4 stars goes to a nice courteous server that was prompt and extremely polite. But my south west beni. Both of my eggs were overcooked, but one was over medium an the other hard. Otherwise great service

Another 24⁄7 diner chain specializing in breakfast. The difference comes in two parts — 1) Jim’s is a Texas owned operation which means you get some Tex-Mex options on the menu too. 2) The service is super friendly. The other night, two of my public safety colleagues and I met up here for dinner. The service was first rate. The food was quite consistent. Definitely an option worth remembering, especially for late night/early morning.

Great service, great food, great desserts. This is my favorite Jim’s in Austin. The food is consistently well prepared and the service is always excellent. Their tortilla soup is one of the best. Great place for a steak too(really).

Service is hit or miss. The food is usually good. If they weren’t open late, I probably wouldn’t come here much.

We had a pleasant meal experience at this location. The menu offered a nice selection of items very reasonably priced especially if you’re on a budget. The cheese soup was to die for, just mouthwateringly delicious! I really enjoyed my vegetable omelet and my side of fruit was fresh. My husband thought is burger was just okay though, the patty being a little dry. Parts of the restaurant were slightly worn and in need of some remodeling. Other than that, we had a great time eating here and would consider returning for some more of that yummy cheese soup.

Salty. Greasy. Pretty basic diner stuff Service was good. Food was otherwise unremarkable. Not entirely sure why you’d come here instead of Kerbey Lane or even Denny’s or IHOP, but to each their own, I suppose. We needed something to eat late before going home and going to bed. I barely ate it but my adult daughter enjoyed it well enough.

A Austin staple for years and I live near one! Yay! Kinda old skool diner place that serves home style home meals and breakfast all day foods. I have not been there on busy Mornings mostly just evenings but the staff is always friendly and service has been good.

My family and I were at this Jim’s location two days after the Charlsie negative review. We had the completely opposite experience. Our waitress was excellent — I left a $ 15 tip. The food was fantastic. I had cheese enchiladas and they were on par with the wonderful enchiladas served at The Vermillion in Brownsville, Texas. An A+ for Jim’s. Everyone in my huge family had something different and they all loved the food they were served. I totally recommend this restaurant.

Food served cold; service slow; no floor manager; will think twice before dropping $ 15 for a couple small cold pork chops and runny eggss.

I’m really not one to write negative reviews. I try to be objective as possible while still expressing my personal experience. I understand that most of what happens at restaurants is not the sole responsibility of one person and that the attitude and actions of other patrons can often effect your own experience. For these reasons, I try to retain empathy in bad circumstances and give second chances. I have given the Research Blvd Jim’s location more than just a second chance. I grew up on Jim’s in Oak Hill. Dated and divey, sure, but the food is exactly how it presents itself and service can’t be beat. You would be hard pressed to find someone who didn’t agree with me. Jim’s has proven itself worthy of the sometimes longggg wait on a weekend. For convenience reasons, I started going to the Jim’s in North Austin. One look at this location should tell you its the middle child of the group. A little neglected, a little hard to reach, and a little too far off from caring about how its perceived. The food wasn’t up to par with Oak Hill but we learned to adjust our order around it. Chicken Fried Steak not good? That’s fine, how can you go wrong with Rustler’s Roundup or Biscuits and Gravy? I can deal with that. I can deal with the dated and dirty atmosphere, and I can deal with unenthused staff that gets the job done. At the end of the day, I just want breakfast for dinner. But what I cannot deal with is, after all the empathizing and second chances I have thrown their way, when I come in on a weekday morning get sat in a not slow but not busy section and get ignored for 20 minutes as I watch GROUPS of people get sat after me and order before me and my spouse. No drinks, no «hey, be with you in a few». I can wait. I can even understand there are probably good reasons why one group might order before another. But to not be greeted, smiled at, acknowledged while two groups of 5 people each get attended to before you, with the restaurant filling up more and more with each passing minute, I couldn’t stand that. Finally, when I stood up, I heard one waitress tell another«can you get to them?» so I sat back down. The waitress behind us nodded, brought the table behind us coffee and walked away. I’m sure she was going to come back, but I waited one minute and said«I’m done.» Even more surprising to me, as we are leaving our table and walking out, I see the manager at the register, checking out a customer. I hang back for a minute thinking«Surely someone will tell him what is going on and he will attempt to make amends. «No. I wait another minute, thinking I will say something when he has a free moment. The moment doesn’t come fast enough and my boyfriend promises me he will drive us down to Oak Hill for some real Jim’s. We got seated, greeted, and orders taken within 5 minutes at the busier south location. Our waitress was kind and helpful and, better yet, when I hung around waiting to give my waitress her tip, the manager immediately walked over to ask me if I needed help with anything. She probably thought I was crazy for how much I smiled at that.

Great place to go when you need a old fashion country breakfast after a long night. Jim’s is an experience! I recommend the chicken fired steak breakfast. Prices cannot be beat.

