Has taken the time to listen to me and try to assist me with my issues. Most doctors I’ve been to say it’s all in my head even though my test results show otherwise.

Ragweed. Cedar Fever. Hay Fever. Just writing about the stuff makes my nose start to tingle. If you live in Central Texas, then you either suffer from one of our many regional allergens, or you know someone whose life is miserable for at least part of the year. For me, over the counter medications cut it only some of the time. The rest of the time, I have to be prescribed something fierce, or I can’t function properly as an employee, friend, wife, what have you. Enter: Dr. Harden. He’s a jolly, honest fellow who I felt comfortable with right away. My appointment with him was prompt, easy-going, and intelligent. He listened to my opinions and theories and them interjected his vast knowledge when needed. We even had an interesting conversation about general malaise diagnoses fads over the decades. Minus one star for his clumsy and basic medical assistant who asked me how many cigarettes I’ve had since the first time I smoked a cigarette. HUH? How the hell am I supposed to estimate a number like that? She wouldn’t let it go, and kind of left me feeling shameful about being upfront with my smoking history. I left with two prescriptions; one for a basic allergy medicine, and one for a regimen of steroids«in case the other isn’t doin’ it for you after a couple of days.» Well, perhaps Dr. Harden knew I was going to need the big guns, because the cedar count sky-rocketed yesterday, and my steroid prescription was there to save the day, er, week. One last note: I appreciate that his practice is self-contained, in that, he’s the only doctor in the practice. No giant waiting room with cable news blaring or multiple doctors calling their patients.
