The sandwiches are ok. Nothing to write home about. The customer service is, well, there is no customer service. The guy making the sandwiches does very little to engage customers. The girl at the checkout can’t stop texting long enough to look up at you. I will continue to go there until the next deli opens up there, because it’s convenient and doesn’t suck.

I want very much to like this place because the options are so limited near the capitol, but I recommend passing and checking out the Chili Parlor or Clay Pit. I’ll start with the good. The prices are fairly cheap. The breakfast tacos are average. The staff is friendly. But the food and coffee are… pretty awful. I got the«baked potato» soup last time, and I’ll never be back. I think it was a powdered soup? There was no potato, a few skins, a watery broth, and a couple strips of entirely soggy bacon. Pretty much inedible. The sandwiches are average at best. And the coffee was absolutely terrible. Try somewhere else.

Decent salad bar. Definitely take your food to go. Walking location to the capital building.

Salad bar is fresh and much better than the one at the Capitol Grill. Their dressings at least taste homemade, not sure if they are? The coffee is good and STRONG and their breakfast tacos are great and hearty. The refried beans need a little more lard or flavoring(coming from a San Antonio native here) :) Very happy with this place, I hope it sticks around. Us office workers in the area need a solid place to grab quick lunch and breakfast!

JC’s is a great spot for a quick breakfast taco or lunch on the go. The staff is friendly and fast, and they serve quality coffee and espresso. If you’re near the Capitol, try it out.

I had the Athenian, must say the sandwich was 10⁄10. The service was excellent, everyone very attentive, the place is clean and everything looks fresh. I will definitively be back when in Austin.

Just tried JC’s for a breakfast taco, and it was really good. I went with my standby potato/egg/cheese — nothing fancy. It was well seasoned(they asked if I wanted salt & pepper), the red(more orange) salsa was nice and a little spicy, and they ran the whole shebang through a toaster to melt everything together nicely. I’ll be back for breakfast for sure(trying the Mexicana taco next time), and will try it for lunch the next time I forget to bring my lunch from home.

Sometimes you just feel like having some delicious breakfast tacos freshly made and then what !? You find this place. All of the sudden your day started with the right foot. Great for lunch as well. I wish they stayed open longer as sometimes lunch is busy for me to make it on time.

I actually like this deli!!! I work across the street and it’s true, this location has not been successful but I am soooo glad they finally opened a deli with great sandwiches and an awesome salad bar!!! Fresh ingredients, great salad bar, and their customer service is great. I really hope it stays in business!

This location is jinxed. Virtually everyplace that’s been here eventually falls victim to whatever curse stains 1403 Lavaca. And based on breakfast here the other morning, I’m afraid the curse will strike another victim. First, the positives. The owners are nice guys. Next, unlike the previous breakfast/deli venture here, most, if not all, of the breakfast tacos are made to order. And they heat/warm the tortillas prior to serving you a taco. Now, the negatives, at least taco-wise. Limp, undercooked bacon. Potatoes that needed both more cooking and any sort of seasoning. And finally, the salsa. God, the salsa. They were initially out of red salsa and offered me pico or green salsa. Then, someone brought me out a to-go cup of red salsa. Between the unusual odor, the warmth of the container, and the creamy consistency of it, I ended up forgoing salsa. Verdict — below average taco saved only by a warm tortilla. I’m not a jerk, really. Ok, not all of the time. But for Pete’s sake, the last thing this area needs is another mediocre breakfast/sandwich joint. I’m afraid that, without drastic improvement, this will be another failed venture at the cursed address.
