We went to Sullivan’s for dinner during a week in Austin for a conference. We stumbled upon it and decided to go with it as we knew we had to have a steak while in Texas. We were quickly greeted and led to a table, where our server took a little bit of time to get to us. But, once he did, he was very friendly and accommodating and made wonderful drink recommendations. I ended up going with a Cabernet wine and to be honest I don’t really remember where he said it was from or what made it special but I was just happy to have a glass of red wine. We started with a bread and butter dish, the bread was a little too hard for my taste and it was a little chewier than most would have liked. The mixed greens came next and this was better than expected. Most times it’s a sad plate of random lettuce, a cucumber, and a tomato but not this one. It was a large plate of mixed greens with sliced veggies and a reallllly yummy vinaigrette sauce dancing throughout it. Next came the main event, the steak. The delicious, perfectly medium rare cooked steak. It cut like a hot knife through butter and melted as equally in my mouth. SO amazing. We also had a side of scalloped potatoes and creamed spinach which was a perfect compliment but no competition for the main event. Did I mention we ended the night with warm chocolate cake? Or that it was actually WARM and topped with cool, velvetty vanilla ice cream? And all of the above paired perfectly with my wine. Awesome dinner from start to finish… bravo!

Went to Sullivan’s on a spur-of-the-moment Sunday night. The restaurant is really nice, very elegant. There was a live cellist playing. Our waiter was friendly and very knowledgeable. We both ordered steaks, and they were very delicious! Tender, juicy, spiced just right and cooked just right. The reason for the low grade is the sides. We had the mac n cheese and scalloped potatoes. They are served«family style» and can feed about 3 people. But they were just not good at all. I expected way more from a place that charged 80 bucks for a steak. I don’t think we will go back, but it was a decent meal and nice time overall.

We went to Sullivan’s last night to have dinner and celebrate our birthdays. To say we enjoyed our experience there is an understatement! Not only was the food amazing enough to prompt a five-star review, the service is what set it over the edge! Our server, Brent, was nothing short of spectacular! He made our visit unmatched to anything we’ve ever experienced in fine dining. His personality was bubbly and inviting. For goodness sake, he performed a magic trick for us and even serenaded us with some Disney music! He went above and beyond for us! Thank you, Brent, for being awesome! As for the food, my husband and I both left the restaurant feeling like we had just eaten the best meal of our lives. The appetizers were on point, the lobster bisque was the best I’ve ever had, and the steaks were cooked to perfection! Truly a fantastic place to go. While it may be pricey, you get more than your money’s worth in the quality of food and service provided to you! We will most definitely be coming back!

Sullivan’s is an Austin institution. A steakhouse that honors the tradition of old school steakhouses. No fads, no gimmicks, no trendy tricks. Just quality steaks, excellent service and a pleasant environment for conversation.

Nice location and a great looking restaurant. The food is okay and not too expensive for a steakhouse. My meal wasn’t that memorable so I’ll be honest I have no idea what I ordered. I got shrimp cocktail and I only got 3 pieces but they were big so that was nice. The steak was a tad overcooked, ordered rare and got medium rare center with medium well on the ends, meh. The steak somehow ended up being dry though? I know that really doesn’t make sense for medium rare but chef somehow pulled it off. I didn’t enjoy my steak but I didn’t hate it either. I did eat the pre sliced steak with mashed potatoes in one bite which made it taste better lol. The desert was an apple pie I think, and it was good, probably my favorite dish from my visit.

Full disclosure: I worked here for about 2 years back in 2008 but there are some things I’ve never found better anywhere else. The broilers put a crust on those steaks that has to be tried to be believed. Their delicately-prepared salmon allowed my salmon crush to fully blossom into salmon infatuation. OMG creamed spinach, signature«Knockout» pineapple & vodka cocktail, deserts for days. Yes. So yes.

Steak, baby. Tender, well seasoned, medium rare, juicy, succulent, flavorful, rich, cooked to perfection. The salad, veggies, wine, service, valet parking, and whatever else I popped into my mouth or enjoyed, came in second. It’s all about the steak here and it’s always done right. However, choosing between the steak and a server other than Zane would be difficult as he was personable, attentive and extremely accommodating.

THEPINEAPPLEMARTINICONCOCTION is amazing. Dad and I came in for drinks and had waaaay to many of those tasty little things. They taste like heaven but were dangerously easy to put down. My dad asked the bartender to tell us how to make it and the man hasn’t stopped asking me to find jars so we can try it. Didn’t have the food here, but the bartender was incredibly friendly and we had a great time here!

We ate dinner there last nigh 12÷5÷15. Service was horribly slow. Ordered the multi-course meal as it seemed like the best value(the menu was set-up as ala-carte). The crab and lobster bisque had one small chunk of crab. My filet mignon was charred on the outside. I would recommend the horseradish mashed potatoes. My niece ordered a side of asparagus that did not come until after she had eaten most of her food(despite reminding the waitress three times)’. My other niece ordered a hamburger medium well and it came out medium rare. When asked to cook it a little more, it came back out burnt to a crisp. Did not expect these issues for such a pricey restaurant. Disappointed!

