Practice Yoga Austin

I am *not* the kind of person who loves a sweaty, packed room with mere inches between mats. I sat down in the dark, windowless space, surrounded by other people, and wasn’t sure I’d be able to tune out the noise. But then Shanti opened class by thanking us for making space, and reminding us that that’s what the practice is about: making space in our lives for yoga, in our communities to practice it, making space for compassion in our hearts. She so quickly and powerfully switched my attitude I was blown away.
As an out-​of-​town visitor and yoga teacher, I was really thrilled with the level of instruction at Practice Yoga Austin. I got individual attention even in packed classes; Shanti and Keily gave excellent cues and created a wonderful space.

I cannot express how much this studio means to me.
Around 1 year ago I found myself disappointed with either (and sometimes both) the high prices or lack of knowledgeable teachers at studios around town, and tried out PYA at the recommendation of a friend and teacher. Immediately I felt I had arrived at home. I have read other reviews which state complaints about not being greeted immediately upon arrival, and I am almost certain that no one jumped up and down for my entrance upon my first visit. It in no way affected my mood or class. I can say, however, that first class was love at first asana, and that love has only continued. I don’t know of any other studio where I can pay $ 5 and pick any teacher, any class, any time of day and feel as nourished and fulfilled as I do at Practice. I decided to take their 200 hr TT last spring, and it was one of the best decisions I have ever made. There is truly something for everybody here.

Everything about this space and its teachers is perfect. I wouldn’t go anywhere else for yoga. Seriously – try it out if you haven’t. Get there early as parking can be tricky during peak hours.

So let me make a suggestion, it says donation based, but if you’ve got $ 15 – 20 to spare, pay it. You’re making up for the others that can’t by doing the good deed. Also that yoga teacher can keep on thriving as a teacher, affording to learn more and gain skills, with a life dedicated to learning and teaching the practice. Seriously, think about it, put your money towards the things you love, fund the teacher, fund the practice. Yes of course your presence is lovely too.
I dropped in for one class. It was with Courtney around 6:30pm, I think, on a Wednesday night. It was a fun class. I had the flu for a week and had not done much movement yoga or running or anything, so I was ecstatic to be at a yoga class, any yoga class. Having the teacher just move me wherever they like and the community to do it with was a gift!
Her class was fun… We eased into poses sans music for maybe the first 10 – 15 minutes, then dub step began to blast through the speakers loudly as we began to get into the vigorous part! Some times, some days this would have drove me nuts, but this day, this time, this place, the magic of Austin, the gentle ease into it, whatever it was, I was totally okay with it, and I’m so grateful for that. The class was challenging and fun. We were inverting, we were arm balancing and I was for sure sweating profusely. Yay, I love it when that happens! The savasana was nice and sweet too with plenty of time to relax.
If you’re new in town or browsing yoga studios, this is a good one!
Good vibes and clean with a spacious changing area and sink in the back to freshen up. And even a mirror if you want to get all fancy, post-​yoga.
I would be a regular if I was a local to Austin for sure!

I. Love. Practice. Yoga. Austin. The teachers are top notch, and the yoga is consistently high quality. The space is beautiful, clean, and comfortable. Donation Yoga is the only way I practice, and this is the best in town (by far).

Looking for a super chill place to practice yoga in Austin? This is the spot. Great laid back vibe and awesome teachers! My personal favorite is Stacie Hawkins. I am not at an advanced level and I was pleasantly surprised her class welcomes all levels. What’s really great about her class is she always offers a more challenging tweak for each pose she takes you through. Check this place out if you are looking for a super chill place to practice yoga.

My practice deepens with every class I take here! I’ve taken classes from most of the instructors at this point. All are very knowledgeable, passionate yogis!

Thank you PYA for creating such a wonderful space! Not only is the studio beautiful and well-​kept, but the teachers are knowledgeable and attentive to their students. I have been practicing here since they opened and have felt my practice evolve thanks to the wonderful and diverse teachers. They are experienced and sensitive to student needs, constantly challenging and giving mindful adjustments to refine my practice.
The classes are accessible for all levels of experience!
I appreciate the flexibility of the donation model since I can make my own budget for yoga whilst still honoring the teachers with this system. The overall vibe at the studio is friendly, welcoming, and laid back while still promoting a sense of community and support among practitioners.
There is filtered water, clean towels, and yoga mats for rental for those who need them :) They also have blocks, blankets, straps and tennis balls in the space to complement your practice! Three changing rooms and a fridge make it convenient to fit your practice into your schedule. Parking is easy, there are spots all over the area (free during the mornings, Sundays and Mondays). Their website is constantly updated for workshops and substitute teachers.

