I’m so firm on this three star review. It was fine but it was kinda shitty at the same time. The white leather chairs were in desperate need of a good scrub down with a magic eraser. The happy hour specials were pretty good. The vibe was there. The thing that really chapped my ass though was the ‘Leap of Faith’ roll had bacon listed as an ingredient. It arrived and it tasted fine but it was definitely bac-o-bits NOT bacon. So I asked our waitress to be honest and she totally LIED! It looked like bac-o-bits, it tasted like bac-o-bits…it was absolutely bac-o-bits. Which is fine but don’t say it’s bacon because it’s not. It’s bac-o-bits. The myagu or wyagu appetizer was so delicious and the Chorishi roll was really good too. The manager awkwardly picked up our check before we left also, as if she was an anxious server trying to see how much her tip was. I don’t think I would go back or recommend this place to a friend but it wasn’t the most terrible sushi I’ve ever had. I’m sure Austin has more to offer.

It’s a Friday night without school or national holidays. We couldn’t get a table so we sat at the bar to wait for our party. Mike was super attentive despite the rush that came in. Not only was he attentive, but he made drinks beautifully. Maiko happy hour is my favorite, and after a long day, Mike helps me remember why… thank you thank you!

Great happy hour specials and friendly staff! Very reasonably priced sushi bar in the heart of Downtown Austin. The sushi is pretty inexpensive and surprisingly fresh. I was also pleasantly surprised by the selection of beers on tap and for less than $ 4. Our bubbly waitress Shirel was patient and friendly, even with with the lively atmosphere at the time. I will definitely be returning.

Now they charge $ 1 for any side sauce you order, example eel and teriyaki sauce. This is so cheesy and uncalled for. $ 0.50 maybe but $ 1! I only put up with this place because the prices are reasonable for the location but your pretty much always going to have horrible service. Now that I know their prices are going up I’d rather go to another sushi place dt with better service.

I came here with my boyfriend and we ordered off the happy hour menu. Great prices and everything we chose was AWESOME! My favorite was the sake mac and cheese. If you’re a huge mac and cheese fan like me, you’ll looove this mac and cheese! I really enjoyed the atmosphere and will definitely come back often!

Boisterous. Young crowd. Lychee martini was so tasty, but get it on the rocks. Gyoza was some of the best I’ve had. Their happy hour prices are a steal!

My girlfriend and I went here during their daily happy hour and had the best meal we’ve had in a while. The saki macaroni is the best thing you will ever eat… Vegetable tempura is also on point. The fried calamari is delicious and plentiful. And the explosivo roll was pretty amazing as well. I highly suggest doing the tapas style which is super affordable during happy hour. 3-close daily. Awesome place

With sushi places popping up at every corner in Austin, Maiko is definitely mediocre compared to most. Nothing really stands out as far as food, but they do have a great happy hour offered throughout the week. It’s a good place to start your night out. Come earlier if you don’t want to end up waiting for a long time.

I stopped at this place with my friend last night because it was close to my hotel and I love sushi. While we were set right away, everything else took a very long time. It was 25 minutes before we were asked for our food orders, and another 40 minutes before two rolls of sushi came out. Our glasses were frequently empty and we sat like that for long periods of time. It took us another 30 minutes just to get the bill. Outside of the timing, the sushi was incredibly mediocre. Even the plating techniques were poor, which would be unusual for any average sushi restaurant. Between the long waiting times and the mediocre nature of the food, I can’t say I would ever recommend going here.

My favorite sushi happy hour to go in Austin. One of the reason why I like so much it’s because their happy hour goes from 3pm until they close everyday! So, anytime I want to go out with girlfriends and we don’t feel like expending much, we come here. Their White House wine is good, the pineapple sake too. On the rolls my favorite are: spider roll and the black dragon. To start I recommend the gyoza. The only two reasons why I did not give 5 starts, it’s because: 1 very hard to find a parking spot and 2– the staff is bad. I have been going to Maiko’s for 5 years and doesn’t matter what day, slow or busy, the staff has never being good.

This was quite simply the worst meal I have had in Austin. It all started with the service(or lack there of). We arrived on a Tuesday night and they were not overly crowded. We were seated. We waited… and waited… and waited until someone finally came to wait on us after 15 minutes. The server took drink orders and then disappeared for another 15 – 20 minutes. We then ordered our food. We had various rolls. They were bland and uninspiring. The fish was so-so. Despite being prepared fresh, this did not measure up to what you would get at whole foods. I can forgive poor service. I can forgive mediocre food. But the combination is unacceptable. I will not be back.

Since moving to Austin from LA, we’ve been looking for a good sushi restaurant. Maiko is the third one we’ve tried out. It’s located on 6th street, which is the heart of Austin’s music scene. The ambience is urban chic. Good music. Believe it or not, the music is not over powering. You can actually have a conversation without yelling! We ordered the Orange dragon. Rainbow, and California rolls. All I can say is wow! The orange dragon is delicious and not fishy. The California roll is spicy(we added sriracha sauce to give it even more heat). The rainbow roll is my favorite! It was good! What more can I say? If I had one criticism, there’s no parking. Who cares? You’re downtown Austin in the heart of weirdness enjoying great food and drinks. We will be back!

This place is my jam. It’s cheap and almost always happy hour. My favorites are the green dragon and the escolar … Or if I’m being a fatty the sake mac and cheese is on point. Try a quail egg shooter, it’s spicy and unique and only $ 3.

Alright I decided to give happy hour another shot and I have to say the service has improved greatly. Brb Nathan refills my water when its ¾ths full. Brb delicious rolls. Brb my beer arrives faster than amazon prime. Idk if it was an executive decision to improve the speed and service but I ain’t even mad this is impressive.

Well, they were out of(literally) every kind of sake I wanted. And all the specific sushi I asked for. The boat was large in portion, both of sashimi and sushi, but when I say«chef’s choice» I mean give me the best sushi you have, whatever is freshest and tastiest. I didn’t mean give me sixty pieces of salmon, tuna, escolar, and mackerel. That’s not exactly the variety I was hoping for. The young octopus yakitori was good but not amazing. Sauce was a little on the sugary side, but not excessive. Prices on the normal sized portions were reasonable, and the happy hour prices were pretty darn good. Quality was on the better side of average, but not amazing. Given the prices, I think I’d have a better experience if I’d ordered smaller for my friend and I. Server was very friendly and apologetic for being out of things.

Better sushi options: 1. Uchi(premium) 2. Sushi Junai(quality all you can eat sushi) 3. Maiko(low cost above average sushi) Maiko Sushi Lounge is a below average sushi restaurant that has the hope of being considered a «lounge». The service is usually on the slower side and the owner/gm can be rude. With Austin’s copious supply of sushi restaurants I wouldn’t recommend it as Maiko Sushi is a stones throw away and Uchi is a short cab. Only stop here for happy hour prices.

Happy hour pretty much all the time! The fish was fresh, service was quick and friendly, restaurant is clean and spacious, and in a great location. We ordered the Cajun crawfish roll, spicy ocean roll, rainbow roll, and warehouse district roll. All very delicious and at awesome prices during happy hour. Highly recommend for some good sushi downtown. Will be here again soon!

I love their lunch bento boxes. I always go for the salmon teriyaki. It comes with so much food and a great variety. I’ve also been for happy hour and the sake mac and cheese is yummy! They have a good and extensive happy hour menu. This place is probably the most affordable sushi place downtown!
