Lockdown Austin

I LOVE puzzles. Rubik’s cubes, cast puzzles, brain teasers, you name it. Naturally, I’ve been dying to try one of the «escape rooms» since they picked up steam in popularity about a year ago. There are a decent number of selections in Austin so why did we pick Lockdown? Well, because they are one of the few places that allowed a BABY! We came as a group of 6 plus a 6 months old infant.
Overall, we had a wonderful experience with the Casino Heist. Everyone from the front desk to the in-​game «dealer» was extremely nice and polite. We had a few newbies in our group (myself included) and they made sure to explain all the rules clearly. The room was clean and well-​maintained and just about the right size for a group of 6. We probably broke their record for coming closest to finishing… but not. We were on the very last puzzle and literally needed 1 more minute to escape. Can’t wait to do their WW3 room in the future!
Now, a little more details into the technical aspects of the puzzles. Even though this was my first time, I’ve heard enough from others to know that there are different «types» of escape rooms.
For Casino Heist, I would say it’s more of a *linear* puzzle that’s great for first timers. Every single riddle/​lock has a straightforward rational solution that will make you go «ohhhh, that makes sense» once you figure it out. In other words, you don’t have to do anything ridiculous like «breaking down the wall to find a key». But that doesn’t mean they are *easy* by any means. I think Lockdown did a good job striking a balance between difficulty and fun.
However, even though we had 6 people, the serialized nature of the riddles made it a hard to «divide and conquer». As in, for most part, we had to solve the riddles one at a time because one solution would contain a key clue for another, even though we might be presented with multiple riddles at once. For that matter, I would say 4 is the ideal number of people for this scenario. Nothing wrong with it, just the style. Either way, this room was a lot of fun and I highly recommend it! I think the completion rate is about 20%?

My buddies and I were in Austin for a college reunion, and we’d done Escape Rooms before on the East Coast, so we wanted to see what Austin had to offer. We did the Casino Heist room, and we had a blast. The «live actor» in the room with us made the experience very enjoyable, and all of the clues were quite unique. We’d definitely come back and do their other rooms next time we’re in town.
Big shout out to Karen, the General Manager, for her hospitality, kindness, humor, and enthusiasm!

It was a fun team experience. Unfortunately we didn’t solve the puzzle. Turned out that one of the locks was switched and in the wrong place. Apparently someone messed up while resetting the room.
The girl telling us that was certainly not doing a good job at pitching that too us and tried brushing it under the table.

we came for a bachelor party and the staff was extremely nice and accommodating allowing us to rent out both rooms as well as even hiding pictures throughout the room for the bachelor. Both rooms were very well thought out and stuck to the themes. Been to other rooms in other cities and this one was definitely as great. Great job by the whole lockdown team. If the team wants to meet us for drinks later that’d be great ;)

I was here for a company package and went through the ww3 themed room.
First, their lobby area is very small and not big enough to comfortably have groups wait around. However they mentioned they’ll be expanding to a bigger space soon so that would be great. I liked that there were little puzzles with prizes inside of them on the table and the people there were also very friendly and nice when greeting us, even though we were late.
I can’t really spoil anything but I liked the puzzles inside and the variety of locked ‘things’ to open, as well as the use of the the major items in the room to interpret and figure out the information that we needed. I know that’s vague, but basically I liked the uniqueness of how they used some clues in the room and that made it fun to see and figure out. I would like to come back and visit the other one next time I’m around.

The host and hostess were great! They worked with us getting our people (and baby) into the room. They were helpful when they needed to be and it was a great experience! Will go back when they change the theme.

We were escape virgins! It took us a bit to figure out on how to actually play the game. Once we figured it out we were rocking and rolling. Even though we didn’t win. We definitely had a blast. Great for dates and groups! Remember to be a team!

First and foremost, Lockdown has a pair of excellent rooms. The Casino Heist and WW3 scenarios were challenging, stimulating, and a lot of fun.
More importantly, this is a great place to come and spend an afternoon. I brought a fellow escape room enthusiast from out of town, and we ended up sticking around after our appointments to chat with the delightful hostess (Karen) and our randomly paired escapee team. The staff is knowledgeable, funny, and genuinely cares about the experience.
Whether you’re looking for a group outing or a fun date, I can’t recommend Lockdown Austin highly enough!

