One of my favorite ways to unwind at the end of the work week is Robert’s Friday evening dive. $ 25 gets you a spot on the boat; that evening’s divers vote on the dive site. My favorite is to hunt for sunglasses around Starnes Island. Great operation — very safe. As an instructor, I always give my students the option to do their certifying dives off the Giant Stride.

Don’t believe those people who say that you can’t dive Lake Travis because of the drought. Sure, the lake is currently 53′ below ‘full pool’ but that only sucks if you are shore diving and have to lug your 50+ lbs of dive gear up and down the cliffs at Mansfield Dam or Windy Point while wearing a 7mil wetsuit in 95f weather. From a boat you are one easy giant stride entry away from interesting sites that are only in 40′ of water instead of 90′. That’s an easier, safer dive that you can spend more time exploring. Sure, a trip on Lake Travis Scuba’s ‘Giant Stride’ boat costs more then a shore dive. At first, I told myself this would only be an occasional splurge. However, the owner and Captain(Robert) is a really nice guy and one of the few Dive Professionals in Austin that I have respect for. He is out there practically every weekend helping people from all over Austin and beyond get out on the water and enjoy a day of diving. During the winter he brings hot water for peoples wetsuits, zips up the canopy and turns on the heater. To help keep costs down, I purchased a frequent diver card(buy 8 and get 2 free). I also do the cheaper 1 tank Friday Sunset dives and shore dives at local parks.(Dollar Cost Averaging for SCUBA!) I burned through my frequent diver card and my wife told me I should get another since I enjoy it so much. If she doesn’t think I’m spending too much, then why should I? Seriously… Robert and LTS is there for me pretty much any time I’m ready to go and he and his regulars have become like family, Another thing I like about Robert is that he knows how to treat each kind of diver on his boat. If you are a new diver who’s never been on Lake Travis he’ll arrange to get you a dive guide and really go over every aspect of the dive and if your a seasoned tech diver he’ll stay out of your way and let you do your thing. It really is a boat for all divers. Still not convinced? Check out his very active Facebook page with tons of pictures and trip reports. My wife and kids love this as they get to see me having fun while Robert uploads and tags pictures right from the boat. I think LTS recently went over 1,000 unique divers so that really represents a lot of people getting out on the lake for the day having a great time.

I’m a Dive Master and Technical diver, and Lake Travis scuba is by far the most professional and accommodating charter I’ve ever had the pleasure to dive with. The Skipper is a first rate fellow with a broad knowledge base, warm demeanor and happy to make your diving experience the best that it can be. He utilizes only the most professional and dependable Dive Masters and crew available. Don’t hesitate to take advantage of this outstanding service.

Lake Travis Scuba is owned and operated by a first class diver and individual named Robert Weiss. When diving in Lake Travis, there is only one option: Lake Travis Scuba. Robert is on time and his sole purpose is to make sure that you have a great time. Robert is also a certified scuba instructor and I have taken classes with him. In fact, I may never take a class with anyone else. His professionalism is surpassed only by his boundless enthusiasm for what he does. You are truly missing the boat if you don’t take the opportunity to experience Lake Travis with someone that knows the area like the back of his hand.

Again!!! Fantastic job. Robert you have a great company and do a wonder job making the dive trips memorable. My 16 yo son enjoyed the trip last year so much that another trip year was a must. My friends that I know in the area I have sent your way for certification. As well as friends from the Houston area to come up for boat dives!!!

I finished up my Advanced Open Water Diver course aboard the Giant Stride. The captain was a cool guy, knows the lake well as well as the people on it(knew the cops and a couple other boaters). He also paid close attention to our safety and was always ready for us when we would resurface. He had a collection of sunglasses that the divers have found while on his boat — when we got to shore at the end of the day he gave out the glasses to the kids that were playing on the beach. Pretty sweet of him I think. Great price, great service. I would recommend this business to loved ones.

My nephew and I went out on the Giant Stride with Captain Robert Weiss and Dive Master Tron Green. It was the Friday Sunset dive, and the rest of the party was made up of very experienced divers. Ben and I hadn’t touched our gear since being certified(in 2007 and 2012), and we were nervous about being so green. It was a fantastic(and confidence building) experience, as Robert and Tron patiently refreshed us on the skills we needed. We had a wonderful, relaxing time. I definitely recommend Lake Travis Scuba for your certification, refresher course, and recreational dives!

Wow! Talk about exceeding your customer’s expectations, Robert and Lake Travis Scuba succeeded! As part of an Advanced Open Water certification course this past weekend, my teenage son had the chance to dive off Robert’s dive boat. He’s a typical teenager, rarely releasing information, much less bragging about exceptional service, but he returned to shore raving about his dive boat experience. Apparently Robert knows how to treat his customers, such as handing the divers their fins as they enter(or taking fins from them as exit) the water and taking pictures of each diver to share via Facebook. He also keeps the boat meticulously clean, well maintained and functional(including special flooring to allow water to drain away and avoid messy/slippery situations). Thanks Robert, your dedication to your customer made my son’s first dive boat experience positive and very memorable. You set the bar high for the Florida dive boats he’ll be on next month!
