Where did you go Sushi Box?! I miss you! This place was the quality of a restaurant with way cheaper prices. Super fresh! If I remember correctly the chef brews his own soy sauce. BUT where did you guys go? The trailer is painted another color and has a sign up saying that Snap Kitchen is coming soon. I hope you guys just moved locations.

I’ve been here once and liked it. I’ve been back several times within the last 3 weeks and they seem to have closed down. Are they permanently closed? Wish they’d let the fans know what’s going on.

A cool trailer, literally. You have to open the doors of this ice box when ordering. As my friend and I were on a trailer food odyssey before she goes off to grad school at OU, we had multiple meals and started splitting dishes. We got the tuna sashimi, $ 8. We watched the chef labor over it, and it was great. However! We noticed that the lotus chips were definitely missing. My friend took it back up to the counter and both chefs were immediately apologetic and mentioned that they were out of them, they were expensive, can’t guarantee they all look good, etc. While I think it kinda sucked that they didn’t address the issue before/during/after we ordered, they did, however, totally make up for it. The chef asked what we liked and whipped us up something special and brought it out to us. See photos. So uh, until they change their sign or warn ya, definitely mention the lack of lotus chips! Prices weren’t too bad. They had some ready-made concoctions that rivaled Kroger sushi prices. Afterwards, we were too full for the kimchi neighbor, but not for Patika. Awesome corner on Congress. We parked at the meters a block away and hoofed it.

I had a great Octopus with Soba noodles. Nice and crunchy. The owners and chef came outside to shoot the breeze. When I am back in Austin I will check it out again.

Nope. Didn’t eat here. Might have sometime, but wow — holy rudeness — not sure now. We were sitting at a table nearby(no signage declaring Sushi Box seats only) enjoying food from other trucks. Two of us went back for more, leaving two empty seats. A girl came out of no where and asked if we were using the seats. We said we were — but she took one of the chairs anyway, saying, «I’m just going to take this one.» Us, «Oh, maybe you didn’t hear, we have a friend coming back.» Her, «Well, I work here and I don’t see you eating our food.» Can we go back to the part where there was no sign?

I was craving something other than BBQ or Tex Mex and the Sushi Box actually fit the bill. I was a bit skeptical — I mean, it’s sushi. in a box… BUT it was seriously good. Had the spicy salmon rolls and the Tuna Tartare salad(which is made to order) — both rocked and was fresh! The menu was not very easy to read and the vibe is a little intimidating when you order — but the grub was good. I heart all the food carts in this town!

I am vegetarian, so I have eaten a LOT of veggie nori rolls over the years. The one I had from Sushi Box today was hands down the best veggie roll I’ve ever had. I also got a ginger salad. Wow. Almost too spicy to eat, but even so the bright flavors of carrot, arugula, sprouts and cucumbers shone through. Heavenly. And served with little slices of some exotic eat-the-skin orange on top.(Not kumquat — I asked!)

today I walked past Chi’lantro bbq and went to Sushi box — yeah, walked past the long line of chilantro hopefuls! SB have a friday special — chicken & veggie japanese curry with a pepper miso sauce over rice. it was YUM! i must note that the ingredients were interesting and unique — i think i spotted a lotus root(native to very special indian/asian cuisine) and the taste was very very gourmet, not just a bunch of curry powder in vegetables and sauce. The chef is super creative and very friendly too. quantity is perfect, on the smaller portion size so its great. they have stiff competition from Chi’lantro on some days and kebabalicious too. however, another day while we were chomping on our chi’lantro tacos(pretty cheesy-greasy), the lady Kate came by and gave us some free samples and said to come over some time. which I did, i liked that move. haven’t tried their sushi rolls yet but it all looks great. he makes it right in front of you. one of the best sushi options in downtown for lunch for under $ 10! they’re a new local business, so go and get some sushi and Unilocal them!

This place was absolutely delicious! I usually don’t have high expectations from sushi trailers, but Sushi Box was seriously awesome. I tried the spicy tuna roll, and it was so good! I also had their special earlier today — it was a Japanese curry with chicken and veggies with a pepper miso sauce over rice, and it was absolutely amazing. Their curry was the best I’ve ever had — seriously delicious. The strawberry shortcake was also really good. I personally haven’t tried the vegetable roll, but I’ve also heard really good things about that. And as was said in one of the earlier reviews… they have perfect portions. So, I’d definitely recommend it… the place itself is cool, the food is delicious and fresh, and service is quick and friendly. I’d say Sushi Box is one of my top favorite sushi places in Austin now.

