Mooyah is dead — long live Geaux Burger! We drove up tonight to get a burger and fries fix and were confused — what happened to Mooyah? It’s missing! What is this place? Where Mooyah used to be is now Geaux Burger, an LSU sports-themed place with a dozen television sets around the dining room, blasting commentary about last night’s game. Also, the radio was on, playing music. Somewhere through the din we managed to converse with the manager behind the counter, who said they rebranded in order to gain more business in the evening. On to the food — the burger is just as booyah-licious as ever. The bun seems to have changed somehow, but it’s a good change. It’s sturdier and able to sop up the juice from the meat and veggies better. The bacon was über crispy, which isn’t really my thing, but I understand some like it that way. Fries were very nicely cooked and seasoned. Other than the loud competing soundtracks, my main complaint is that there were way too many strawberries in the milkshake, tipping it out of balance and making it 1) too tart and 2) impossible to drink with a straw. The kids’ shakes looked far too chocolatey as well, although one of them wasn’t properly mixed and had a vanilla center. Next time I’ll stick with plain vanilla. Verdict? Still great food, a bit loud, but worth a visit.

My pregnant friend was raving about Mooyah Burgers and how I had to try it. It wasn’t on the top of my list, I figured it can’t be that hard to satisfy a pregnant woman with a milkshake, burger and fries. So when I walked into Mooyah… it looked like many of the other burger joints that have been sprouting up all over Austin. I ordered a Mooyah Burger which I did not read the small print… it’s two patties instead of one, a small fry and since I was there a kids size shake. :) The fries are good, the shake is delish(they use soft serve ice cream), but the burger is out of this world amazing. Mooyah pays attention to details from the bun to patty to the toppings. I had cheddar cheese, sauteed mushrooms and tomatoes on mine… get the mushrooms they take the burger to another level. Now that I have discovered this wonderful place, I might start to look like I’m with child! ;)

Hmmmm, let’s go with the obvious: Think Mooyah as final dress rehearsal, scramble in some quick tweaks, throw in some peanuts, and voilà – it’s a Five Guys! Actually, Mooyah was the one place on everyone’s burger list that I’d never been to and was looking forward to trying. And yes, it’s good. And yes, it’s worth the trip. But if I had to be strung up by the colon and forced to choose between Mooyah and Five Guys, I’d probably scream and swear but inevitably blabber that Mooyah might have a better fry, but Five Guys is ultimately the better burger. The toppings are clones of each other. Incidentally, you get less fries at Mooyah, but so what? They’re really good. Shall we cavil? If you’re an aged person using the pre-order form in line, you’ll need your reading glasses. Since you will spend time waiting at the single soda station, bring a book. The fountain dispenses more carbonation than syrup, so you won’t need your Coke taste buds. And during the Monday lunch when I was there, the entire floor throughout the restaurant seemed unusually slick and greasy to me – be careful wearing your leather-soled f*ck-me pumps in this place. FWIW, this was the first time I’ve actually started to feel burger patrol burnout, which is unexpected and novel to me. Maybe it’s time for a respite with Austin Tofu Patrol.

Still the same friendly service as before. Still the same great burgers I’m used to getting from Mooyah, too. Only now I can have a beer alongside my meal! This gets two thumbs way up from me. So if you’re hanging with the dude on a Sunday and need a place to eat it’s probably a safe bet to suggest this place. Because now the dude can sit and drink beer while watching football on one of three flat-screens as they pretend to listen to you go on and on about how your latest workout routine and diet are really paying off. And you can stuff yourself silly with a gigantoid burger and a crapload of crispy fries without him ever noticing! It’s a win-win dining destination.

Mooooooyah is a MOOYEAH even in the department of veggie burgers! It is not the easiest task to find decent black bean burgers, but I finally did over the holiday weekend. I am eventually eliminating meat from my diet, so I tried the black bean burger. It was awesome… the texture was a bit different but I liked the taste of the beans, bell peppers, carrots, onions, and whatever else went into that thing… the burger itself is only around 5 dollars and the fries… GOODGAW! The sweet girl working there was not kidding… she filled our bag with fries even though we ordered medium… and where I am from, we used to have a place called Big Ed’s hamburgers that had the same long greasy, brown fries that Mooyah does. That brought back some memories! Everything was good there, that day. It was under $ 20 for two people to both have bean burgers, fries, and drinks… I think that is pretty average price-wise but it was very good, too! Enjoy it!

