I hired Self Reliant Solar to do my solar installation back in November of 2014. I had been thinking about installing solar for a while, knowing that Austin Energy had a rebate, and that there was a tax credit associated with the install. I called around and looked at about 5 different installers here in Austin, and chose Self Reliant Solar. These guys were really easy to work with, and more than happy to help. After a 15 minute phone conversation, where some general information about my house, what I was looking to get out of solar, and what the solar install process would involve, I was asked for a copy of my Austin Energy bill, so that they could use real data to provide me with a design that I would need, not just taking a shot in the dark. I was also informed that my house would require an ECAD to qualify for the rebate, because my house is over 10 years old. Self Reliant Solar recommended two companies to come out to my house to perform the inspection, and I was able to do the energy improvement work myself(saved about $ 500). Once the work was done and my house qualified for the rebate, Self Reliant Solar took over from there, it was a few signatures on my end, and a few weeks later, I had a nice clean array on my roof. The inspection process took a little longer than usual, but with friends in the construction industry have been complaining about the delays due to the unprecedented amount of construction going on in Austin, so I was aware of potential delays. Since its install, I have been given a flash drive with all the information that I needed to file for my tax credit, as well as all of the warranty information for my records. The best part however is that I have not had to pay a single dollar to Austin Energy since the solar meter was installed, and have let the sun take care of that bill for me.

I would have given a better review a few weeks ago. This company stepped up and installed one phase of my solar when another company I was dealing with went belly up when they were almost done. At the time, Kenny, had to re-do most of the work of the previous contractor to get it done right. No complaints — just explained how the belly up company screwed up their work then he made it right. Now, a few years later I did a remodel that required I temporarily remove panels. Called up Self reliant. Answer — Kenny is gone and there’s no way they can fit in a one day job in over two months. Can’t give me a date when they would be able to do the job. Good luck. What can I say. They’re either wildly successful or just don’t want to take the time to do a rinky small piece of work. Since the person that actually did the good work is gone and they don’t feel the need to work with previous customers I can’t say I would use them again or recommend them to others.
