Meat lovers, your heaven is here! Service: Our waitress was very friendly. She was well educated in the preparation and menu items for the evening. She was attentive through out the service too! Food: Menu items are made fresh and are sold out when they sell out for the day. So don’t be surprised if when you arrive something was available but by the time you ordered, it was sold out. We ordered the 16 oz ribeye w/seasonal veggies(shared between 2) and the butcher’s burger. Both dishes were just scrumptious! Everything was tasty, the meat was so tender and flavorful and the steak was perfectly well cooked to medium rare. The meal is fantastic, but it can be pricey, so just go in expecting that. I know some reviewers are upset by the prices, I know I won’t be dining here every night, but it’s still a wonderful restaurant! Atmosphere: Space can maybe hold 30 or less customers. There is a bar area too. The entry way is mostly the market area. Sizable parking lot. Décor is very nice and simple, very east side. Casual feel.

We literally had everything on the brunch menu and it was all phenomenal. Favorites include Biscuits and Gravy(with chicken fried steak), Migas, and the Empanada. Definitely start with the Michelada Verde and finish with the Bread Pudding. Stellar.

Hate to give this place a mediocre review, but it just didn’t wow me until the bill came. That WOW! was going the wrong direction. The place is way overpriced. Four entrées, three lackluster performances. Lamb chops nearly raw. Chicken dish with undercooked gloppy breading. Another dish that was so bland I cannot now remember what it was. The lone steak was perfect – so, 1-for-4, which is a bad night in baseball and a disaster in a restaurant. Every dish carried a menu promise of vegetables, backed up by our server, which were fantastic. And maybe three spoons full. Not the place to skimp. Ambiance is loud hipster, which I don’t mind. Bench seats without chair backs, however, leave one feeling rushed as in picnic table fast food, let’s hurry up and eat so we can go play. Salt and Time is trying to out do Dai Due. Ain’t happening yet, sadly.

Stopped in for drinks and app. The décor and atmosphere is great and so was the staff! Our selections of board are amazing as we were blown away by their mustard(hello horseradish buzz!). Only complaint it cheese should be offered with the board choice. Would love to go back and have dinner.

Hey, it’s a place that actually picked their name using the Hipster Business name generator! I bought 5 links of Lamb merguez sausage here and have browsed the store a couple of times. They don’t have Turkey breasts for smoking purposes because they couldn’t source them, I was told. They didn’t have any pork bellies for smoking purposes either when I first went looking for them(Costco has you covered). They do however, have $ 3 a link frozen sausages and extremely overpriced odds and ends. I like the idea of going to a butcher to get quality meat, but I also want that place to have what I want and not to decide to buy what they have. MURICA? yes.

Not a shabby place. The Salumi Board was really good. The burger was 8. oz of deliciousness of beef topped with an egg and bacon. Even the ketchup was good!

This spot is in a strip mall but don’t be fooled… it’s bomb. You walk in and it’s a modern contemporary spot with lots of local craft beers and cuts of meat right in front of you. We were in the mood for a burger. Their burger is AMAZING. We also got the cheese and Salumi board which was amazing. All cured and prepared in house! I got the bacon on my burger which they prepare in house as well! Great date spot, or just a place to hang out. Next time would like to try their steaks… they have Wagyu beef and looks amazing. Highly recommended!

What a fantastic place. They have done a lot to keep the atmosphere cozy and fun — and I really appreciate that in a high end restaurant like Salt and Time. Everything I have had on my numerous trips here is good, they just don’t miss. I have to say, I love meat while respecting others choice to live a vegetarian lifestyle, but I do fantasize about«breaking» a herbivore here. Just casually enjoying this amazing burger in front of them while watching their eyes gaze hungrily. Thinking, trying to resist, but unable to control themselves any longer. They lunge across the table and snatch the juicy burger from my hands. They are broken, this burger is AMAZING, you can’t come back from this. They can’t even hear me order a choice steak for us over their own euphoria. The burger has brought them back into the fold and all is well.

Clean simple space and a truly ethical attitude to food sourcing — this place is right up my alley. My annoyance about a long wait time when we arrived(we weren’t seated until 8:40 for an 8 o’clock booking) was swiftly put to bed by the glorious cheese, charcuterie and pickle boards they comped us as we sat down. The smoked Pepperone with whole grain beer mustard, the hill country pâté(more of a terrine) and the blue sheeps cheese were all utterly utterly glorious. The cheese particularly was absolutely one of the best I’ve eaten in the states. Outstanding! All served with generous piles of bread and pickles(I hate it when cheese and charcuterie are served with silly decorative tiny, useless amounts of bread) We followed with a couple of 16oz NY strips from the Market Cut menu(between four of us, we’re not total animals!) all served with kale, butternut squash, onions and beef fat thick cut chips. The stakes were beautifully smooth and seared to just beyond rare. It has a beer and wine only licence — and it’s not somewhere that claims to offers fine dining or five star silver service — but a super friendly vibe, an amazingly likeable team and truly good for you, good for the planet, delicious local food — all, I think, pretty reasonably priced. Definitely a place to book mark next time you’ve got meat-loving friends in town!

