Sears Optical

Website says they are open until 7 on Friday, so I fought rush hour traffic in the rain to go get some glasses. Got there at 6:05 and the salesperson said they closed at 6 :(I told her the website says 7 and she says «Don’t know, I guess come back before 6 tomorrow?» Ummm, no, I’ll try somewhere else…

Fantastic! I was just browsing-​not ready to buy because I didn’t have my RX. I chose the frames I wanted for glasses and RX sunglasses which I LOVE! The staff was super helpful, even though I was not buying at the time. They even called me when the doctor faxed in my RX and had my insurance eligibility ready to go! Thanks to their 2 for 1 deal, now I can see! I didn’t even know Sears had an optical but I’m glad I went :-)

I went there with a previous prescription from somewhere else so I am NOT reviewing the optometrist.
The guy there was initially helpful while picking out my frames. However, when the filled the prescription and I came back, things changed. The guy was still nice… but not very observant. My glasses were bent out of shape (think Far Side glasses), and he didn’t notice.
I came back to take advantage of the return policy (if you don’t like ‘em, bring ‘em back). Only then did he notice.
All that is cosmetic… not a big deal since it did get fixed. I have worn glasses since I was 4 (I am now 23) therefore taking care of my glasses comes naturally to me. The coating on these lenses wore off in less than two years. (By the way, the coating doesn’t simply disappear, it degrades and blurs the lenses.) Glasses usually last me more than 4 years until the frames fatigue.
This is shoddy work with something medically important. Don’t go here.

Yes, I bought my glasses at Sears, Dork City.
BUT I scored a RAD pair of frames. On sale! And the exceptionally nice opticians were very helpful and patient with me. Oh, and I have to mention my eye exam was a mere $ 40 at the optometrist next door. (Who offers online appointment scheduling… nice!)
