I officially love this place! My first time here and having a blast. Offered the bar back a $ 100 to cut his man bun off and he took it. The best experience in the world. I should post a video but I don’t want to get him in trouble.

We had a great experience at this place. We were visiting Austin for the weekend and made dinner reservations for a Friday night. The menu was interesting, the service was friendly and attentive, and the food was extremely good. I’m also happy to report that they know how to make a real cocktail and they don’t charge LA prices for it. I wish I could say the same thing about some of the other bars and restaurants in Austin! The bottom line: This is our new favorite restaurant in town. We’ll definitely be going back.

OMG Best dinner ever in Austin. From the amazing appetizer to the incredible fried chicken and delectable cheesecake. This place rocks. My drink was awesome, you have to try the velvet sunrise. Wow! They know what they’re doing in the kitchen. You have to try this place.

We initially were headed to Torchy’s down the block but in the blistering sun of a recent Saturday afternoon, we decided to skip it and head to Little Barrel and Brown. Sure glad we did. Not only was there no wait and lots of a/c, the service and food were fantastic. Each of us was thrilled with what we ordered and, unlike Torchy’s, they have a full bar where they make delicious Bloody Marys. Would definitely return to this spot.

We enjoyed our time at the Little Barrel and Brown. Dinner for 2: The beer battered shrimp app was great. We ordered the pork chop chef special and the Buttermilk Fried Chicken. Both were delish. Even the sides were top notch! The drinks were great too. Best Boulevardier my husband had ever had. I had the French 77 and it is delicious and refreshing drink if you like bubbles in your cocktail. The service was great. We are huge Tampa Bay Lightning fans and when we were done with our dinner, we asked our server if they would mind turning one of the tv’s at the bar to the playoff game. Within minutes we were sitting at the bar watching our team. We enjoyed more drinks at the bar and watched as the Little Barrel and Brown turned from a nice dinner spot to a happening night out.

Lovely classy bar with not too cold aircon, white tablecloths and linen and attentive staff. Came here for a post-shopping restorative. Beware no food after 3pm on a weekend until dinner time.

We still need to go back for a meal other than Brunch, because if their other dishes are anything like the brunch menu they won’t disappoint. I stick with the chicken and waffles because it’s simply the best chicken and waffles I’ve ever had. A waffle is a waffle, but the fried chicken here is amazing and the sauce gives it a great sweet/spicy/savory combination. I paired my cocktail with some toast to start the day and even the toast was delicious!

Amazing food with amazing brunch dishes! I came here on a Sunday for some brunch. My first impression of the restaurant was it was cute and trendy. The hostess made a great first impression. I never experienced such a great greeting before. She acknowledge us and gave us an estimated time of when we will be seated. She seemed to genuinely care. When we seated, our waitress greeted and took our order. She was also very nice. We ordered: Steak & Eggs: Roasted potatoes, onion, sunny side up egg, red wine sauce. The steak was perfectly cooked. The red wine sauce was a good touch to make the steak more flavorful. And the sunny side up egg made it even better! This made my Sunday! Duck Pastrami Hash: Fried eggs, red eye gravy, sweet potatoes, shredded brussel sprouts. The duck was perfectly seared with a good smokey taste. The combination of the eggs, sweet potatoes, and brussels sprouts complimented the duck. This is great if you’re looking for something on the lighter side. Fried Chicken & Waffles: Chorizo maple syrup, charred pickled jalapeño. The chicken was perfectly battered and it was delicious. Waffles were crispy and tasted delicious. My friend couldn’t stop eating it even though he was full. One of the top places in Austin for chicken and waffles. Very happy to have found this hidden gem on South Congress. Can’t wait to try their dinner menu!

I attempted to plan a large brunch for a group of 25 people one weekend for 12:30pm. When I called to make a reservation, the hostess was very kind and said she didn’t see it being a problem as there was nothing on the books yet, but she had to double check with a manager before saying yes for sure. When she got back on the phone, she told me that her manager asked if we could push it to 2p because the time frame I wanted the reservation for was their«busy time» and we would take up too large of a space. I asked if we could do it for 1p instead as 2p was way too late for us. They wouldn’t work with me at all, and I was extremely disappointed, especially knowing they had no reservations. They completely lost our business and just said«sorrrrryyyy.» *shrug* Because they were not willing to accommodate us, I booked my brunch at Cru Wine Bar on 2nd instead, who was MORE than willing to work with us and our group. We had over 28 people show and spent at LEAST $ 850, not including tip for the servers. Little Barrel and Brown’s loss, both Cru and my gain. I can’t believe they were willing to let that much guaranteed business walk out the door. I swore to myself that I would never go here after an experience like that, but the next weekend I ended up tagging along with a group of 8 for brunch. I was blown away. The inside is adorable, mimosa specials are amazing($ 10 for a mostly-champagne mimosa carafe), and the food was spectacular. To my surprise, even the service ended up being outstanding. I would definitely rate this place 5 starts if it weren’t for the first experience I had attempting to work with them, but everything else about this place is incredible. It is such a quaint little restaurant, and I am glad I tagged along with my friends here instead of being stubborn about never coming here. So yes, I will definitely be coming back.