Wanted to love this place. The butcher shop has a great selection of meats. The menu is interesting and the food has been good the 2x we’ve been here. The service though is lacking. The woman who waited on us was not friendly at all. We chalked it up to East Austin but it was amazing how cold she was to other customers. Generally, they were aloof. I’m an old school butcher fan. Hope management takes care of customer service issues.

The burger and fries($ 14 plus $ 1 for cheese) was a huge disappointment. The beef tasted very plain — like it came from HEB or something. Clearly this is not the case(S&T is a butcher shop), but it was so underwhelming for a burger that gets such rave reviews. Also, the bun was dry and the Swiss cheese was not fully melted. The fries are essentially fat planks of potato, which I typically enjoy, but my batch was underdone and undersalted. Salt & Time’s burger doesn’t even compare to similarly priced burgers in Austin, like Parkside and Jacoby’s. The rest of the menu may be fantastic, but I do not recommend spending $ 14+ on a burger here.

The best thing about this place was the convenient parking. We came in for dinner around 8 on a Saturday, and unfortunately they were already out of approximately half of their menu. Excellent start, that’s alright though, there were still a few of what I thought would be great steaks left to choose, so no need to worry yet, right? Our waitress filled our water then took the empty carafe and our appetizer order, but never brought any water back. We had to remind her multiple times, at which point everyone at my table had been out of water for quite some time. Luckily we had our appetizer to distract us… or so I thought. The cheese plate we ordered was good, but they only brought 5 crostinis to eat it with for a table of 6. We asked for some more, which was also promptly forgotten about, so we just ate the majority of the cheese by itself. Time for the main course, I’ve got my hopes high for this. Our steaks come out and I’m thinking his how they’ll redeem themselves from an otherwise poor dining experience. The steak I ordered looked great and was cooked to a good medium rare. I take my first bite and, what? It’s cold. I get letting a steak rest after cooking, but they waited way too long. I like my steak to taste like it came off the grill, not the refrigerator. Needless to say, I won’t be coming back. Ever.

Congratulations Salt & Time for the WORST dining experience of 2015! After hearing great things, we decided to make reservations here for NYE. However, service was a complete shit show for mediocre food. Small plate appetizers and entrees came out at the same time — well to be completely fair one entrée didn’t come out until later… like after everyone else was finished eating! Burger was ok but wasn’t prepared as ordered, even after sending it back. Then we asked to have the bill paid on two different cards and they charged the wrong amounts on the cards… TWICE!!! Are you kidding me?! When they screwed up the second transaction, we were rudely told that we could’ve paid with one card. WOW! Really?! Guess what folks, if we’d known we were dealing with incompetent, rude assholes, we would have! I get that’s it’s NYE but they weren’t really that busy and it certainly was not an excuse for horrible service and attitude. We will not be going back. In fact, if you want the butcher/restaurant experience, stick with Dai Due! They know how to do it right and treat their guest like they appreciate their business.

Omg for staters everything in amazing, the burger is what a burger should taste like. Specialty meats and cuts, great wine and beer selections too! Thanks to all the staff for a great dining experience. This is an Austin gem!

Ever heard the one where the vegetarian walks into a butcher shop? According to a staff member at Salt and Time, it happens more than one might think. When we went, the vegetarian ate a pasta dish of gnocchi that was delicious but left her hungry. The meat eaters in the group left entirely satisfied. One consumed a Salumi board with cheese and the other enjoyed the burger with fries. The medium rare burger was super juicy and messy to eat but enjoyable. There are a good selection of alcoholic drinks, but non-drinkers are limited to sugar-based bottled sodas. One of the employees invited us to sample the Bologna she was cutting. Staff is also helpful about where in town they like to shop for the cheeses they serve. We left eyeing the butcher shop display cases and coolers with anticipation of returning for meats for our own at home dinners. Overall, an easy place to dine(they take OpenTable reservations) and meat that is far more appealing to shop for than the shrink wrapped stuff at HEB. But you may want to leave your vegetarian friends at home. There is also no children’s menu, so it’s more of a grown up place.

I was impressed with the design! The space is divided between white florescent lighting for the clean and elegant butchers shop and then off to the right there is the warmer toned– Edison light bulb lit sleek modern lax dining. The mission here was the burger and it was pretty damn good! The burger is very tall so i ate it with a knife and fork. breaking down a burger into bits gave me a better appreciation of what all exactly makes this a great burger. Also i will admit– i put ketchup on my burger, no need for that at all here. Great Burger! Side notes: those are some fat fries! I love a nice fat fry instead of a rinky dink skinny fry.

