STEAK AND MAC & CHEESE CROQUETTE SANDWICH Before I explain that further… Why hello there new resident of the Gourdoughs /Odd Duck trailer park! Let’s be honest, when you’re going up against quite arguably the two best trailer eateries in Austin(and possibly the nation), you’ve got stiff competition. HOWEVER, Pick Up Stixx is the perfect accompaniment. Hungry for some dinner before Gourdoughs, but not really feeling Odd Duck wait time and fancy food? Pick Up Stixx fills your trailer grub desires. Plus, they had truly phenomenal service when we were there, that alone is good enough to bring me back. They’ve got a great menu of kabobs, but what really jumped out at me and throttled my stomachly desires were there croquette sandwiches. Sounds amazing, right? You have no idea. We came to visit Gourdoughs after a full dinner at Home Slice(already stuffed), and after we ordered at Gourdoughs, noticed the new trailer. I went over to investigate while our doughnut was getting fried, and instantly plucked out the $ 3 for the Steak and Mac & Cheese Croquette sandwich when I saw it. My wife protested, but that was soon over. There was no stopping me at this point. So yeah, it was freaking amazing. You imagine in your head steak and mac & cheese deep fried on a sandwich, and you know it can’t possibly live up to it. However, the sleeper part of the dish came up to win — the bread! The bread used on these things is great — soft, warm and toasty but doesn’t overwhelm. It definitely made the sandwich for me. The croquette itself is really good. Basically two square fried items filled with mac & cheese and some steak, you can’t really go wrong there. I’d just eat a stack of those by myself, honestly. Anyway, this place is definitely a great alternative to grab some dinner or lunch next to Gourdoughs if you’re not up for Odd Duck(or they’re closed). Visit them, marvel at the great food and amazing service!

The menu boosts some fine meats on a stick and let’s face it… you can’t go wrong with meat on a stick. You can choose from a variety of sauces, but in many cases the marinade is flavorful enough and the accompanying veggies on a stick are divine. The beef stick was pretty chewy unfortunately, but the lamb is freaking fantastic. The proprietor informed us that he buys the meat from the only apple orchard in Central Texas, which added to the flavor. My personal favorite is the Beefy Mac; a crocket slider of New York strip steak and macaroni and cheese. However, I really enjoyed the bread as well. We were brought a slice straight from the over that was dusted in, what I think was, pretzel salt. The trailer will be moving from it’s spot in the SoFi park on the corner of Live Oak down to the lot shared with Odd Duck and Gourdough’s soon so keep an eye out!

My Favorite place to eat in Austin. I have eaten here about 5 times now and have always enjoyed each dish and side including the lamb, veggies, the Cowabunga, and the pierogi. The lamb has been consistently tender and flavorful. This is the best lamb I’ve had in Austin and some of the best I’ve ever had. They clearly care about where they get their ingredients. The marinade permeates the lamb and veggies unlike other places that seem to pour marinades over the meat only during cooking. The pierogi I had was a delicious blend of cheese, spinach and herbs packed inside a baked(fried?) ball of dough. It was delicious and very filling. The cowabunga is a type of veggie burger but with a sweet, juicy, tenderness. It is the best veggie«burger» I have ever had anywhere. The sauces have been inventive, tangy, unique, and usually a perfect compliment to the whatever entrée I’m having. The bread is always flavorful too and that is one of the touches that makes it so obvious that they care about each element. Each element is unique and flavorful. They clearly love sharing their genius for flavor. Add to the great food a consistently pleasant and accommodating staff. They are always pleasant without being fake. They seem to get along well and honestly enjoy what they are doing. They have live music some nights too.

