Went here for the performance of The Government Inspector today. It’s a small, intimate theater in the round. This was the first time I’ve been in this small of a theater and I really enjoyed the intimacy of the experience. We called the day of the performance and were able to get tickets that we picked up at will call. That process was quick and painless and the ticket desk people were friendly and personable. The past was really funny and well acted but this review is specifically for the venue.

So it’s been a while since ol’ John R. has been to the theatre. When a new friend of mine sent me a text that we should go see«The Secret Garden», I said«Sure!» without thinking or realizing that I probably shouldn’t be hemorrhaging funds, but hey. Whatever. I bought the tickets. On the day of the show, I was in a car accident and unable to attend. In my state of being frazzled and ridiculous, my thoughts weren’t about the car, they were«Oh, no! I can’t make the show!» So I called the box office and asked if there was a way I could transfer them to another day or get a refund. It was no problem and the woman made the situation so easy(even though the day we transferred it to was already sold out!). The day of the show, I got to the box office and she knew who I was and handed me my tickets. The lobby has a very beautiful view of downtown Austin. The actual theatre is really nice as well. It’s a theatre in the round, so the shows have to be staged in a very interesting way in order for all four sides to get an enjoyable show. Luckily the performing arts department at St. Edward’s knows what they’re doing. They’re really utilizing this place to it’s full potential! There’s not a bad seat in the house and the chairs are very comfortable. I very much look forward to seeing a show here in the future.