Oh, how far Sullivan’s has fallen. I used to love this place, but I can’t say if be willing to go back again. As is our weekly tradition, my daughter and I went downtown for dinner. We were on our way to another restaurant, but decided we wanted steak instead and Sullivan’s was right there, so we headed in. The hostess greeted us and sat us at the first table inside the restaurant. Our server was friendly and polite and took our order. We started with the French onion soup, which was, although a little salty, the best part of the meal. We decided on the three course dinner. I chose the calamari, Wedge salad and a New York strip for $ 42. My daughter chose the shrimp cocktail, shrimp and lobster bisque and filet mignon. The steaks came with horseradish mashed potatoes and my steak, with a Gorgonzola sauce. Both were overpowering. The steak was completely over-salted and inedible. The server noticed that I wasn’t enjoying my potatoes and quickly brought over a baked potato to replace them, even though I told her she didn’t need to do that. After a couple of bites of the steak, I could not do it anymore. The server noticed that I wasn’t eating and offered to have the kitchen remake it. I declined. The manager came over and apologized and comped my meal and offered dessert, but at that point, I was just not hungry anymore. My daughter enjoyed her shrimp cocktail, but considered her steak, merely okay. This is a kid who can easily polish off a 16 ounce steak, sides and dessert and she wouldn’t finish a six ounce filet here. The sauce on her steak tasted like brown gravy. Although the service was good and they did try to make it right, I don’t think I’ll be back. There are so many wonderful restaurants in this city, there is no room on my plate for mediocre steaks. Especially when the bill, even after the comps, came out to $ 75.00.

I absolutely love Sullivans and would highly recommend that place as an anniversary spot or even a friday night get-together with friends. I’ve frequented this place often enough to know that their steaks are one of my favorite(especially the porterhouse!). Great location aside from the fact that it’s downtown so prepare to pay for parking unless you get really lucky, lol. I’ve been here for several occasions including my birthday and have enjoyed the experience every time.

When you go to a steak house and end up enjoying the salad more than the steak, something is wrong. This was my experience with Sullivan’s. I ordered the wedge salad which was awesome: one of the best salads I’ve ever had. My entrée was the fillet mignon and half lobster. The fillet tasted like old meat, was over-cooked, and lacked any desirable flavor. The lobster didn’t taste fresh either. I had a steak at Texas Roadhouse the night before going to Sullivan’s, and I much preferred the Texas Roadhouse steak. Just wow, Sullivan’s.

yeah. I’ve done the $ 423-course menu twice now, both times thoroughly enjoying it. The first time I went with the filet, second time the NY strip, and I’d recommend the strip, mostly due to the amazing peppercorn sauce on top. The shrimp cocktail for the first course was a little lacking in portion — the cheesesteak eggrolls would be a tastier but greasier option. The lobster bisque was decent but also lacking in the expected seafood portion. The wedge is a nice second course option with generous dressing and bleu cheese. Even if you’re not impressed with the first or second courses I’d still recommend it, the price is fantastic(especially for the area) and the steak is good(isn’t that what’s most important?).

Solid 3 stars tonight. Pretty ambience and great service. Steak was VERY salty but tender and good quality. Lobster was undercooked(clear looking and weird texture). Drinks were delicious but a bit on the high side($ 13 each). For the price I expected more. I’ll consider giving them another try.

Took my wife here for her birthday. Had reservations for 8 and arrived on time and promptly seated. The atmosphere is relaxed and comfortable. They do a great job of not cramming more tables in just to seat more. Only odd thing was most of the tables where set up to seat four or more, which does feel a bit odd when there is only two. But maybe I’m just the odd one The waitress brought out some warm bread and SOFT butter!!(can’t stand when they bring you rock hard butter). We opted for two sides creamed spinach and grilled asparagus. I thought both were very good but my wife thought the spinach had too heavy a flavor from the cheese, which I agree if you are a fan or Parmesan might wanna skip it. The steaks, I had the NY the wife had the ribeye(total flip, normally I get the ribeye she gets the NY). Her steak was a solid B but a bit over salted, and my wife LOVES salt. Mine was WAY over salty and peppered, I ended up scraping off the seasoning and then the steak was right. I did mention it to the waitress who then sent over the manager who offered to send a whole new steak over, I declined since I had almost finished my steak but was very happy to see that they wanted to make it right. So my steak was a B– maybe a C+. For her birthday they offer a free dessert so my wife got the s’more dish and let me tell you WOW really rich and delicious. I had a bite or two but my wife powered through and ate the whole thing. Still amazed she ate the whole thing Finally the staff, they were perfect! On point with drinks and keeping us happy kudos to them. Over all it’s a very good dinning experience, they just need to work on the steaks just a touch to get to the next level in my humble Unilocalers opinion.

Everything you expect, and a little more, from a nice steakhouse. Service is beyond impressive; bordering on excessive. Attentive, knowledgeable staff ready to make things right. Their menu is simple and appropriate. Steaks, seafood, appetizers, accouterments. Just right. The seafood sampler is outstanding. Impressive shrimp and a killer seasoning on the calamari. Beef egg rolls were a special favorite of our group. Our entrees were all excellent. I had the 8oz. filet with garlic butter and could not have been more pleased. Cooked evenly and perfectly through. Seared nicely. Juices contained. And seasoned just the right amount. All in all: an excellent meal. Our party of right was well-attended and completely satisfied. Will definitely return.

Just another steak house. My dad came into town for the weekend and we I wanted to take him to a good steak house. Sadly, I forgot to make reservations and we were unable to get into my top two places. We started walking down the street and Sullivan was able to seat us right away. For a Friday night around 7, it was pretty empty but still not always in tell tale sign. I ordered my steak cut medium and my father ordered the fish special. My steak really lacked any type of specific flavor and was also cook pretty well through(no red meat). It wasn’t bad in any sense, but with all of the great restaurants, this did not stand out at all.