Great breakfast spot — both this location and the one up 183 a little ways near Spicewood Springs. It is good for the family breakfast or just a quick breakfast for one. If you are by yourself, sit at the counter. Quick service — prompt coffee refills and hot, fresh & tasty food. It is reasonably priced. My favorite is the Pioneer breakfast — 2 eggs with one biscuit covered in sausage gravy. The breakfast tacos are large and very good. Pick your favorite ingredients. I will say the traditional breakfast — 2 eggs, meat, hash browns and bread are good as well. The pancakes can vary from fresh and light to heavy. I do not get them that often, but when I do, I normally just get one to go with something — and it is normally pretty tasty.

Jim’s is my go-to diner for a good old fashioned breakfast any time of the day or night. I have been going to this location for years and have always enjoyed my meal and service. Most of the staff have been with Jim’s for years. They have great breakfasts, burgers and chicken. This location is probably the busiest during weekend hours, but they seem to move people through quickly and they also have counter service. As for people watching, this one never fails to entertain.

Simple, comforting diner food. My husband loves the place, probably because it reminds him of his childhood in Alabama. He always gets the chicken fried chicken, and it’s always delicious(I know this because I always sneak a few bites.) As I said, there is nothing fancy about Jim’s, regarding either the food or the atmosphere. There has usually been a wait every time I’ve come here(which I read to be a good sign), but there are counter spots if you’re in a hurry. Service has always been fast, although not entirely friendly– they mean business here, and move people in and out of seats fairly quickly. Try the chicken fried chicken and you won’t be disappointed.(Trust this Alabama girl, I know good CFC when I see it.) My pancakes were also very good– fluffy and warm. I think my husband probably wants me to order the chicken next time so I’ll stop stealing his.(What yours is mine, pal.) :)

I had been meaning to try this place for a while and did so last week. I went for lunch and had the CFS. Jim’s serves the classic version that people want. It was Service was great, the dining and rest rooms were clean. My only criticism is about the sides. Potatoes were the instant variety and the squash medley had an odd flavor. The summer squash and zucchini were cooked perfectly but included pieces of tomato one of which had the black stem end. There was also a large piece of onion skin in the mix. My opinion is that they should use just the squash with salt and pepper, a little butter and maybe a pinch of parmesan. Clearly, this place is a popular spot with Austin natives. I will go back to try a burger that looked good.

Good ol’ fasion diner. No frills, just a decent family diner. I like thier breakfast and a bowl of chilli with lunch. Servers and staff are nice and they remember you the second time you walk in, but they sometimes bicker with eachother behind the counter(but they’re always nice to customers), which can be funny or annoying depending on my/your mood.

Came here the other night at 1am on a lunch break. Unfortunately, choices for food are limited at that hour. The service was friendly, & very attentive(our waitress stopped by our table several times– almost too much, but I’m not complaining). We go our food moving right away and it arrived rather quickly. She got my order right, even though I am one of those customers that always substitutes a bunch of things! The food is where I am not impressed. I understand this is your average diner. I guess I was just hoping for more from a local establishment. I ordered an egg white veggie omelette, with a side of grits and rye toast. The omelette was oily, filled scantly with vegetables, and did not have much flavor. The grits were bland & even my rye bread toast was too thick & tasteless. I don’t think the food was worth the money, & I didn’t feel very good while or after I ate it.

LET’S TALKBREAKFAST! This is a all American breakfast, lunch, and, supper greasy spoon, with a sampling of limited Tex-Mex. Basically, it is a local Denny’s fused with IHOP kinda joint. Jim’s is a non consistent doable when you are in a pinch. They are a bit pricey for the food, and, the quality is seriously lacking. Coffee is akin to that at a truck stop greasy smokey diner. The staff are usually friendly, but, I have had some bad experiences. Go in here between 0 hundred and 0600, and, you’ll be ok, if you’re drunk. I’ve been in here several times when they are busy(10 customers minimum), and, it is a frustrating disappointment. Many times I have refilled my own damn drinks. There seems to be a weird trend in North Austin with waitstaff not wanting to refill your drinks. Now, don’t get me wrong, it’s not everywhere, but, it is here. Seriously speaking, these guys are in the back of the line when it comes to breakfast and service. My suggestions? Vazquez(which is next door), or, Dan’s(speaking for the immediate area). I went as far as contacting Jim’s HQ last year because, they say they are committed and they care. I got no written or electronic response back, but, I do get random stupid emails. Hmmmm! Nah, not my go to for breakfast. Over priced, under served, lacking quality.

This review has been a long time coming. I remember the first time I ever went to Jim’s. It was this location and raining like crazy and my friend didn’t want to make the trek to Waffle House. We’d just been to an emotionally exhausting concert and wanted comfort food. To be perfectly honest, I think I very much prefer Jim’s to the Waffle House, even if the United States Government doesn’t gauge emergencies on whether or not Jim’s is open. On said trip, I had the two eggs with bacon and toast breakfast. He had the pork chop breakfast. It looked delicious and we both enjoyed our takings. Since then, I’ve discovered that Jim’s has surprisingly great steaks, great burgers, and great breakfast dishes. Also great appetizers. Probably great everything. All cheap. In my experience, the service has always been really pleasant and my tea has always been full. You’d be fine to end any relationship with IHOP and Denny’s and go to Jim’s. But keep Waffle House in your back pocket. Just in case there’s a violent storm or something.