I went to catholic school. Some of you may be familiar with the characteristic shenanigans of such an institution. I’m still recovering. One of my fondest memories involves lunchtime. Seniors(8th graders) were really important people, and when it was our turn to be at the top of the food chain we were given the privilege… of… helping in the kitchen at lunch. Four lucky eighth-graders left class 30 minutes early, proudly donned aprons, and helped get lunch going. We were so cool, and we knew that the younger classes were as jealous of us as we’d stupidly been of our predecessors. I remember removing scalding hot plates from the industrial dishwashing machines. Through all that fun we got to eat delicacies too intricate to be prepared at my house: hotdogs with sauerkraut, fish sticks, mac & cheese, and hamburgers. A handful of years later: Mooyah. I picked up a call-in order between meetings. On my way back to the office, I started doing what all blessed Americans have the right to do in their cars: eat the fries*. I was concerned I’d have to consume them without ketchup, or that I’d do something hasty and make a condiment mess in the car. No need. They’re perfectly salted and seasoned and require no ketchup catastrophe to be delicious. I love the tasty crispy burned bits on these skin-on fries. At my desk, I set down the heart attack bag. I whipped out the foil-covered burger and thought: dang, did I accidentally get double the meat? Because this thing is huge, and I’m not sure I can handle it all. And then I unwrapped it. It was all show, little meat. Gristly meat. Catholic school meat, from 8th grade. Prepared in fact with the same little bits of onions, with a slight update on the bread. Folks, the memories came flooding in with every bite. Should I have eaten it? Probably not. This wasn’t the most sophisticated patty I’ve seen recently, I can tell you. Still, for a few moments I missed my plaid scrunchy, the one that matched my school uniform. By God if I’d had it nearby I would’ve worn it on my hair while eating that burger. *Free fries. Google«____food place» & «coupon» and you’ll find one for just about anywhere.

If you look at some of my other reviews, I reference the«top 5 burger joints» in Austin. Five Guys, Hill-Bert’s, Mighty Fine, P. Terry, and MooYah. MooYah is by far the least known of the five. But damn are they good(good enough to make my list). The fries are kinda«dirty» and are fair(though they tend to drench them in salt). Note that a «small» can feed two even though it says it’s a serving for one(so skip ‘em and save room for the burger). The burgers are simply fantastic. Two patties of fresh meat with a juicy taste. The cheeseburgers, while drenched in cheese, do not overwhelm the taste of the meat(Elevation could learn a thing or two from these guys). And the MooYah sauce comes out with each bite, but again, doesn’t overwhelm. I also order onions on my burgers, and those were nice and fresh and tasty. You can not go wrong with a Mooyah burger. Oh, and the sign on the window says they’re serving beer & wine now. W00T! BTW, many have said that this is about as close as you can get to In & Out without being in CA.

One of six new burger places I have tried in the last few weeks. I ordered the burger with fries and a coke, the standard fare there. The burger was very good. I would go back with friends. They have a lot of toppings you can choose for your burger. The french fries were not very good: crispy outside and soft empty inside. I will not touch a fry there again. The non-trans fat oil that they cook the fries in completely destroys the taste in my opinion. The shakes and drinks are fine. The produce always seems to be fresh. The cost of the burger is just under $ 6 or so, depending on if you get a single or double burger. The staff was friendly and efficient in getting the burgers to your table. At this time there is no beer served there. Since there is a large ooze factor from the burger, the napkins they have cannot stand up to the drippings. You need to protect your shirt(and tie if you wear one) from the drippings with lots of napkins. The ooze factor of the burgers depends on how you cook it, with medium rare having a lot of ooze. The condiments you choose can have drippings as well. How do they compare to Mighty Fine Burgers, Elevation Burgers, Terra Burgers, 5 Guys Burger, or Gabbi’s? They would come in 1st in burgers and 6th in fries. Summing up: Burgers very good; fries not so good; service good; store nice; location fine; ample parking. Would I go back? Yes with friends, but only if that is where they chose to go; by myself, yes but rarely. Note: My disclaimer on fries, since I did not really like any of the fries due to the new cooking oils, I cannot say that you would not like them. So keep that in mind as you read my comments on the fries. Also note that all the new burger places I tried were a cut above the McDonald’s and Wendy’s of the world and their cost reflect this.

Although my husband and I don’t agree, this is my new FAVORITE burger joint! The Mooyah Burger is a ½ pounder for $ 5 and the Junior ¼ lb Cheeseburger is $ 4 and the«serves 1» fries served all three of us! The fries were salty, the prices were reasonable, the burgers were juicy, the bread was super fresh and it was soooo good. It was nearly empty tonight(Tuesday at 7) so the vibe wasn’t hoppin’ or anything but it was clean and suuuuper tasty. I’d rather eat Mooyah than take a day trip to San Antonio, meet a unicorn or hang out with my dog. There, I said it.

