First time at this location. First of all, real pain to find & get into a parking space. Ride your Vespa! Second, just don’t bother. If your name has the signature food in it, you should be good at making it. Bread is chewy, heavy & not tasty. Don’t particularly like my food microwaved. Staff is friendly but not really attentive. Prices are fair, but cheap doesn’t mean it’s gotta be tasteless.

If you’re a fan of West Kolaches(Village Bakery or Czech Stop) than get ready to be extremely disappointed! If you’re a fan of cold raw hot dogs stuffed in a roll, than you’ll be in heaven!

I get my staff(because I’m an awesome boss hehe) kolaches here on the reg… And they’re pretty good, not amazing but definitely satisfying! I’m a huge fan of the turkey kolache! It’s not too heavy. Sometimes gal behind the counter is sweet sometimes she needs coffee? Regardless best I’ve found in area.

On our way back to Houston we stooped here for breakfast and coffee. Quite possibly the worst kolaches we have had. My husband got a kolache w a sausage patty in it… he took one bite and put it back in the bag. We also go a cinnamon twist that May have been a couple days old based on how dry it was. My 4 year son wouldn’t eat it. The coffee was horrible! I poured mine out as soon as we got in the car. So disappointed Bc great location and how do you screw up kolaches.

Honestly, these are the worst kolaches I’ve ever had. The cream cheese kolache I got was horrible. The best way I can describe it is a stale dinner roll with cream cheese lightly spread on top of it. The breakfast kolaches were not much better. The bacon had unchewable chunks in it and the eggs tasted like they came from a jug. I don’t know anything about making kolaches and I’m confident that mine would turn out better on the first try. The thing I do know about is eating kolaches, and trust me when I say that these are very disappointing.

I’m not one for leaving reviews except for in extreme situations. since this place was so bad and not at all worthy of its reputation on Unilocal I felt the need to inform the community of their poor quality ingredients and lack of care towards their customer by doing so. Their kolaches are in par to a little Debbie snack, definitely overpriced. It’s disgusting how they utilize there location and customer ignorance to further contaminate the community with poor ingredients all under the Austin local mentality:(not to be all doom and gloom, if you like fast food chains, frozen TV dinners, enriched and gmo ingredients and other unconscious food then this place is for you!!!

Came here to pick up a few different kolaches. Never have had kolaches before and thought the selection was good. We tried many kolaches, here’s a quick review of each. Spinach was ok, Jalapeño cheese was very good, Raspberry was good but preserves were kinda sitting there a while and weren’t super fresh in my opinion, the Polish sausage was greasy and fatty, but tasted ok, and the Egg cheese potato kolache was delicious. Prices are pretty decent. A-ok in my book.

A decent enough kolache. The apricot kolache was tasty. The dough was chewy, and had decent flavor. The Apricot filling was good, but nothing exceptional. The bacon-cheese kolache was good enough. The people there asked me if I wanted it warmed up, but I was in a bit of a rush, so I said no. I should have waited /said yes. It was still okay, but could have been much better. The cream-cheese kolache, much like the apricot one, was a good kolache, but nothing special. All in all it’s an okay place, but I felt a bit rushed when ordering, and it was not at all like being in West. The food was tasty, but not thrilling.

I grew up eating kolaches, made by the czech community of central nebraska, and they didn’t have meat in them. the kolaches I was familiar with were mostly sweet. the closest those REAL(nebraska) kolaches came to savory was the one with poppy seeds. 40 years down the road and kolaches and now popular in texas?! and while you CAN get the authentic varieties here(poppy seed, appricot, cherry etc) you can also get your morning protein wrapped up in that sweet kolache dough. I try to buy my meat/savory kolaches based on what has come out of the oven most recently, and I often get the sweet/fruit kolaches in the day-old bags if I get there early enough. my favorite protein kolache is the ranchero. I don’t like the sausage one. scrambled eggs, chorizo, bacon, jalapeño… these all seem to work well for the breakfast kolache. and even the jalapeño and hotdog is pretty good, if you like jalapeño and nitrates. and this makes for a cheap family breakfast. usually around $ 12 to feed this family of 5.

I stop by this place every once in awhile on the weekends. It’s near Lola’s coffee shop, which is one of my favorite coffee shops. The thing about this place is they make all their Kolaches fresh in the morning and set them out like a donut shop. If you don’t get there early, you will not be having fresh Kolaches. Basically, you will get a microwaved Kolache if you show up later in the day. I always get the jalepeno, cheese and sausage. Jalepeno has good spice, and overall they have good flavor. The staff is always friendly, and this is the only Kolache spot in the area.

I walked in here and felt funny because it looked a little like a kolache museum. The lighting was just funny and the kolaches were behind the register and it looked like they were being guarded! Am i the only one? yeah? … I still think it’s funny. Anyway, I’m a huge sucker for kolaches. When the bread is soft and sweet and the sausage is warm and the cheese is melted. It just makes me smile. This kiiiiinda happened, but not reaaaaaly. I got the jalapeño, cheese and sausage that everyone seemed to be raving about. The bread was fantastic, no problem there. And the kolache was smokin hot, but it was just a regular kolache. It came out to $ 1.40. And I can’t remember how much HOWDY’s are, but I like them better. You can choose from a buttery croissant type of bread or a sweet soft bread. And if you order with cheese it’s actually IN the sausage, which I like better too. Also, I’ll agree with everyone, the parking kinda sucks. But hey, if it’s on your way to work I’m sure this place is great.

