I’ve been to multiple shows here and I’m always disappointed. Bad ambiance. You can’t see anything. Fog machines and colored search lights don every show. There’s no where to sit unless you want bottle service, and this place is a f*ing dump so the seats are always empty. There’s usually a dancer on a small stage with 15 creepy dudes standing behind her. I really like the artists this place brings in, it’s just not worth it & I’ve stopped going.

I understand everyone is out to make money but because people are drunk and it’s sxsw in austin doesn’t give you the right to try and take advantage of your guests. So it was 6 dollars to get in and everyone had to wait for people to exit before more could enter that’s fine no big deal. What I do have a problem with is the door man taking $ 40 for 3 people who agreed to pay $ 10 a piece to cut the line and not giving back the change and then threatening to kick us out when it was requeste. I would never waste a second in this establishment and I would never tell anyone else to go here. This is by far hands down the worst experience I’ve had coming to austin for the past year. I feel bad for those who traveled from all over the world to get treated like shlt. Kingdom is a good example of how not to run your business so if you want some tips on that please go there.

Kingdom’s strengths lie in 3 areas: 1. The size — it’s a very small club, probably doesn’t fit more than 100 – 150 people at a time. Because of this, it has a very intimate atmosphere where you can really get lost in the sound. The DJ booth is pretty casual, bringing the attention to the music, not the man/woman on the stage(which is the way a solid dance club should be!) 2. The music — what’s playing depends on the night. I’ve heard some great sets here, from pop influenced house to some dark underground tech-house. They also play hip hop and drum n bass on some nights, but I have yet to attend one of these shows. 3. The light/sound — As you can tell by the pictures, it has a really dark and grungy feel that makes it easy to forget where you are. The lighting isn’t too bright or too dim, matches the music, and the sound system is one of the best I’ve heard. You can tell a good sound system by how the bass makes you feel — Kingdom’s is really tight and focused, and vibrates your whole body without hurting your ears. This makes a HUGE difference when it comes to finding the rhythm when the entire place isn’t shaking and muffled. Overall, I love this club, and make a point to see it almost every time I visit Austin. It rivals clubs on the West Coast and elsewhere, which is more than I expected from Texas.

Hey, I went here on a Saturday night to enjoy some of the house music. The music was good, the crowd was fine, BUT some jerk or cunt stole my leather jacket and a purse with everything in it that I hang under a bar desk literally meter from where I was dancing. I’d like to think it was an outsider as all the austin people I met were just amazing. This was a very disappointing experience since none of the Kingdom staff was willing to help. They refused to call the police although I wasn’t able to do so since my phone had been stolen, duh! So they made me wait for another hour until the party was over to do a room search again. They didn’t offer me a jacket or a blanket although my jacket was stolen and it was a pretty chilly night. At 4.30 am, when the party finished and everybody left, I checked the space again which didn’t make much sense as it was obvious that the stuff was stolen and nobody would return it. I asked the manager how I could contact them in case my stuff would be returned(I still believe in good people!), and he said it would be impossible as the club would not open until the following Friday or so… Anyways, this was a truly disappointing experience in Austin. I do understand that there are jerks and thieves everywhere. I just wish the staff was more compassionate and helping.

DONOTWASTEYOURMONEYHERE! This club is awful. The same music plays on repeat with the same beat over and over. The lighting is decent but the majority of the people that wasted the money on the $ 20 cover stood near the walls and didn’t move. After spending only a few minutes inside one of my friends left and requested half of the cover back because she hadn’t been there long and the bouncer was very rude to her and told her that«once you walk through the doors the money’s mine». We ended up leaving shortly after her and went to a better place. It may be better on nights when there’s someone playing, however it’s awful without a guest artist. Overall, just don’t waste your money to walk in the door unless you just want to stand along the walls of a misty room listening to 4 songs on repeat.

After years of having my EDM go-to Barcelona turn to the dark side of hip-hop(except on Sundays) and crappy door guys, I decided to finally try Kingdom. I went at 9:30p by myself, on a Friday, because you gotta go where your people are. I immediately was put off by the bro-ness at the door. My theory is the higher amount of bros, the less PLUR the crowd. I went to the guy in the front, pulling out my $ 10 and he immediately said $ 20. I asked if there was a special DJ and he gave me a flat no. Never-mind the fact that he was looking at me like I was scum. I asked if that’s always the price and he replied, «that’s the price.» I’m pretty sure he was trying to price gouge me. I’m not an ugly girl, but I’m pretty sure I’m not the type of girl he wants to smash and plus I was alone so, he tried it. Their demographic is probably people willing to spend for nothing, girls that are eff-able and bros, I’m not sure. I’ll stick with Plush and Rainn and deal with Summit, and Concrete Cowboy for my weekly fix. At least I know I’ll get vibes at those venues. Kingdom is possibly an awesome venue, but the fact that they charge when no one else does for non-shows is ridiculous and the fact that they have dishonest employees warrants a one star rating.