I did the WW3 room with some friends a few weeks ago, and I have to say, this is better than other escape rooms I’ve tried (primarily in the Washington DC area). I loved how all of the clues tied into the theme and everything felt like it was there for a reason. Nothing was random. We almost completed the room, but got distracted towards the end and lost focus.
A word to the wise, beware of distractors, and make sure to communicate! Have fun!

We saved the world! This was a great escape room with lots of challenging clues. We can’t wait to try their other room!

Amazing time! I’ve done both the World War 3 Room and the new Casino Heist Room and I can’t rave enough about them. The puzzles are challenging, and the more people you bring with you the better. Every single puzzle you complete gives you a clue for the next puzzle to help you reach your objective, and it is so damn satisfying getting through those puzzles. The staff is wonderful and the puzzle masters are genius. I give the highest praise possible. Get there ASAP!

We all had a great time at Lockdown Austin. The game was a ton of fun and very exciting — I really can’t express the feeling we all had every single time we figured out one of the clues.
We failed to stop WW3 in time (barely!), but we’re excited about coming back again for the Casino when it opens.

I spent my birthday at lockdown Austin, it was so much fun! We didn’t quite save the world but we got close, it was a different and exciting thing to do for a birthday celebration.
They hid a birthday card in one of the clues with a discount, which was so thoughtful and nice! Definitely suggest this place for a fun time!

My husband and I came on
a date night and joined a group of six who all knew each other. They were very welcoming to us. We had a great time and saved the world with nine minutes to spare. Not having done this before, things I’d tell new people are 1) you’d probably want at least a team of 5 – 6 to accomplish this in the time allotted, unless you’re a pro, and 2) it’s not a puzzle room in the sense that you are physically trying to escape the room through vents and such. You’re just solving a series of puzzles, kind of Carmen Sandiego code breaker style. It was really fun and the people running it were very nice. Highly recommend for a fun group game night, a team building activity, or a date night.

We did this for a team building event and it did not disappoint! It was a great experience and an absolute ton of fun! We are looking forward to their expansion to other lockdown rooms so we can go through another one!

Our team of 6 from work did this as our team building event. We have done other events in the past, but this has been the best so far.
We had fun from the minute we walked in the door. We spent time playing with the puzzles on the table while they set up our room (we brought gift cards to hide).
Once in the room we had even more fun working through the puzzles. The puzzles were diverse enough that everyone was able to contribute and it really highlighted our ability to work as a team.
If we would have only had a few more minutes, we would have saved the world. Overall the experience was freaking awesome. We can’t wait to try the Casino experience.

Lockdown Austin was such a great experience and great for team building. We took a group of 6 where not everyone knew each other and had to work together to save the world from World War III. It was awesome to see how each persons skill set or strategy played out and how well everyone listened and worked together. I had done the Panic Room before, and from that experience to this one I thought Lockdown Austin’s theme tied together well and was more organized and friendly. We had a blast and managed to safe the world with 3:38 minutes remaining! Definitely go check it out and be prepared for a challenge!
Seriously so fun and can’t wait for them to add another room for us to try!!!

I was planning for a team offsite and looking for a fun team building activity to do to wrap the day up. A couple people on my team were very excited about doing an escape room so we went ahead and booked it — such a great idea! It definitely brought out different strengths and personalities (in a good way) and made me realize even more what a strong team we have! Of course winning was an icing on the cake ;) It’s the first offsite for our team and I love that it set the tone for our future off sites. Everybody had a lot of fun.
Can’t wait for the Casino room to come out! I’m trying to get other teams in my company to go — yup it’s officially a competition.

Really enjoyed my first escape room experience at Lockdown Austin! Note: the address of 1101 is the entire complex which covers almost an entire block, technically the facility is actually on Academy. (Stay on Academy, pass Music Ln and it will be the first entrance on the left side of the street)
The bf and I were in the room with two other couples. Our mission was to save the world from a potential WW3 bombing situation. I wont reveal anything that actually happened in the room, but I will say the puzzles and everything else included were more challenging than I anticipated. You have one hour to save the world, and unfortunately, we could not make the deadline. (we just needed 5 more minutes!)
Time flew by, and we really enjoyed ourselves. I’d definitely do an escape room/​puzzle room again if they were all like Lockdown!
