Springdale Farm

This review is regarding the new dining experience, which seems to be separate from most of the other reviews here (most of them seem to be about the CSA).
At $ 70 per person, I expected much better — on par with Wink, Launderette, or Uchi. Unfortunately the food was completely forgettable, and everyone was expected to sit at these large picnic tables. I took my fiancé here to have a romantic night under the stars, but nothing kills the intimacy like a strange woman sharing your table as she emits unreasonably-​loud groans with every bite of food.
I’m not sure why they call it «farm-​to-​table», when all that’s really from the farm are the garnishes. I was really hoping to get some dishes with the vegetables being the stars. The best parts of the meal were the amuse-​bouche and the dessert, although all I remember tasting on the amuse-​bouche was bacon, and the dessert was a sorbet. The appetizer was sausage, and the main courses were seafood (gumbo and a fish dish). I didn’t see any pigs nor bodies of water around… What gives?
The only reason they get two stars is because of their quality of service. They refilled our waters regularly and were accommodating to my fiancé’s dietary restrictions. But if I’m being honest, I’ve had better meals from my parents’ backyard garden. Maybe if Springdale didn’t charge so much money, and made their own vegetables /​livestock the stars of the dishes, I would have been more generous with my review.

The Foore’s did an excellent job of organizing this happy event. It came off without a hitch.

We recently moved within a stone’s throw of Springdale Farm and were really excited to stop by for some yummy local produce.
Went by around noon on the weekend and were immediately shocked by how little stock they had available. Maybe we missed the rush or something but there was a table with cayenne peppers, 3 bunches of okra, some green onions and very little else. Prices were written on the chalkboard for tons of other items so I’m just assuming they sold out very quickly.
They tried to sell us 5 duck eggs for $ 6 when we asked for chicken eggs. I know urban farms have to be a bit more expensive but that seemed in excess to me.
Overall left empty-​handed and not inclined to return. Everyone was very sweet, including the gorgeous dog they had lazing under the table, but those prices are just way out of hand for me.

We arrived just after noon and it was slim pickings by then but I figured I could get some photos of Kiddo with the chickens and ducks. It was a beautiful day. By the time we finished our shoot and returned to the house, there was only a scant selection remaining.
I spoke with the owner about the green onions and beets. It was obvious that he has a real passion about vegetables. I also had the chance to chat with the other owner, not about veggies, but about archaic landlines, pagers and just how amazing technology is. They were both welcoming and friendly.
I ended up bringing home the ginormous green onions. They went wonderfully in the cauli-​tots we had for dinner. Next time we go, I’ll get the fresh eggs for $ 7. Although that seems super expensive, there’s nothing like fresh farm eggs. You can really taste a huge difference.
Note: Not to be confused with the likes of Sweet Berry or Barton Hill, if you are wanting to bring your little ones with. This is an urban garden-​farm. There’s pretty stuff to look at, chickens and ducks to look at but that’s about it for the kids.

Locally grown vegetables, a farm full of chicken, ducks, and goats, and frequent live music events, what’s not to like about Springdale Farm? The owners Glenn and Paula Foore are very knowledgeable and willing to educate us on sustainable garden farming. Springdale Farm encourages you to learn about food farming and they even have an indoor farm stand with seasonal foods. They sell their produce every Wednesday and Saturday from 9am — 1pm.

The new dining experience at Eden East on Springdale Farms is an unbeatable experience. From the food, to the service to the amazing atmosphere, everything was just perfect. We will be back several times!

Hard to believe a place like this even exists — urban vegetable + chicken farm right near a major city. Reminds me of the P-​Patch gardens in Seattle but combined with a commercial grocery.
We only grabbed a few vegetables to take home for a salad but if I lived in Austin I could see coming here weekly to stock up on whatever they have in season/​just picked.

Springdale Farm is a georgeous East Austin Urban Farm, providing organic produce to many restaurants in town. Paula and Glenn Foore, also operate a farmstand, open to the public on Wednesday and Saturday from 9:00 to 1:00 every week. The farm is also one of the most beautiful wedding and event venues in Central Texas, and the Foores take great pride in keeping the space as pristine as an outdoor venue can be. I’ve attended several weddings there, all glorious, as well the best birthday celebration I’ve ever had. There are chickens, ducks, and a charming farm dog to add to the farm experience, only a couple miles east of downtown. The produce and eggs available at the weekly farmstand are incredible.

Springdale Farms is a great place to get local produce. The owners Glenn and Paula are always inviting and offer great produce at a great price. The property the farm is on is also a great spread. It’s fun strolling through the grounds checking out the crops and seeing the chickens and ducks. I particularly enjoy the okra and duck eggs. Plus, it feels good supporting local. Make it a Wednesday or Saturday morning and go check it out. My trips have often ended up turning into a wonderful home cooked dinner.

Great farm, great farmers, great produce, great service!

Right around the corner from Boggy Creek Farm. Wonderful produce, friendly people. They’ve also started taking credit cards!
And try the smoked pepper… mmmmm.

I have been going to the farm stand every Saturday off and on for the last year and I can’t say enough fabulous things about Springdale Farm or Paula and Glenn.
Their vegetables are always beautiful and fresh and grown with the utmost care and love. They are also affordable. They’re constantly trying new varieties and are eager to share their knowledge or swap recipes. Glenn’s parents are often there collecting money. They are committed to the neighborhood and sharing the fruits of their labor.
I love the fact that I live less than a mile down the street and every week I am surprised and delighted to find what they’ve picked that morning. I am never disappointed (only if I show up late and its slim pickings).
Don’t get me wrong, I love Boggy Creek too, but I can’t afford to pay $ 5 for a tomato and I am always disappointed by the selection because all the restaurateurs show up early and clean them out.

Springdale Farm is amazing. The owners, Paula and Glenn Foore, are eager to provide Austin with the freshest produce and eggs. We participated in the CSA and looked forward to our weekly delivery of hand-​picked cabbage, carrots, roots of all kinds, tomatoes, lettuce, etc.
I just check their website just now and this is what is currently growing: chives, marjoram, thyme, sage, fennel, lavendar, oregano, collard greens, mustard greens, asian greens, broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, carrots, beets, sugar snap peas, onions, swiss chard, kale, lettuce, arugula, rutabaga, turnips, brussels sprouts, fava beans, endive, lemongrass, snow peas, shallots
Along with the weekly goods, Paula includes a letter that tells you what is going on at the farm. It really lets you feel a sense of pride in being a part of something this good.
The ‘farmers market’ is open on Saturdays if you choose not to participate in the CSA program.
