months of waiting, did Howdy Donut live up to the hype? In the words of Willy Wonka: «Charlie, don’t forget what happened to the man who suddenly got all the donuts he he always wanted.» «What happened?» «He lived happily ever after.»
