Star Center Gymnastics & Dance

We are very fortunate to live so close to Star Center, I am sure parents must drive from all over to have their children train there. Even though we are probably never going to the Olympics it is great to have our daughter trained by excellent instructors. We have always felt very welcomed at the Star Center and she loves to go! There is a lot going on in the gym, but is is a very well-​oiled machine.

I’m having a really hard time liking my investment here. But I think that it’s due to my child’s age range and therefore her group. Because she’s in the younger, beginner class, they do not meet in the large gym with full scale equipment, but rather in a small separate building which seems thrown together as an afterthought.
I like my daughter’s teacher — she seems knowledgeable. What I do not like is that half the class is spent stretching (I understand that stretching is important, but you don’t need to have 3 and 4 year olds stretch for a full 20 minutes in a 45 minute class… you’re biding your time… which I’m paying for) and the clock watching is too obvious.
I can see the basics that are being taught, but my daughter is bored. The class is extremely small and the teacher is able to maintain general control and keep their attention, but there isn’t a lot of excitement or encouragement to keep the kids’ interest into WHY they’re doing what they’re doing. I just would be doing it a different way based on sitting through and observing each class.
Leaving every day feeling like I’ve wasted over $ 100 bucks on a kid’s activity isn’t my favorite feeling. I’m looking for up beat, structured, encouraging and exciting.
Again, I think that the age group is difficult — you can’t be too technical with them yet, but you can’t turn ‘em loose — it’s not play time.
Since I’m on a musical chairs schedule with extracurricular activities for my daughter, we will see this through and reap what benefit from it we can — but I think we’ll probably give another center a try next time and opt for dance or soccer as our next endeavor.

Our older kids went here when they were younger. Now our 3 yr old is starting here. They are great. We love this place. Clean facility, friendly staff.

My daughter has been on the team as well as in classes at Star. She just loves the coaches, Dar & Justin and we wouldn’t dream of going anywhere else.

Having our son attend Star Center Gymnastics has been such a positive experience for our son and our family. Our son is currently a part of their competitive Boy’s Team and I couldn’t be happier with the training he has received. The coaching staff here is outstanding! In fact one of our coaches received «Coach of the Year» for the whole state of Texas! This is a tough program but if you really want to take gymnastics seriously and want your son to excel in this sport, then this is the only gym for you. No other gyms in the area compare…

Our son has been training at Star Center Gymnastics for approx 3 years now and I have nothing but good things to say about it. Our family is extremely health conscious and this gym has helped to solidify that foundation for our son.
Strength, flexibility, power, endurance, discipline, respect and an understanding of the importance of mastering fundamentals is what this gym has helped our son to understand.
The staff is friendly. The instructor’s tough but encouraging. This Gym has done a great job in creating a friendly environment and a culture amongst its participants.
As long as we live in Austin, our children will attend this gym!

My daughter started out at Star Center last summer for camp. We then enrolled her in classes for the fall. I am really impressed with the quality of the instructors at Star Center. Yes, they were a bit standoffish at first, and it took a little while to get the system down. But my daughter loved it from the minute she started there, and that’s what it’s really about! The instructors and staff are not there to take care of me – they’re there for my kid. And SHE has learned more in a few months at Star Center than she did it two years at Dance Unlimited. We are looking forward to another summer of camp at Star Center and to see how far she can go!

The owner from Star Center, Mike Trevino, is extremely passive-​aggressive. There’s nothing that pisses me off more than people who say «I’m not calling you _​_​_​_​but» and then proceed to basically do just that. What pisses me off more is he sought me out to do this over what was obviously an accident the day after I had given his business money. I was shocked. So, to imitate him, I’m not calling him rude but his attitude toward me was very disparaging. It’s a shame that this is the only gym with adult classes. The instructors are very nice, super attentive, helpful and knowledgeable. I had a great time here and asked for my money back anyway just because I was so angry. The owner sure doesn’t care about your business and let’s you know it. If you have a choice go somewhere else.
