I’m not sure why there are so many negative reviews. We’ve been goi g to this place for a couple of years. Everything I’ve eaten there with the exception of the chicken fajitas has been great. The service is more often than not very good. The servers tend to be very attentive. He tortillas, both corn and flour are homemade. The salsa is really good. Ask for the green sauce. It has a bit of a kick but really good. Don’t let those negative reviews keep you away. Give them a chance

This establishment has literally the best crispy tacos and enchiladas in town! I have lived in Austin, TX my entire life and after 29 years of trying out different Mexican food from various places(La Posada, El Rancho, Maria’s Taco Xpress, etc.) and no one compares to the taste and quality of Jalapenos Taco Bar. The service is great and the hostesses are very nice and courteous and after some small talk with one of them, realized that this establishment valued their customers. WILL come here AGAIN! They have NEVER messed up my order and it has NEVER been sub quality as some other people have claimed after reading previous reviews.

This is specifically about the breakfast tacos: The refried beans were so flavorful the other day that I decided to stray from my usual breakfast taco joints: Cilantros or Casa Maria. I ordered beans, potato and cheese tacos and I think the potatos must have ruined these. The tacos were not tasty at all, Taco Cabana would have been better. The red taco salsa is also very ketchupy. Lesson learned; stay with my usual spots!

If i could rate this place 0-stars i would sat at a table for 20minutes with no service at all. The place was no where near packed. Servers just standing around the kitchen and bar area.

This place is TERRIBLE. Beyond bad. How dare they call themselves a taco bar, when the chicken taco comes with rubbery, microwaved nasty chicken and nothing else on a bland tortilla? For shame. The server was okay, but when I asked him if they had any drink specials — after seeing a sign at the front door for drink specials — he just said«no». The is no love in the food, service or the establishment. My advice is to fly on by. You can probably get better food for half the money at Taco Cabana or Taco Bell.

Great service! Great food! Great price! and Great frozen Margaritas! After going to so many restaurants with terrible service and food, this was a great change of pace! I would highly recommend it!

Disgusting. This place was awful! So amazingly subpar! I ordered the chicken fajita tacos. The chicken was inedible. It tasted like they grabbed some freezer burnt discount chicken, grilled it(without any seasoning), waited 2 days, then microwaved it for 3 minutes. I was so grossed out. I sent it back. I was shocked that a restaurant would serve something so awful. The beans were really greasy, and overly porky. This was very poor quality food. Not authentic Mexican food on any level. Taco Bell would have been better. My husband and daughter didn’t like their food either, and she wouldn’t eat hers. The chips were not fresh, the salsa was bland. Our booth had tears in the seat. The place is a depressing dump.

This is a good restaurant with very good machacado con juevo and excellent tortilla soup. The fourth star is for service. Service is very good and very personable and we really feel like family. The expanded seafood menu is excellent. Always ask for the green salsa. The red salsa can be very, very garlic-y. You should definitely try Jalapeños.

Jalapenos is consistent on two things: great food and lack of order accuracy. After several visits(mainly in the mornings) I felt the need to write a review in hopes it will improve the service as the prices are low and location is less than five minutes from my house. Wait staff is always pleasent but there is clearly a disconnect between the servers and cooks. It’s common to order corn tortillas and they bring flour. Add potatos to your taco and you’ll get no potatos. Do NOT order to go unless you are in the mood to speak with a sassy girl who will not take your name or order correctly. Jalapeño’s, keep the food and improve your service.

Hidden gem in South Austin! Great service, wonderful food, great prices too! Glad we stopped in on a whim. Texas Fajitas– wonderful! Chicken spinach enchiladas– great!

The food here was just strange. I had enchiladas, the sauce was weirdly tangy/sweet. It wasn’t good. My boyfriend had a shrimp taco and it did not smell good. I told him not to eat the rest of it. We won’t be back.

This is the second time I come here. I love the Texas Fajita plate. It’s more than enough for 2 people plus we still have leftovers to take home. The Horchata, chips and salsa is always great as well. The service is excellent. The music is always enjoyable. The manager here is definitely doing something right and I hope it stays this way. I’m glad I heard about this place!

Excellent street tacos! They aren’t on the menu, so ask for them! Authentic Mexican food-not Tex-mex!

This place was pathetic. Their customer service and communication was unbelievable. The waitress argued what she didn’t understand. The food was cold and when we told them, they brought us back the same tacos with the same tortilla burned. Disgusting! Disgusting! Disgusting!