***** Jan. 2011 edit: Pick-up Stix is now renamed Trey’s Cuisine and is at: 1219 S Lamar Blvd Austin, TX78704 ***** ***** November 2010 edit: I’m duty-bound to tell you that the sliders and perogi here are nothing special. Stick to the kebobs. The perogi were just fried potato logs. Bland, bland, bland. ***** Pick up Stixx(Kabobs and More) is in a grubby dirt lot on the west side of South First Street. While the illustrious South Austin Trailer Park & Eatery further north sports a fire pit and great people-watching, here the greatest feature seems to be a very old black dog, grumbling until someone offers to throw the tennis ball it clutches in its mouth. Don’t be fooled – this place is worth your time. I’d had the amazing $ 4 Reuben and $ 2.50 salmon taco at the trailer next door and was headed back for more when I opted for the kebab place instead. $ 4.25(and tax) got me a lamb kebob(four chunks of mint– and soy-marinated meat), a veggie kebob(onions, peppers, mushrooms and pineapple), and a thin slice of crunchy toast. Apparently you can choose from a range of sauces; I asked Tony(who used to work at El Arroyo and who could possibly be the only nice person in the history of Earth to have done so) behind the counter to give me his favorite. I think it was the orange chili sauce; it didn’t really add all that much. In fact, the kebobs weren’t anything you couldn’t make on your grill at home. And I could have taken the lamb for beef. The pineapple was an excellent touch, though. And the toast was a standout. And $ 1.75 for a tall bottle of Mexican Coke hit the spot. Not as cheap as some of the trailers, and not as awesome as the best of them. But very good.

Pick Up Stix is a trailer that serves quality food for a great price. I had a ½ order of chicken with the sesame glaze sauce, which came with 2 grilled skewers– 1 chicken and 1 veggie for only $ 3! It was healthy and refreshing, especially in the summer heat. The people there seem really passionate about their job and were incredibly nice. They gave my boyfriend and I flavored ice cubes while we waited for our food, which was awesome. Give this place a try!

When I read about Pick Up Stix on Thrillist I was super excited to try their Kebobs and put it on our trailer tour for my sister’s visit. Located at the South First Trailer Park Pick Up Stix was our second stop and I was glad to see the ½ kebobs for only 3.00. The super friendly guy working the stand was offering up NY Strip, Lamb, Pork, Chicken and tofu kebobs with rice, focaccia and perogis as sides and fresh fruit purée sno cones. My Sis and I shared the ½ 3.00 portions of the Pork marinated in pineapple with the orange chile sesame glaze and the Chicken marinated in wine with the Honey Ancho sauce. There are 14 sauces for dipping but honestly the meat is so well marinated and tender the sauce is not necessary. We also shared the Perogi’s 242.00 perfectly fried dough wrapped around mashed potatoes and a 3 cheese blend. For now they are open Mon — Sat 10:30 — 2Pm close during the heat of the day and reopen 5 – 9:30PM closed Sunday but that might change soon during football season…

Q: If one excels at sauciness, does it really matter what the main meal is??? A: Inappropriate playfulness is best served with grilled meat and vegetables on a stick, followed by shaved ice with a pure fruit pure‘. Choose a sauce: Sweet Jalapeño Tomato Preserve! Sweet and fresh and spicy and then hot. Do not miss. Satay! Thick, dark, rich, peanutty. Choose a meat or vegetables: The NY Strip in house marinade, Lamb in mint and sweet soy marinade, and Pork in pineapple marinade were all extremely tender and well-seasoned. I guess that would be the definition of a successful marinade, huh? I did not try the Chicken in white wine marinade nor the Vegetarian in herb vinaigrette. Open just 3 weeks, this trailer food court is at the SW corner of Live Oak and First and accessed from Live Oak. The curiousity here is the«and More» title. What goes with Kabobs? It makes sense that a kabobelaria that loves to make as many sauces as this one would also love to pure‘ some fresh fruit and make some awesome hawaiian shaved icy coldness… but who knew that«and More» included SNOWCONES?

The food is amazing! With 4 choices of meats that have been marinating before they are skewered and grilled, veggies, fifteen sauces, plenty of side items and desert options you can’t go wrong! This is located at the new SoFi food court on the corner of South 1st and Live Oak. The owner is a real cool down to earth guy with a «keep it real» attitude. Everything is made from scratch. Go check out the best new trailer in Austin!
