The churros are just ok not as good as others hyped them up to be. I’m from Mexico, where churros come from, and was anticipating them to taste better. There’s another place close by that has delicious authentic Mexican churros called Churro Co. Next time I crave churros I’ll go there instead.

I visitedI Love Churros today as part of Austin’s Truck and Trailer food festival, Truck By TruckWest. The signature dish for the food competition was Chilorio tacos served with refried beans and red onions AND Churros with cajeta(Mexican Carmel). This was the BOMB! I’ll start with the taco: For this competition, the chef thoughtfully chose miniature corn tortillas for his Chilorio taco. Typically he serves them on flour, as the region of Northern Mexico they are from traditionally uses flour tortillas. But, to place a sophisticated foot forward for this competition he went with a locally crafted, flavorful corn tortilla that did not disappoint. I have, of late, been presented with a number of pork stewed tacos in this food festival. As I am a big fan of the stewed pork taco in all of its variations, regional and personal to chefs, I have enjoyed them pretty much without exception. Now, the Chilorio taco is tempered with a light layer of re-fried beans as well as the meat. and THIS, is a good and talented variation that made these babies stand out above the competition. Smooth, fresh cooked re-fried beans, with some quality lard added for creaminess I’m assuming, lend a texture that is very satisfying and in a flavor sense, unifying to the dish. And the simple addition of purple pickled onions marinaded in I don’t know what but I like it! Only add to the positive flavor composition of these excellent tacos. I recommend them without reservation. And the Churros. What can i even say about churros that you don’t already know and that hasn’t already been said? They’re freakin’ CHURROS man! They are the badass, funnel-cake-style, flavor sensation from south of the border that everybody can love! It’s a bigger, neater-shaped donut with an eggier, more custardy batter/dough that fries into a heavenly crispy, hot, chewy magnificence that you have to try in order to understand. And topped with CAJETAS!!! Man, this is the sugary wonderland of flavor glory that you didn’t even KNOW you were missing. My proverbial hat is off to this one man wrecking-crew and his excellent little trailer with it’s perfect little bites of awesome food. Well done, Sir! Well Done!

I love churros too and I went twice when they happened to be closed and third time hoping if would be the charm. On my mind I had the awesome thoughts of my younger years. An old man selling fresh fried churros from a kettle on the banks of the Bufadora in Ensenada Baja California, A small stand in Mexico City’s Zocalo selling them to you warm in a paper bag and a border town school fair that a parent sold them fresh off the stove. I never had gotten the idea of the evolution of stuffing churros with filling but as soon as I saw that the churros were actually pre made and refrigerated/frozen it all became clear. Yes this place will freshly fry them but the experiences I enjoyed had fresh batter. And there’s a big loss in the delivery here. Almost like the frozen funnel cakes at flea circus. I know that in this foodie Mecca there’s something locally that is fresh that doesn’t rely on flavored fillings in thier churros

I don’t know much about churros. To be honest, I’ve only had them one other time, and they were from Jack in the Box… yeah. But I know five-star, deep fried deliciousness when I taste it. HOT, FRESH, COVEREDINSUGARANDCINNAMON, DELICIOUSNESS. SO. GOOD. Also had one filled with caramel — YESSSSSS. Bring cash. Use hand signals if you don’t speak Spanish. JUSTDOIT.

So I’d like to consider myself a churro aficionado, and this little stand, has THEBEST churros I’ve ever wrapped my lips around, and getting them filled is definitely the way to go. Perhaps next time I’ll learn how to say the filling types in spanish because I got different flavors than I had requested, however they were all so good I didn’t care at all lol. Can’t wait to go back. I’ve been telling everyone I know about this little gem. It’s easy to pass by while driving so keep your eyes peeled.

Churros! I wish drop the f-bomb just to tell you just how awesome this churros trailer is. Remember that mexican bakery on lamar? Old and stale, forget about it… I Love Churros: Fresh outta-the-lard-rolled-in-cinnamon-and-sugar-AMAZING. Have you ever had a peach filled churro? How about Nutella filled? That spanish guy is gonna inject that stuff so hard you are going to walk right back up to the counter and order ANOTHER half dozen hot and fresh gifts-from-god. It was too late at night for my old sleep-loving self to get a latte, but they’ve got a latte machine in there too. I might start eating churros for brunch now. You need to show up here and eat this trailer empty. Forget Gourdough’s, this is the new fried-dough mecca for Austin.