Upon entering the door I found the staff to be very friendly and helpful with my order. The wait for my order was a tag long considering the relative small number of customers, but I suppose hot fresh food takes time. The food was good but not exceptional by any means. I’ll have to give this joint a couple more times to see if it’s worth all the hype.

Solid burger place. Really pleasant inside with big TVs and friendly service. I love all the free toppings. Basically you can get a cheeseburger for like $ 5 and go nuts loading it with all kinds of toppings. I got mine with lett, toma, pickles, onions(chopped, nice!), ket & must. It made for a really tasty burger. I got an order of small fries and there was nothing small about it. They were absolutely wonderful! This is the biggest surprise of my visit. I wasn’t expecting much and they exceeded my expectations. It made for a very filling mid afternoon meal. That is saying a lot for me because on the weekends that is when I get that bottomless pit hunger thang. I can’t eat like this at night.

This is an In-n-Out style burger with thin patties that are meant to be eaten in twos. As you walk down the big aisle you grab a bag to write your order on — Which Wich style. This burger was formidable. Sadly, I think the weakest link was the meat. But, everything else really brought the burger up. I ordered the junior(1 patty) with grilled onions, cheddar, mushrooms, tomato, lettuce and mustard. The buttery bread was my favorite, the free toppings were all done correctly and fresh. However, the meat was just mediocre– for the size maybe it’s difficult to pack a lot of flavor and due to the thin patty maybe it’s also difficult to keep juicy and easy to overcook. My boyfriend ordered the regular size(2 patties) and he had more of a meat taste– but he said it was ordinary decent meat flavor, nothing special. The fries are hearty and not as crispy as I prefer. We accidentally ordered a large order of fries to share and this is clearly for at least 3, maybe 4 people minimum. The strawberry shake was really good– much better than Mighty Fines for some reason. Although, it’s pretty small, but then again it’s $ 2.99. The atmosphere is pretty typical of these places that have been popping up. One plus is no communal seating. I was sad that it was kind of empty because if you’re into burgers the quality is superb for the price. With a regular w/cheese, junior w/cheese, large fries, a shake and a water our total was $ 17.xx. This place has healthier options(a turkey burger) and is a-ok to take vegetarian friends(veggie burger). I would definitely come back if I’m in the area and some of my other favorites are packed or if someone else wanted to go– but, I would not go out of my way or suggest it on my own. However, I’m also not a huge burger fan. I probably end up having about 10 burgers a year and can’t stand most fast food burgers.

Since Mooyah opened it has been our burger place. We have stopped going to fudruckers, top notch, frisco shop and all the rest. This is the place I get hamburgers now. They have a great online ordering system, and even an order by txt system. The menu is simple fries burgers and a hotdog. Nothing fancy but done in an awesome way. As a SoCal transplant this is the closest thing to in and out there is here in Austin. Have em toss special sauce onions and relish on your burger and you got yourself an amazing meal. The staff is very friendly and the store is very very clean. All the produce is set out on a pallet out where you would stand while waiting to put in your order, but now that I think of it I have never had to stand there and wait to put in my order. Damn I want one now plz.

Ever since I left Austin and the University of Texas it seems that all these new burger joints have been popping up all over the place. Good thing their openings were later or else I probably would’ve gained 100 extra pounds on top of the other 100 extra pounds I had harvested for life. The first«new» burger place I went to was P. Terry’s and it was underwhelming. I hoped Mooyah’s was not another place that did not live up to the hype. My friends and I arrived there at 8pm on Friday night and in this shopping center with Trudy’s, Benihana’s, Chilis, and Pluckers… parking is always hard to find. The place was large, bright and clean. I like how there are ordering menus in line that allow one to customize their burger with a nice Crayola. The food came out piping after about 5 minutes. I had the Mooyah burger with fixin’s and the special Mooyah sauce. This creamy Thousand Island-like sauce is reminiscent of the much heralded In-N-Out. The fries are tasty and made fresh daily from real potatoes. The Vanilla milkshake was good but IMO. it is very hard to make milkshakes taste bad. The portions are good sized and the menu does not lie when it gives you estimates on how many people each size serves. My friends were too liberal in their food intake estimates. The price was rather steep for fast-food(my meal was about $ 11) but Mooyah’s definitely lived up to the hype.