I love this place because they follow a true taqueria approach in Tex-mex. great al pastor tacos and fantastic Margs. They weren’t terribly busy on s Monday night so I hope they stay around… the jalapeño-Rita signature Frozen marg is great!!!

This maybe a little tilted because I came here after wasting time at Casa Gs(see that review). I was seated quickly, coffee was excellent, my omelet was good and they have great hot salsas. That’s right more than one kind of salsa. I’ll be back

Been here a few times for breakfast which was really good. It is one of our favorite spots and not just because of the margaritas and mimosas. This is the first for dinner and I wasn’t disappointed. The menu has a great selection some traditional Tex-Mex but some really interesting spins. I am not a refried bean lover but they make their’s with a hit of bacon flavor and who doesn’t like bacon! The staff are all really up beat and happy which makes for a great evening. Who wants sour and I hate my job waiting on them. I highly recommend giving them a shot… oh and did mention the margaritas have one of those too.

I love Jalapenos Taco Bar! I discovered it due to its close proximity to work. I go in by myself often for lunch and I am immediately greeted and seated. All of the staff are so kind, quick and efficient. A minute doesn’t pass without chips salsa and a kind face asking for my drink order. I am always in a rush and their operation is conducive to that. The food is delicious and the prices are excellent! I am a big fan of their Carne Guisada! I will be going here for lunch today! Oops, is twice a week bad!

Good Tex-Mex. I love the tortilla soup. The small bowl is $ 5, so good. Great, attentive service. Been here several times and always a manager right there to check you’re happy. Best thing this place is quiet and comfortable, not overrun yet with hordes of people or noisy kids.

What do I say except I’m on the late freight again. A co-worker of mine was excited about a new restaurant he’d never heard of. He comes in the office back in July and says I had to try it. He and I are always sharing restaurant tips and figured sure if he’s so enthusiastic about it. I was in south Austin working the end of July 2015. I’m getting hungry because I missed breakfast again, bad habit I realize. There I am driving on manchaca and crossing William Cannon when I see their sign. Due to traffic I got pushed out of my way and had to bend a corner. I was able to come back on the right side of the road and turn into the place. I vaguely remember that it was something else but don’t recall exactly what. I pulled right up front and go in. There couldn’t have been twelve people there. I was greeted immediately and sat down. Most of the menu had the usual tex-mex. I also saw a few unfamiliar dishes. Figuring time was short I ordered the lunch chicken fajitas. I was given chips and salsa as I waited. After ten minutes a waft of hot fajitas filled my table. I also got a side of white cheese which I wasn’t charged for. My meal was good, the meat flavored well and rice fluffy. The beans were okay but I would rather had charro beans. I washef my hands prior to my sitting down. …clean men’s room. The staff was attentive and friendly. I felt like the décor was cool and not overly busy. I’m going to return and have more time to try something different. I may raise my rating then we’ll see.

After a long weekend we ordered carry out from Jalapeños(whom we’d not yet tried) and couldn’t be happier — why haven’t we eaten here before? We had the beef fajita nachos, enchiladas poblano and chips/salsa… Everything was incredible, well prepared and fresh! The nachos(on oversized chips — which we love), were flavorful and generous! I can’t say enough about the enchiladas poblano, the chicken had absolutely the best flavor I’ve ever tried — paired with the spicy, creamy green sauce was perfection. We love fresh salsa, and could not get enough of their mild, chunky, fresh, flavorful recipe. We’ve tried most places around Manchaca/William Cannon but this is now our CLEARFAVORITE!

Been a couple of times very impressed. The queso compuesto is sooooooo delicious! Had the Chamoy Rita which is the best margarita I’ve ever had and am not big on magaritas. Careful with the Chamoy they will sneak up on you :). Friendly staff! Also it’s a little to dark in there! Add some more lights. I like to see what am eating or the person next to me.

This is now officially my favorite place for Tex-Mex in Austin. It wasn’t an easy decision since there are at least 2 other excellent Latino restaurants within a mile or so of there. They have a great selection of dishes on the menu. The big selection of lunch ‘specials’ makes it especially hard to choose what to get sometimes. but I don’t sweat it because it’s hard to go wrong. It’s all good! If you like it spicy be sure to ask for some salsa verde… I always do.