How do you cure meats the old fashioned way? With salt and time. S&T takes that concept to heart and has created a wonderful butcher and sandwich shop. Everything they sell is from Texas grown and anti-biotic and hormone free animals. I sat at the bar and ordered the salumi board. It was 4 types of charcuterie(you can add $ 5 for cheese). It’s butcher’s choice, and what I received was coppa, lamb salami, pecan sausage, and Spanish chorizo. My favorites were the pecan sausage and the chorizo, though they were all great. Great way to nurse a hangover. They also had a pretty damn extensive beer list. I went with a Chimay Doree, which recently came to the US for the first time. Yum. I wish I had more appetite to try one of their sandwiches, because they looked awesome. But I had a great time nonetheless with the salumi board. Service was a bit slow due to how busy it was during lunch, but I had… time.

This update is long overdue as I have now tried their catering at a Christmas party and dinner dining in the restaurant. Catering wise their sausages are amazing on the grill and the fixings that come with it are unbelievable. I would definitely recommend them to cater events. Pickled Vegetable Board: It comes with Brie, pickled jalapenos, pickled peaches, pickled radish salad and pickled okra. I was a little scared of the pickled peaches but, when I finally tried one I was pleasantly surprised. The veggies were crisp and pickled to perfection. I really enjoyed the pickled radish salad the most. Burger with fries and spreadable sausage: The bun was a treat all on its own and I am always pleased when they put it on the grill or flattop for a minute. Of course the burger was hands down in one word amazing. It was cooked to the temperature that I ordered and the addition of the spreadable sausage was the right choice. Putting meat on top of meat isn’t normally what I would opt for and it sounded a little gross but, wow I was impressed. This may be my favorite burger in Austin. I ate so much burger that I didn’t even get to touch my fries but, they looked delicious. Digestive Aid Shot: I didn’t realize this has alcohol in it but, it does. I’ve never seen this before but, it really did aid in digestion and I enjoyed the flavor. It was similar to the flavor of bitters so, if you don’t like that you may not like it. The next morning I realize that I had a credit card issue because I was accidentally double charged and the manager was really nice about it. He explained to me that the transaction was canceled but, if the money for some reason did come out to give him a call back. It ended up working out but, I really appreciated how attentive and polite he was to the situation on the phone.

Had the charcuterie board today and it was excellent! If you know what quality cured meats are then this place is a must! That being said, I’ve read some negative reviews about Salt & Time stating that the food can be «bland». Well what do you expect from people who have been raised on Oscar Meyer bologna all of their lives? Maybe I’m being a bit too sarcastic, but what the artisans do here is produce quality crafted cold cuts, which are NOT overly salted. The flavors are supposed to be subtle, sublime even. The natural fats are as much of the essential flavor & textural component in the finished product as is the meat itself. But if it’s overly salty then there’s no difference with mass produced commercial super market products. All I can say that they’re doing it old school here and hat’s off to them, well done lads! 5 stars for the cured meats and house pickled veggies & peppers as well as the lovely onion/pear chutney, not too sweet and went perfectly with everything. Highly recomended!

This E. Austin butcher shop is hip, fresh, and very cool. You can buy anything from steaks to burger patties to dog treats(smoked pig ears & ham bones) at the counter. However, if you have some time, I recommend you sit down and eat. The shop is connected to a Dallas favorite — Dude, Sweet — which is a popular chocolate shop located in Oak Cliff and off lower Greenville. The food: 1. Heart Salad du Jour(heart of the day was lamb heart) 2. Lavender Pancakes with goat cheese and meyer lemon butter 3. Chilaquiles 4. Side of sausage 5. Side of bacon I got to taste a little bit of everything, and thought it was all excellently-prepared. The heart salad was very unique. It came out with leafy greens and a poached egg on top. I’m not a huge fan of heart meat in general, which is reminiscent of liver with the same smooth texture and flavor profile. I enjoyed my bite, but out of personal preference would probably not order it for myself. However, the person who did order it thought it was great! I really enjoyed the lavender pancakes, which did not have an overpowering taste of lavender, just a hint. The goat cheese meyer lemon butter was delicious, though and it made it just the right savory/sweet combo. The chilaquiles came out with a fried egg on top and was spicier than I expected. The salsa was red and I would characterize it as medium heat. Good dish overall. My only(minor) complaint is that our wait after ordering was approx. 35 minutes long — just enough for my table to start commenting on the wait and looking around for the waitress to ask for an ETA. Pro tips: 1. They only serve brunch on Sundays 2. Eat your pancakes as a stack, otherwise your bottom pancake will have to be eaten sans syrup