«That IS a tasty bur Ok, ok I will refrain from the Pulp Fiction references(this time). Mooyah = burgers. Cow, turkey & veggie, with your choice of items to put on ‘em, and lettuce wrap as a bun alternate. Better quality fry oil, fries not drowned in salt, burgers ‘never frozen’. They also have shakes. «That’s a pretty fuckin good milksh– Whoops. Actually I don’t know how good it was, Monica had the bebe one and didn’t slam it down(probably cause it was the same temperature in the place as it was outside, 45), and I don’t dig on… dairy. The giant seating area is nice, and the big screen tvs strategically located so you can see ‘em whichever direction you are facing make ignoring your dining party a snap! Frankly back when I still ate burgers, I liked Fran’s on Soco the best. Can’t really explain why, I just did. Still, Mooyah is a decent little chain that is stepping up to improve the food quality in a fast-foody joint. I think they deserve 3.5 stars, but alas, still no half-star option in the rating box.

I’m on a burger binge. Someone please stop me! I ate lunch at Mooyah today. They make a great burger and fries. I was surprised by how much it was like Five Guys. It’s hard to see much difference. With that said, it’s great to know both are here. They’re turning out great old fashion burgers which can be a beautiful thing. So much for one New Years resolution.

To summarize our experience, we had our first bite of the burger, looked at each other, and said«I think we found our new favorite burgers in town». A french fry confirmed it. Walking out of lunch satisfied, throwing away a good chunk of our fries because we were too stuffed sealed the deal even more. Today at lunch, we decided to try this place. I read the Unilocal reviews beforehand so I knew what was up. I got the shout, though it was a little quieter and out of sync, and we sauntered up to the counter to order. I got the Jr burger with mustard, ketchup, extra pickles, lettuce, tomato, and onion. Everything a good burger should have, imo. Was going to try jalapenos and buffalo sauce too, but for the first time, I just wanted a standard. Joel ordered a regular with just about the same things, minus tomato and ketchup with the Mooyah sauce. We saw that the regular fries serve 1 or 2, and that sounded fine for us, so we got those as well. After what seemed like forever because we were hungry and it smelled so good(though probably less than 5 minutes), they called our number, brought us our food, and we unwrapped a little slice of heaven. Things I like about a burger — thin patty, check. Flavorful and juicy, yet thoroughly cooked — check. Crunchy and fresh toppings — check. Yummy bun that was the right size — check. Fries that tasted like they used to be potatoes and were perfectly seasoned — check. All this for under 11 dollars? I am glad I am no longer the glutton I used to be, or I could possibly just have set up a tent in the corner and lived here. It was THATGOOD peoples. He commented that the two patty burger was too much(though it WAS finished, every bite), and we actually left about a quarter of the regular fry order(split between the two of us). Next time, with 2 junior burgers and a small fry to split, we’ll have lunch for under 10 bucks, which is UNHEARD of for us anymore, since we don’t eat fast food. BTW, this doesn’t count, it actually tastes like real food, not like Taco Hell or Booger Fling. And I don’t have a stomach ache for 2 days like I did the last time I put fast food in my belly, so I will be back! Go eat a burger and make your tummy happy!

came here with a super burger craving after watching«The Best Burger in New York» episode of How I Met Your Mother. My craving was satiated. I ordered the Mooyah burger with special Mooyah sauce, sauteed mushrooms, jalapenos, pickles, lettuce, tomato, and American cheese. I also got the regular sized fries and the regular sized strawberry milk shake. I love the buns… they remind me of the kinda bread you can get in Taiwan — a liiiitle sweet, layered, doesn’t fall apart easily. The fries were a little too limp for my taste… I prefer nice & crispy fries but they weren’t too salty. The shake was really good & I’m still craving one. I haven’t had the Mighty Fine shakes yet but I’ve had numerous friends tell me that the Mooyah ones trump the MF ones. We’ll see. And yes, this place has the A/C jacked up. It’s freaking cold in there.

NOTE: The Unilocal map is wrong. Mooyah Burger is located in the Crossroad’s Shopping Center between Chili’s and Benihana’s. «Welcome to Mooyah Burger!» Loud greetings from the ever vigilant employees when you enter. So, count on a friendly staff who seem genuinely pleased about their burgers and fries. Bacon cheeseburger — the mister’s personal favorite. He loves their buns. He loves my buns, too, but I digress. Iceberger — your burger wrapped in iceberg lettuce – gluten-free. My favorite. Veggie burger — I will try this next time. All the burgers are juicy and tasty. Each burger has TWO meat patties. There are turkey burgers, grilled cheese and hot dogs, too. A plethora of free toppings — lettuce, tomato, onion, jalapenos, grilled onions, mushrooms, Mooyah Sauce, ketchup, mustard, mayo, A1, BBQ sauce, and buffalo sauce. Shakes — Vanilla, Chocolate and Strawberry — thick and creamy. Delicious fries perfectly prepared. Love the crispy outside and soft inside of these babies. Some peeling left on which just adds to the great flavor.