Not much to say except. Decent music. Just watch your pocket book. These people are not thinking about anything else except how much money they can take at the door. Watch the advertising as well. The main performer will not start until 1:00 am. I’m looking for a better venue.

Definitely a great venue for our last stop of the night because the group was craving something techno and hip hop! We actually came in earlier around 11, but it was sort of dead so definitely come back around 1am when it starts to get fun. The bass was loud, and I absolutely loved it — you could even feel it! It was a great club to end the night.

Very cool spot, very horrible door staff. There’s better bars literally one block away. Save yourself the headache and skip the prentension.

Umek! I came into town last Friday because I was seeing Purity Ring on 9⁄5. My friends had extra tickets to Umek so we decided to go check it out. It was so much fun I hadn’t heard such great music in a long time. He really put on a great set because the crowd was feeling it. There were some technical difficulty moments but it comes with the setup right. I was just happy to see everyone getting along and having a good time. Sometimes its hard to find that in Houston in the electronic scene. But yes kudos for all the deep, dark, techno tunes!

Awesome venue for EDM shows. The lighting here is the best I have seen in any Austin nightclub. Sound quality is amazing. I saw Vicetone here and it was a great experience. The only thing holding me back from giving five stars is that the place is super tiny and it got extremely crowded for the concert. I am sure this isn’t an issue on non event nights but its a pretty tiny place for a show. They allow reentry for shows and have clean bathrooms. Very friendly crowd as well. I’ll be sure to come back for future shows.

Best club in town. Regular big shows come through on the weekends, best sound system in town and the drink prices aren’t crazy expensive for how nice the venue is.

Went to the Darius show a few weeks back and had a great time. Show was awesome and the ravers were really cool. Lots of young people :) Well recommended, especially if you’re passing through and looking to make new friends for the night, go to possible after parties, or just have fun and enjoy the music. Open after 2 am too

Garrett and the staff here are awesome! This venue is definitely one of my favorite spots in town. They’re consistently bringing in top tier talent with bar service that’s second to none. Well done fellas had a blast this weekend. Thanks for the good times and great music.

It is THE after hours place to go post 2 am. Expect a long line and a $ 10 cover AND expect to grease the bouncer $ 20 per person on the shorter line if you want to enter within 10 minutes. The bouncer clearly asked for $ 60 for the 3 of us which didn’t include the $ 10/per person for the wristband inside. It’s a hefty price to pay if us have to go to the bathroom ASAP and can’t wait in the wrap around line. It seems to be a good business for him while the other line continues to grow longer and move at a snail’s pace. 2 beverage offerings after 2 am: water or red bull The place is pretty clean with bathroom attendants and plenty of room for the late night DJ worship. It’s all about lasers, good DJs, and pretty chill people.

«I’m sorry I made that drink really strong…» Ok bar-tend-ress. We’re just going to high five you mistake on my $ 6 drink(uh not bad) and work our ways up to get a glimpse of the dj. If you happen to like house, trance, EDM, and dancing your face off… This is your jam. If you accidentally took some drugs earlier in the night, this is a great place to stop too!(Yup. Accidentally! Drugs = bad!). The lighting is perfect — pitch dark with lots of laser lights moving along with the music. So you dance like you’ve got convulsions? NP! No one can see you through the smoke and darkness. I really love this place. If I had it my way, the only stop I’d make in Austin to work off dinner.

If you like to party until the sun comes up, don’t miss out on Kingdom! Awesome sound system and no frills club– just go to dance and let loose. Wandered into this establishment after a night of drinking on 6th street and wanted something different. As a somewhat audiophile, wanted to see what the house music scene was like and so happy we found this gem! Deep house was playing and you could just tell, all walks of life have been through this door. If you’re looking for top 40’s, go elsewhere. We came in around 1am and was escorted out(with everyone else) around 145 because they were charging for people coming in after 2am. A little odd but hey, we got in for free before and enjoyed ourselves so we had no complaints! Feels like a place comparable to output or TBA in Brooklyn but with all the nyc transplants, I wouldn’t be surprised.

Hi, my name is Ann– [Hi, Ann.] –and I’m a Kingdomholic. I was taken here on the night of my birthday after all the bars closed at 2am, and I haven’t looked back. If you like dancing and if you like Deep House, this is where you need to be for after hours. THIS is Mecca… as far as Austin goes at least.
