Went to the vintage video game art show here and saw some awesome art! The light up mario piece was awesome I would have bought it if it hadn’t already been sold! I really liked the Legend of Zelda pieces too. Side note, my friend Josh Meadows of Haven Meadows told me about this place and he has his Bone Sculptures displayed next-door. Definitely worth checking out if your coming down, just ask Aaron about it and he will let you into the Bone Sculpture gallery!

My friend Matt Warren was involved in the Avant Geek show at Phoenix Trades. So are they still running a hardware store here, or is it straight up art? I’m not sure, and for me, that adds to the experience. If Aaron is the guy picking who gets to be in the show, he’s got a good eye and some decent connections. The space is pleasant and was easy to mill around in. They had some refreshments in the back. They are on a portion of 5th Street that really should be relabeled an alley, with barely enough room for two cars to pass. Should this place get popular, parking will be at a premium. Looking forward to seeing what’s next there. Go support your local artists.

While visiting my son in Austin, Texas I was invited my his friend to attend a reception at this art gallery. Over the last 50 years have visited both public and private art galleries all over Europe, the US, Asia, Africa and South America, so while I am not an artist I appreciate interesting artwork. I was very impressed by this relatively new gallery and the brilliant concept envisioned by the curator, a nice young man named Aaron. He took an old lumber company in the quaint East Austin neighborhood and decided to turn into a gallery cum community center for artist and those who are in construction and decorating. There are many artists in this«Greenwich Village» of Austin, and the concept sounds like a winner to me. He intends to connect everyone in the neighborhood from artistic carpenters to high end artists. Thus he seeks not only a multimedia, but a multi-trades venue across all sorts of classes. He encourages artists from all walks of life who can gain synergy from each other. The curator said the owner of the lumber company had played an important roll in the gallery opening. He said the owners had been on the location many years and understood how the gallery could function. The reception was for the opening of a show entitled Home Show. All art connected with homes was game for display. There was a wooden sculpture that served as a sitting place outside, and inside were various paintings. Somehow, the concept really turned me on. At the reception this bright young curator gathered a large group of artistic types, who seemed to really enjoy mingling. If you are ever in Austin I recommend you go visit if you appreciate eclectic artists.
