I first came when they recently opened it and found two hairs in my food, the food wasn’t all that good. We got a free meal from next time we came. I later returned and the food was still bland, I am mexican but I LOVE honduran food as I am married to one. And didn’t even come close. Maybe I’ll go back on day and it will be better

I went out to lunch looking for a new place so a friend and I tried Las Hamacas Honduras Restaurant. I felt our of place only speaking English. My friend who’s first language is Spanish immediately spoke to the waitress in Spanish so I’m not sure if the waitress didn’t speak English or assumed I spoke Spanish. Either way I was a bit lost. The tv’s were on and blasting some kind of Latin soap opera. It was distracting in a bad way. The drinks are can, not fountain so you have to pay for refills. Having said all of that, the food was very good. My steak was dry but in the end I left wanting to go back. I would probably have to go with the same friend as last time since I don’t know how I’d communicate otherwise.

Very quiet establishment, I guess I arrived early for dinner time. There is a modern juke box that blasted music when the few people picked the music to liven up this place. They had problems with their internet or machines so they couldn’t accept the coupon not credit cards. Still ventured in to explore their cuisine. Tried the carne asada and pupusas plate. The carne came with meat on skewers, white rice, slaw, banana/plantain chips and refried bean… im not quite sure what was up with the refried beans… definitely not tasty. I guess white rice was the best part… enough said. the pupusas filled with cheese, some scraps of meat, slaw on the aside… slaw was more memorable. The staff was nice though, tried to help out and courteous answering questions.

I can’t believe I found a Honduran restaurant in Austin. My husband and I went to eat there to see how it is. As a Honduran who was born and grew up in Honduras, the food was very good. I ordered the pupusa plate and it was delicious just like home. My husband had the pollo frito plate, which was delicious. The price is reasonable and the staff was friendly. The only negative that I can say that the food was not as flavorful as I’m used to but for someone trying it for the first time that may be the best. Also, the waitress didn’t seem to speak English and that can be a draw back if they are trying to attract non-English speaking Americans. Overall, I’m so excited that this place is close and I can go eat there when I’m in Austin.

Food was overcooked, place was completely empty, and half-way through the meal they told us the credit card machine was not working and only accepted cash Maybe authentic, but no desires to ever visit Honduras for the cuisine.

Maybe deserves a 2 ½. I wouldn’t mind eating here again if someone else really wanted to, but I wouldn’t recommend it. Good stuff: fried pork. Fried plantains. They came out hot and tasty. Having live soccer on TV was nice too. The rest: The rest of the food came out barely warm and pretty flavorless. Pupusas(a big F): A pupusa is a Honduran/Salvadoran signature food. Basically a thick tortilla stuffed with cheese(and/or other stuff). With the right, authentic Central American cheese, they are delicious and really incredible. With the wrong cheese, they’re a big disappointment. Monterrey Jack is the wrong cheese.

Not impressed. Wandered in here thinking it was a mexican joint but is really honduran which I thought would be cool to try. The truth was, the food was OK, not great. But everything else was bizarre. I order the jalapeño relleno wrapped in bacon along with the fajitas. While waiting I get a margarita. The drink was OK but very small. Tiny glass, too much ice, not worth it. Then after a fairly long wait, everything comes out at once. The deep fried jalapenos wrapped in bacon are actually good despite the fact they have been sitting out at least 10 minutes and are about room temperature. The red sauce they come with is useless tasting and ice cold. The fajitas are not much different than those at Chili’s(and they are mediocre at best there) although they do add a couple bacon wrapped shrimp with them. But I get no tortillas with them. I asked and she said yes they are coming and 8 minutes later, I get two. The fajitas are now cooling off. The tortillas are home made but large and thick and chewy. Not great. During the dinner the waitress turns the juke box on with very loud latino salsa type music and I mean loud. I was the only white guy there and she spent plenty of time yapping with tables of other latinos while my food was getting cold waiting to be delivered. Not sure if this place was a taco joint or night club. I suspect if I was latin, I would have received far better service. I thought overall the food was OK but everything really needs better management.

Food was only so so. I got pork chop which was tough and not able to chew, my husband got Pescada Frita and that was ok. Margarita was very plain and not much alcohol, felt watery. When we went to check out, lady did not speak english and was not able to detail the total bill. Took forever to check out, probaby 10 minutes. Clean but no ambience. It was pretty empty.

This is a sweet little eatery with very authentic Honduran fare at reasonable prices. Service was friendly and fast, the ambiance was clean and bright; nice pictures on the walls and TVs tuned to spanish-language stations. Complimentary tostados and bean dip– yum. Plantains were great. Wife had shrimp in coconut cream; I had an excellent fish with a shrimp topping. Best flan ever for dessert. Entire bill with generous tip, two drinks, two appetizers, two main courses, and two desserts came to less than $ 40. We’ll be back.(PS– this restaurant is listed twice in Unilocal. It is the same place.)

Boo. Since the mister was working in the area, we didn’t have a lot of choices and the nearby Jack-In-the-Box is just not our kind of thing. We decided on this because it was convenient. That was about as good as it got. When we walked in the number of people working there definitely outnumbered the people eating… which was 2. Since it was just after 1 I was a little nervous about that, but being hungry, I was a little relieved that maybe I wouldn’t have to wait long! Wrong. It took about 5 minutes after sitting for someone to come and take our drink order. Another couple of minutes later the waitress came back, but by then the peepee monster took over and mister was in the bathroom. Bad idea. It took her about 10 more minutes to come back. Finally we ordered food. Having never had Honduran food before I wasn’t sure what to expect, but the menu looked pretty good. I love trying new food, so I was excited. Prices seemed fair, but we tried to order things that would come out quick since a break in the day for him does not benefit when it’s an hour and a half. Wrong again. It took 45 minutes for the food to come out. During this time we had both finished our drinks, but were so hungry when the food came we forgot to ask for more. The extra star was because I thought the food was pretty good. Mister didn’t think so, but he’s a little pickier. The waitress never came back to ask us anything and we were just trying to finish up to get back to business. Coincidentally, one of the 2 people that were there was someone I knew that is originally from Honduras. I thought about it later, but I guess I should have asked him if it’s customary for poor service in their culture! It’s no wonder they were so slow. We won’t be back.