Choosing where you begin your Teacher training is a very important step. For myself, I wanted to find an environment in line with values I wanted to embody as a Teacher. After searching through the many options in Austin, I came upon Practice Yoga Austin’s 200 HR TT program. I began reviewing the Teachers, the studio and the overall community there at PYA. It didn’t take me long to realize that Practice is a different kind of studio. Reynaldo and partners have managed to successfully unify the fundamental values of yoga with business, no easy feat! PYA is about sharing all 8 limbs of yoga (after all, Asana is merely one). The training I received at PracticeYA has completely changed my life. I am now happily teaching at an amazing studio in Austin, I am part of an incredible community that just keeps growing, I’ve reached levels of my own practice I never imagined possible, my knowledge has expanded beyond my expectations, and I have made lifelong friends. I have the greatest admiration and appreciation for Kiely, Rey, Shanti Kelly, G’Nell Price, Mandy Eubanks, Gioconda Parker, Abby Nagler (Little Yoga House), Mike Matsumura, Adam Meringolo and last but certainly not least Christina Sell. I adore this place. Everyone has such sweet souls, it’s donation based (though I use classpass), ‘check in’ on the Unilocal app for a free mat /​towel rental.
– My first class was a heated vinyasa with Tova. I love this chica’s energy, as hippy yogi as that makes me sound. The class was challenging and she wasn’t afraid to adjust you, sometimes I feel like instructors don’t do that enough. It was a medium sized class and she still made a point to give everyone individual attention.
– Second class was mindfulness with Shawn. This is a really, really meditative class. You do a few sequences, but it really is more about connecting your breath and your thoughts, etc. So calming.
Like everyone else is pointing out in their own reviews below, the vibes of this place are just off the chart and the classes are high quality.

Been taking the Saturday morning classes with Stacie. class is great and technically challenging. She is great at communicating in detail how to move your body to occomplish a pose.
Curious about the Align All Levels classes. let you know as soon as I try it.

I love PYA!!! The space is beautiful and the teachers are really welcoming, highly experienced and very kind (Laura is my fave!). The class quality is amazing and they offer a wide range of styles and class times to fit any schedule; it really is a gem of a studio and reminds you of why you started practicing in the first place. PYA is hands down my favorite yoga spot in Austin and I recommend it to everyone.

I love going to Practice Yoga Austin when I travel to Austin. It’s my studio-​away-​from-​home! The down to earth vibe is great, all the teachers I’ve taken with are very experienced and kind, and the yoga is super high quality. Also… the schedule is really extensive which is great for me. It’s clean and it smells good (not the case with all yoga studios, unfortunately).
Also, I’ve always been greeted warmly the second I walk in the door. so welcoming.
…basically PYA is the bomb.

This is my new favorite yoga studio. The teachers are spectacular and the space is beautiful. I love looking up at the wood ceilings and chandeliers during practice. Each class I feel pushed and challenged in a supportive way. I leave feeling reset and refreshed, and sometimes with trembling legs. I’ve practiced at home exclusively for a year or more, and I’m really enjoying re-​discovering the class setting. Practice Yoga does not feel elite (like you have to wear the right yoga clothes) nor is it uncomfortably crowded (like you have to show up at least 15 minutes before class to get a decent spot for your mat), like other places in town. I love the donation model, and I really hope this place sticks around!

This studio is welcoming and inclusive from the moment you walk through the door. I love everything about the space, and you can’t beat their class times and availability throughout the week. If you’re into unpretentious yoga, this place is for you.

One of the best places I have practiced yoga in Austin. The instructor I had, Laura, is very personable with a zen attitude and makes you feel right at home. (I was late and she was still super friendly– DONT be late. I felt horrible about this!!!)

This studio is the best place to practice in this City, period. This has been my Austin yoga home for over a year, and I have yet to meet a teacher or class that I didn’t like!

I can’t believe I haven’t written a review before. I absolutely LOVE this studio. Very warm, very inviting, very tranquil. It really is a community here and this studio boasts some of THE best yoga instructors. I have been going since they opened their doors and I will be going there as long as I’m practising yoga!

LOVE this space, so peaceful and inviting, and the instructors are fantastic. My last class was with Laura and it was superb. The perfect combination of challenging work with breathing, focus, and stretching/​relaxation. One of my BEST yoga experiences in Austin. Highly recommend!

Practice Yoga is by far one of the best, if not the best, places to do yoga in Austin. I’ve been to a few different studios in town and I absolutely love this studio. All of the instructors here are amazing. Practice has such a great community, great energy, and great location. I also love their hours of operation. If you’re more of a night owl then a early bird like I am then you too will appreciate how late they stay open. Get your namaste on all day everyday hope to see ya on the mat
