it aint bad nor the best. if someone suggested it id say«ok», aside from the food they have giant booths, its all counter service cafeteria style, not too crazy busy.

Found the rub in the brisket to be too peppery for my taste. Didn’t care for the pulled pork either. Maybe it was the bbq that the pork was drenched in. I felt that both meats were overcooked. Broccoli salad os not the sweet type you often find. Was quite blah. Raw broccoli, carrot and onion tossed lightly with a mayo based sauce. Blah.

We did a taste test here while looking for a BBQ to cater our wedding and it was great. Not the best BBQ in town, but it is good and the catering price, offering and level of service were all fantatic! There are a few locations in town and since the wedding we have tried a few more. I find their quality very consistent and reasonably price. While there might be a small wait at some locations it is not too bad. Overall, I can highly recommend if you are looking for a quick, good and reasonably priced BBQ.

This was one of the first restaurants that I tried when I moved to Austin. UT had them catered. It was incredibly delicious barbecue! When you are looking for some affordable and quick smoked eats, I highly recommend coming to this place. They have a wide selection of sides and desserts. The service has always been friendly and great, too. It’s a bargain place for local students; they give 10% when you show your student ID!

This review is for the Pok-e-jo’s at 4109 South Capital of Texas Highway, Austin, TX78704. Good flavored and juicy meats with good portions, good sides with a wide variety, helpful and friendly staff, reasonable prices, fairly quiet, calm, peaceful, and clean location.

I guess it depends on what you order whether you really love this place or not. I really dig Poke-e-Joe’s. My main«go-to» is pretty simple. I usually skip all of the plates listed on the menu and just request exactly what I want. I generally order about a half pound of meat, and a side. It’s more meat that I will usually eat in one sitting, but you can always re-visit your leftovers later! Anyway my favorite combination is ¼ lb of pork loin, and ¼ lb sausage. No bread. Salad or cole slaw. This not only ends up being less expensive than the regular plates, but you get more of the good stuff, which in my opinion is those delicious smoked meats. In a town that is BBQ obsessed, it’s really hard to stand out. I think P-Joe’s gets a lot of its flack because it’s not a cool little hole in the wall. However, I think it’s delicious, and the service is always extremely friendly. Its a great place for lunch with a co-worker or on your own!

I should have read the reviews before wasting 10.99 + tips on this place. I went this afternoon for lunch and I ordered half a chicken plate and I expected half a chicken but all I got was one piece of white meat and little pieces around it. I think this is a rip off. I did order ½ a chicken at Rudy’s and I did get half a chicken. I like to have a refund for my meal from this place. Also it is miserable and boring. I love Rudy’s so go there.

Sadly the second time I went, the person in charge from last time wasn’t there and standards were lower. I ordered a three meat plate: brisket, sausage, and pork. For the most part it was good but the pork was dry and cold and was rather chewy. I only rate it three stars because of how disappointed I was considering my first experience.

I’ve had the chopped beef and the sliced beef at this restaurant and also they catered a function for work and I had their beef and chicken fajitas. The BBQ beef is good, but it doesn’t rise to the level of what I expect from Austin BBQ brisket. It is also rather expensive, on par with the prices you would find at the high end BBQ spots around town. They do have a good selection of sides. That’s the good part of the review. Their fajitas are just not very good. I realize this is a BBQ restaurant, but they shouldn’t offer fajitas for catering if they aren’t going to deliver a great product. The chicken was OK tasting, not a lot of flavor. The beef tasted like it had been swimming in a bath of liquid smoke and some spices that I couldn’t identify. I really wanted to like them, but the flavor was just kind of off putting. I know a lot of folks like this place for their bbq, but I do not recommend the catered fajitas.

I dont consider it outstanding, but its worth 4 stars. Food is worthy of 4 stars. Love the pork loin. the sides are delicious. The iced tea is great. The condiment bar is always clean and stocked. Food comes out quickly. The people who work here are nice. The bathrooms are clean. The booths are comfortable. The wireless internet is fast, but there are no outlets to charge if needed.

I was not overly impressed with the food here. It wasn’t very«bbq». The staff was friendly enough, but I wouldn’t eat here on a regular basis… maybe in a pinch.

Its hard to eat cheap here. But you walk away with a sense of accomplishment and shame that comes with the evil pleasures of life, and you need a shower afterward and you scrub but the pain doesnt go away. But youll grin about it later.

Love this location, love the staff and above all, the BBQ! WHY would you wait in line for hours or a day at that other hyped up BBQ place on 11th Street? I mean go ahead, Franklins is good, but Pok-e-Jo’s is better! I will be done eating and out enjoying the day before you move three feet in the line! Go to Pok-e-Jo’s, it is just round the corner on I-35 and Hancock Center.

Delicious BBQ sauce, turkey, sausage, mustard potato salad, Mac n cheese, Texas toast and pickles. Beats out any place in this neighborhood that I’ve tried in 10 years and very affordable. 2 meat plate with sides $ 10. Both reg and spicy bbq sauces are great but LOVE the spicy.

Some of the doctors at my work decided to treat us to Pok-e-Jo’s. The manager was super friendly, I wish I got his name because he was super helpful. I also liked the fact that we could order our meals online. We ordered the 2 meat plates but we all shared with each other. We got the brisket, chicken, turkey, and ribs. It was really good! The sides we got were Broccoli/Rice Casserole(not my favorite), fried okra(Yum), baked potato casserole(Yum), green bean casserole(Yum Yum) banna pudding(really good), corn bread casserole(I liked it alot really good), and peach cobbler(my co-worker didn’t like it because it didn’t have a pie crust it was more of a breading crust. She did eat all the peaches just not the crust. I would definetly go back for BBQ. Super friendly staff, huge sides, clean resteraunt, and decent BBQ.

The folks at this place do an awesome job of welcoming you and serving up some very respectable bbq. The chicken is off the chain good! Bonus: you can sub a desert for one of your sides on a combo plate.

This is Texas, I expected the moist brisket to be much better than it was. It was not bad but I have had much, much better from the food trucks in Austin. They did give you a nice big salad. So all in all it was ok. I would go back if I was in a pinch for some bbq. Staff was friendly.

I had the pork ribs, pulled pork, Mac n cheese, and baked potato. All of it was really good and had a great flavor. The staff were super friendly and helpful. The only bad thing was that they were out if sausage and that was what I really wanted to try. Hopefully next time they will have some. *Updated review! I went back and finally got some of their sausage! YUMMY they def deserve all 5 stars!