The 2nd and Congress food trailer park is now complete. You have no idea how excited I was when this place first opened. I love sushi. I love trailers. And I work a block away! Can you say«dream come true?» Sushi box is pretty much HEB prices, but with way fresher and better sushi. The rolls are all around $ 7, and are delicious. It’s like sushi heaven. They have other stuff too that you’d typically find with sushi, like edamame and miso soup. Oh I love miso soup. Honestly, when I walk into Sushi Box, I want to walk out with everything in their nice little case at the front. I might just go there now and do that.

An excellent new addition to the downtown food trailer community! I stopped in with Mark D. on opening day, and have been back twice since then. The spicy salmon roll is delicious. Normally I’m all about spicy tuna, but I think they have me converted(although I tried the spicy tuna and it’s great too). I also have to say that their seaweed salad is among the best I’ve ever had. Apparently they make all of their own sauces, which I think adds to the freshness and variety of flavors in their rolls and salad dressings. Beyond the food itself, I really like the business model for this place. In the past when I’ve had a sushi craving at lunchtime, I’ve often gone to Whole Foods to pick up their pre-made sushi. The only problem is that you can never be sure if you’re getting a roll that is freshly made or one that has been sitting around for hours. That’s not the case at Sushi Box. Chef Ben is making rolls constantly throughout peak lunch hours so it’s all very fresh. They do have a few rolls in their cold case so that you can grab one easily if you’re in a hurry, but it’s easy to get a customized roll if you have particular preferences(i.e. no sauce) and are willing to wait just a few minutes. Chef Ben and Katie are very nice — I highly recommend that you stop in for some sushi and chat with them next time you’re looking for a lunch spot downtown.

Yes Austin we have another food trailer and sushi at that! Sushi Box set up shop less than a week ago alongside a few other trailers near 2nd& Congress. I stopped in for lunch yesterday and ordered the spicy tuna roll minus the spicy mayo. The tuna was of good quality, fresh and the thinly shredded garnish of onion gave the roll a good kick. I am with Colette F on the rice and also must note the rice to fish ratio was perfect. Employees, Chef Ben and Katie were super friendly and entertained all my silly questions(I tend to have a lot of them) and also offered me a ginger salad on the house. The ginger salad was a nice guilt free mixed greens salad with a tasty ginger dressing. The pluses: 1. The trailer is temperature controlled and you must enter the trailer to order keeping you and the fish at a good temperature 2. The menu changes a little daily offering different salads and rolls 3. They have deserts! 4. The staff is amazingly friendly 5. They use recyclable plastic containers that are also great because they are resealable(if you are on the go) 6. Although they make to order there are also grab n go pre made options if you are in a hurry I really enjoyed my lunch at Sushi Box and will definitely be back for lunch soon again. Now if we could just convince them to open in the evenings and weekends(hint hint).

Having stalked Sushi Box’s progress from across the street for a while now, I was excited to hear that they’d finally opened. The problem with anticipating something like this, though, is that if it’s not good… you’re really let down. Not the case. In fact, it was even better than I could have imagined. I had the spicy tuna roll(my standard, no matter where I go) and the Philly roll. Both were tremendous. No lie: the spicy tuna roll is THE best spicy tuna roll I have ever had in my entire life. And there is something about the rice. I can’t put my finger on what makes it special, but it’s SO good. Finally, I love their style. This is a beautiful food trailer. The converted shipping container is industrial fabulous. I wish Sushi Box a ton of success. If they keep this up, they will have more than earned it.

The best sushi I have had in a long time… and I eat a lot of sushi. VERY fresh! Reasonably priced. The owner was super nice. I will definately be back soon! It is behind the other trailers between 2nd and 3rd on Congress.

OPENINGDAY — Finally here!!! Working in an office building close by the Sushi Box, I have seen the«trailer» come to life over that past couple of weeks and I have been getting excited about its opening. I strolled in a little after the lunch rush so most of their sushi made for the day was out of the refrigerated case, but NO problem… the chef Ben gladly made a couple of rolls(California, Spicy Salmon) and a Tuna Tartar. All were equally delicious. Comparatively, this trailer definitely beats going to a place like Piranha around the corner in terms of BOTH price and quality. It is a great change of pace to have a delicious and affordable sushi place right in the heart of downtown Austin. They mentioned they will be changing the menu some from opening day, but I definitely will be back again once they roll out their official/changing menu. YUM