Get. the. cheese. fries. So so so delicious. We got a reservation for Saturday night. The place was only about half full. We got a round of cocktails(the French 77 was really good) and started with some apps – deviled eggs, shishido peppers, and cheese fries. I ordered the buttermilk fried chicken for dinner. It was some of the best fried chicken I’ve ever had. It was mild, not spicy. My friends enjoyed their entrees as well, and the food was reasonably priced.

Quite a delightful brunch. Get there before 1 for a nice quiet time. Food was yummy but the mimosas were kind of weak. Tres Leche cake was superb.

I’m waiting for the next opportunity to stop in for evening happy hour again. I went on a weekday for this happy hour. It is such a deal, and it has me so indecisive every time I order. Why? Because everything sounds and really is so delicious, that’s why. There are a couple of dishes that I absolutely loved: muscles and deviled eggs. I can’t stop thinking about the muscles in a hearty broth and the grilled, aromatic, olive oiled bread that came with it. The muscles were a good bite, not rubbery or gritty, and the sauce permeated every inch within those shells. Their deviled eggs are so delicious with the capers and smoked salmon. I’m not a big fan for deviled eggs, but these I fought for. There was something different in the texture of the yolk than other deviled eggs I’ve had before. Oh that’s right, it wasn’t stiff.

I’m sad it took me so long to try Little Barrel and Brown. I had one of the best brunches there this past weekend. The restaurant had a good crowd to it. Plenty of people, but still able to get a table last minute without waiting too long. The waitstaff and hostess were also very friendly. Great service overall. Get a table by the window and you’ll be able to do some great people watching. Definitely order the chicken and waffles — one of the best I’ve had in Austin. The chorizo maple syrup and charred jalapeño add a really nice touch. Will definitely come back to try their dinner!

Every now and again, you want to step inside a restaurant off a busy street, and find yourself somewhere lovely, dark, romantic and that makes you feel like you’re in a big city. I never had heard of this little treasure. But I’m so glad it popped up in my Unilocal feed. The first night my partner and I went here, I ordered the vegetarian fried rice and he ordered an Alfredo pasta with chicken. Some added libation and we were submerged into a lovely little dinner. The flavor was lovely. It makes me REALLY happy when there are vegan/vegetarian options on a menu that are flavorful. If they could populate their menu with something fully vegan and wonderful — I’ll be in LOVE. The next time my partner and I went out, it was Sunday morning and we were jonesing for some brunch. My partner settled in the shrimp and grits which he loved and I — was SO delighted to order a tofu scramble which was curried and had beautiful touches of veggies. I asked them to nix the pita slices that came with it and sub in wheat toast. And I ordered a side of roasted potatoes. The potatoes were perfect! Sautéed with onions and flavorful, it was the perfect compliment to the tofu. I was so surprised to find it a slow brunch morning and I was wondering why this place isn’t more packed! But maybe it’s to my benefit to have full access to such a treasure. The service here is wonderful and everyone is so nice. I think I’ve found a new favorite.

The pastrami hash was absolutely abysmal. Even though the individual ingredients sound good on paper, they didn’t go together ATALL. Sweet potatoes that were way too hard, brussel sprouts that were too soggy, the duck was cut into small cubes which made them too chewy, the egg was over-easy so that the raw yolk basically masked all the taste, and then to top it off… the entire dish was doused in soy sauce glaze. Blegh. The chicken and waffles, the ambiance, and the location are awesome though. I’ll come back again, but I’ll never order the pastrami again. Ever.

We came in here Sunday evening after a very long, eventful day. They have Happy Hour ALLDAY on Sunday. The restaurant was pretty empty so the 3 of us sat up at the bar to take advantage of the HH. Everything was delicious. Why don’t I come here more often? Owner was great to talk to as well. I’ll be back!

When plans changed at the last minute and I was freed from working late, my husband and I decided to have an impromptu downtown date night. I pulled up my bookmarks list on Unilocal and they caught my eye when I noticed that they take reservations via open table. Even being a Friday night on South Congress, I was able to book us a table with ease and once we arrived we had no wait. I had originally planned to try them for brunch but their dinner menu looked great too so we took a chance. After sitting, cold waters were brought to us in adorable mason jars which I loved. The atmosphere was mostly candle lit giving it a cozy/romantic feel. I also like when areas around the kitchen are visible to the public because it gives the illusion that they have nothing to hide in terms of how your food is prepared. I ordered a glass of sparkling rose and my husband got a beer. They have many local brews on tap and an impressively long wine and cocktail list as well. For my meal I chose their vegetarian dish of the day which was a fresh tagliatelle pasta with grilled eggplant, zucchini, yellow squash, heirloom cherry tomatoes, and a sunflower pesto. It was one of my most delicious pasta dishes I have ever had in my life! Everything was cooked perfectly and the sunflower pesto totally took it to another level. My husband sadly didn’t enjoy his dinner nearly as much as I did. He got the shrimp poboy with fries and the bread they served it on was extremely stale. I believe that’s how they are traditionally made, so he didn’t want to be a bother and send it back. I don’t blame him for preferring it had come on fresh bread though. The shrimp were cooked well but tasted a tad too fishy. He also pointed out that there was no salt or pepper on the tables but I didn’t feel my dish needed it. He said his fries could have used more salt. Our total bill for two entrees, a glass of rose, and his beer was $ 50 before tip. Definitely more of a splurge than your everyday meal. Had it been cheaper I think my husband wouldn’t have been as picky. But to be fair I feel that expectations rise when prices do. I would definitely come back for another pasta dish or to try brunch.