Excellent kolaches, although honestly I’ve only done sausage and cheese. Very reasonably priced too, and not crowded in the morning. Polite staff. Parking can be limited, especially around lunch

This place has a lot going for it: — It’s on my way to work — It’s really cheap — The food is good — The staff is nice — They have Ranchero kolaches And one thing not going for it: — I HATE this parking lot But other than that, this place is awesome!

I, being a newcomer to these parts, had never had the opportunity to try a kolache until about a hour ago. I cannot believe I have wasted 30 years of my life without kolaches! I am also greatful, as I would probally be the size of a house by now. I tried the vegetarian potato egg and cheese and am now officially addicted. I have nothing to compare it to, so I don’t know if this company’s version of kolaches are better than most, but they are my new best friends.

Star 1 — Was the service good? While only big enough to be staffed by one, our server was extremely friendly, recommending particular Kolaches based on her preference and telling us which ones were freshest. Star Granted. Star 2 — How were the portions relative to the cost? Lone Star Kolaches’ Kolaches are big enough so that no more than two or three are needed to walk out nice and full. Additionally, at only about $ 1 per Kolache, the prices are absolutely incredible. Stars ¾ — Did the food taste good? Lone Star Kolaches has well more than 20 different types of Kolache, and while most of them are basic combinations of meats and cheeses, they taste amazing. The breading is flaky and delicious while the filling is well-balanced. However, I do wish they had more elaborate combinations along with more veggie options. Single star granted. Star 5 — Would you eat if every day if you could? Nothing beats cheap, filling food, and with so many options, I really could eat at Lone Star Kolaches every single day and be happy. Any trip to West Austin would be incomplete without paying LSK a visit.

I stop by here occasionally to pick up some kolaches for the office. First, I’ve got to say that my first experience with Lone Star Kolaches was at their Lamar location. Every time I went by there it was great. This location seems to be a little off. Sometimes it’s good, sometimes it’s not. Occasionally the kolache will be too cool. Sometimes they microwave it way too long and it’s too hot to eat without waiting 30 minutes. I think the basics are good(sausage and cheese, bacon egg and cheese, etc…). I don’t care for the more exotic stuff(BBQ kolache, pesto, etc…).

I’ll be brief. There’s really only one reason that I’ll stop here. It’s because it’s really fast and it’s one of the few places on the way to my new work place. They also have a decent smattering of savory kolaches that a meat-challenged person like me can eat. But the dough is pretty terrible by comparison. And I’m not even talking by comparison to Czech Stop in West, I’m talking by comparison to Kolache Factory. Plus, while I appreciate the idea of a potato, egg, cheese kolache, it never works out like you’d want it. It’s either not hot enough(cold eggs are ew), or it sucks all memory of salt from your tastebuds. All that being said, I’ll likely be there again sometime when I’m in a hurry and hungry.

Let me make a confession right off the bat: I’m not a big cheese person. Blasphemy, I know. I hear it a lot. I don’t dislike cheese necessarily – I just find it to be wasted calories. And OK, maybe I do dislike melted cheese on my eggs, burgers, etc. The only exception is queso – I AM human, after all. So when I finally checked out Lone Star Kolaches today, I was a bit distressed to see that pretty much all the savory options had cheese. Sausage and cheese. Ham and cheese. Bacon and cheese. Jalapeño and cheese. Polish sausage and cheese. Even broccoli, egg and cheese. Ugggh. I decided to suck it up and got the sausage, jalapeño and cheese and the Chubby(potato, bacon, egg and cheese). And… I liked them. I liked them! I think I’d have liked them more minus the cheese, but still, I liked them. Well, I liked the first one a lot. I wouldn’t get the Chubby again. I’m not sure what was in it… some kind of sauce or seasoning… to be honest, it kind of tasted like ketchup. I don’t have a very sophisticated palate, though, so who knows what it really was. At any rate, I can deal with the cheese, especially since this place is right around the corner from my house. I guess maybe I should go for a sweet one next time. Cream cheese, after all, is a whole different story.

Just had my second visit to Lone Star Kolache… I have to say it’s pretty darned tasty. Yummy, warm, rich bread… tasty fillings. Definitely satisfies the kolache craving. I’ve had jalapeño sausage and cheese, sausage and cheese, and the chorizo and egg varieties. The chorizo and egg is ok but not my favorite… kind of like a breakfast taco but in a kolache covering. I think the other egg plus ham or potato or bacon etc. might be kind of similar. The jalapeño variety is what shined for me. Not too spicy(an actual strip of pepper alongside the sausage! not just peppered sausage) not too cheesy but just right with a bite. I’m back in this shopping strip on the regular… sure I’ll be returning again and again.

A quick update: Follow up visits have produced better results! My favorite Ranchero has been there on three separate visits including this morning. They also seem to be right out of the oven which makes me wonder if they are spying on me. I’m gonna have to keep my eye towards the sky looking for the Kolache chopper hovering over the ranch. Maybe its squirrels with cell phones? I’m also happy to report the quality is excellent. My choices thus far have been just as good as the 38th and Lamar location. I hear by proclaim myself Rooster Sr. a Ranchero Kolache connoisseur!