PROS: Today’s lunch was the Enchiladas Poblanas and Tejano Plate. Our appetizer was the Queso Compuesto. The Queso is to die for!!! We added ground beef and avocado to the Queso for bulk flavoring. I will definitely be back for lunch. Karina G. our waitress was cheery and very attentive to our request. CONS: the rice and beans that come with the two plates aren’t very flavorful, but over all the meal was satisfying. My next stop for the restaurant is breakfast.

Very good. I was so glad to find a place close to home with real Mexican Food. I was surprised at how many people were in there and yet we got our food quality and quick . Staff was right on top of it. So yes I will go back the price was comparable to the other restaurants in the area.

Nice place, we started with some chips while we waited for our food, then we had to order more chips because it took sooo long to have our food served(tacos and seafood soup) way longer that we ever had to wait for some easy to make/serve food, giod flavor i can not complain, we finish and paid with credit card, we left the tip cash and oh surprise! They charged us more on the card that the receip said, we talked to the person in charge but he promise to call back with a solution but a week after we still waiting for the call, vetter pay cash Never going back

The food is delicious. The atmosphere and service is terrible. We were sat immediately, but our server didn’t come around for about 5 minutes. We ordered queso as an appetizer, but it came out with the meal. We had already finished our chips by then, and our server didn’t refill them until we asked. What good is queso without chips?! We also had to ask for refills on our sodas. The table near us what loudly playing that whip and nay nay song loudly on their phone, so the restaurant started blaring music loudly over the loud speaker, but it had a short and kept cutting out. There was also a different speaker within earshot playing a completely different genre of music. We probably won’t be coming back which is unfortunate because I love their food.

OK, so maybe I was upset because they took away Hunan(locals only) so I ignored this place for a while but now I regret it. The tacos are amazing! They are a little bit on the pricy side but they taste great and they fill them so much that the homemade corn tortilla is asking for help. Their Paloma’s are pretty good and the piña colada’s are made the way my Puerto Rican boyfriend makes them which is authentic and delicious. They look like a milkshake with the whipped cream and cherry on top so beware if you are with your 4 yr old nephew that thought you were the worst person ever for not allowing him a sip. I gave him the cherry though and that’s the best part! Anyway, tasty enough, good drinks, plates are a good $ 10-$ 17 each and Tacos range from 2 – 3.50. Oh yeah, they don’t skimp out on the shrimp either! Definitely worth trying. Update: best Mexican drink menu ever!

Really enjoy everything about this place. The staff is extra friendly, the food is delicious and the salsa is on point! Try the Jalapeño Rita if you like it spicy! The atmosphere is also super mellow and relaxed. Could definitely make this a regular place.

This place is very cute and my food was delicious! My waiter was such a cutie, he asked me for my name and called me by it the rest of the time I was there. However, I think they must be understaffed, because when I came in I sat there for about 10 minutes, trying to catch a waiter’s eye before I finally just stopped a waitress in her tracks and gave her my order. She then sent over my waiter who apologized for the wait. I was going to excuse this wait, but I also waited what seemed like awhile from the time I finished my food to when I was brought the check. Lastly, I would have still given four stars, but I am pretty sure they must use MSG in their food. I am very sensitive to MSG and have started noticing myself getting hives after I eat it. About 20 minutes after I ate here I got a hive on my face!!! It is possible it is unrelated, but if you are also sensitive to MSG I would call here first to confirm.

As I stated in my last review we adore this place, since we live almost right behind it we come often. First couple experiences were fantastic but the last two, I don’t know what’s going on it seems to happen when do takeout. My husband got the trio plate but only was given two tacos. We ordered an extra order of chips and salsa and ended up with NO chips and salsa. I ordered Shrimp Fajitas the container was pretty much empty and some of the green pepper and onions were still raw and I wasn’t given any tortillas. He walked back over to grab the items forgotten and they still didn’t give everything. The food is amazing so we are still going to keep coming I just wanted to bring this to attention so that way it doesn’t happen to else who maybe isn’t so understanding.(I say that because when I went in there last Thursday there was some woman giving a manager an ear full about the horrible service she received and was going on and on about how they are losing her as a customer etc)

They are really striving to build a top of the line restaurant. First off I’d like to say that the service was great. Everyone was friendly, and very fast. The food presentation, and selections were superb. Someone was actively trying to make the plate look good. The food itself was very good. The Al Pastor was tasty, and the fish tacos were also as good. The only detriment that I found, was that the rice was a little bland. All in all, that’s a minor inconvenience for good food, and great service.
