We have been twice and both times the food and service has been excellent. We have tried a variety of sushi and sashimi, fried rice, yakisoba and Korean dishes. All have been great. It’s a small place but nicely furnished. It has not been crowded when I have been there but I hope they do well and stick around.

When you first enter, you basically walk into a big cabinet. There’s nowhere to really stand. Really weird. We sat in the booth there by the door and waited 15 minutes for water. My kids’ rolls came out 15 minutes after that. Then 20 minutes later, our appetizer came out. Then we had to wait 35 minutes for my food to arrive. The place was not even half full. The service here is terrible. After all that waiting, the food and sushi are subpar at best. The sushi rolls are all basically the same few ingredients. Maybe this is good for people who enjoy Chinese buffet sushi or cheap takeout, but I was totally ticked. I will never eat here again. We eat sushi weekly, and there are A LOT better places. When we asked the waitress what the problem was, she told us to-go orders get filled first before those of us sitting here dining inside the restaurant. We never did get all our rolls because after well over an hour eating food that wasn’t good, we just wanted to leave. Definitely go somewhere else to eat!

We have been eating here several times last year and it is always so good. I really like the yuk gae jaeng, sushi combo, chicken teriyaki. Tried it again this year and still very good. The family owns this place and are so friendly.

Open again! I had missed out while my family recommended it, and now I know what I was missing. Very nice food and mochi. I’ll be back again for sure.

I’m very picky on the type of sushi/Korean/Japanese food I go for. Food is awesome. I go by freshness and effort of the execution. Also, the service is great(which getting 2⁄2 is hard to get).If I’m craving for some really good sushi, I’m coming here. As long as those two things maintain, I will always come here for repeated business. KEEPITUP.

This restaurant is good, but I have to admit, I like some of the other sushi restaurants in the area better. We had the spicy tuna and California rolls. The rolls tasted fine but nothing special. The quality of the tuna wasn’t great. As an appetizer we had the spicy gyoza and both enjoyed it. I had the spicy ramen and although I thought it had good spice to it, the quality of the ramen is nothing like that of Ramen Tatsu-ya. Being that this is so close to my house, I do see myself coming back some time because of convenience.

My wife and I went back today but«I» was on a «special mission» to try something new. She was going to have the more traditional fare… like Maki’s and Nigiris and I wanted to try one of their special dishes that is a kind of Sashimi Salad. On the menu it is called«Hoidobap». This dish comes in a very large bowl –going upward-, in the bottom of which is rice then salad, then a multitude of Raw Fish and comes with your choice of a Soya based sauce or Spicy Korean Sauce. We had it with the Spicy Korean Sauce. In a word, F A B U L O U S!!! And the portioning was really set for 2! ***I am ADDICTED***! On a more traditional note, my wife had the lunch special that consisted of 2 Sushi rolls(fresh fish and well filled makis) fresh miso soup, and an Asian Salad, all for Under $ 11.00; Wow! All was«as it should be», fresh and delicious! Thank you, Again! Eric

I was pretty surprised at how big a fan I became of the former occupant of this space, – the quirky little sushi shop that had no business being as good as it was. Unfortunately, they also had no business, full stop, and so became Sushi Ocean. And the world is a little worse for it, sadly. From the outside, you’d be forgiven for not realizing anything had changed. In a spirit of frugality, they’ve made as minimal a change to the signage as possible — the large-scale equivalent of scratching out«.com» and penciling in «Ocean». The inside and the menu are another story. Gone is the psychedelic weirdness of , which always looked like the aftermath of an explosion in a highlighter factory. Sushi Ocean opts instead for a perfectly normal strip mall Japanese décor. Serviceable, but boring. The menu remains extensive. Unfortunately, it’s also pretty repetitive. There are a lot of choices, but the rolls in particular seem to be a bunch of barely differentiated variations on a theme, and that theme is avocado. Lots and lots of avocado. At times, it starts to feel like Monty Python’s Spam skit. Avocado, rice, tuna, and avocado. Avocado, avocado, salmon, nori, and avocado. Lobster Thermidor à Crevette with a mornay sauce served in a Provençale manner with shallots and aubergines garnished with truffle pâté, brandy and with a fried egg on top and avocado. You get the idea. They do have an à la carte menu for rolls, which is much appreciated, though I had to ask for a marker. There’s a selection of Korean dishes jammed in there, too(didn’t try any, but good to know). There’s something called«Ocean Sauce» which seems indistinguishable from spicy mayo, but since both are listed, I guess it must be different(the wag in me wants to suggest it’s probably made with avocado, but it’s clearly not). The food is fresh and tasty, but the preparation seems a bit haphazard. Rolls looked poorly formed and they all kind of fell apart; sashimi pieces were huge(great from a value point of view, less so from a trying-to-manipulate-with-chopsticks point of view) and a bit irregular. As I said, though, the quality of the ingredients was still very good, and everything tasted fine. Perhaps just a bad day behind the bar. The staff is attentive and friendly, but I missed the enthusiasm of the guys, who were always excited to see you and more than willing to offer suggestions. If it sounds like I’m being harsh, I don’t really mean to. Sushi Ocean is perfectly serviceable. But I… well, I never thought I’d say it, but I miss , with its weird name, disastrously funky décor, and hyper-enthusiastic staff. There was something special about that weird little hole-in-the-wall. Its replacement is just okay. I feel like I should pour 40 oz of soy sauce out on the curb or something. RIP, .

We tried this place for the first time and we were pleased! For the price point and location the food is excellent. A variety of offerings that are sure to keep all eaters in your party happy. Pleasant service. Loved the avocado/crab appetizer… yum! We will back again soon!

I’ve been coming here for a while, due to its proximity to my work. Since the transition from I haven’t come in as often, but glad I stopped by today. I love that they’re expanding their offerings, and now include some Korean dishes. Very friendly staff, but not hovering. The complimentary side dishes made the meal. Very enjoyable experience, and finally presents itself like a real grown-up restaurant to match.

Times have changed for the better… and so has this location; by leaps and bounds. At this location, there was a previous business that catered to similar food fare, name withheld to protect the innocent, but now the new owners have revived the location to new high levels. First appearances are everything. The new owners got it right. It’s cozy, quiet, welcoming, and simply feels better now when you walk in(than before). While dining in, I had Salmon Sashimi and the Spicy Ramen with tea. The salmon sashimi was good and as good as you would expect, but the things I would like to give great stars to was the Spicy Ramen(with fried egg). There are many places to eat Phở around the area North of Austin and in Round Rock, but not many that serve Ramen essentially. I have to say, their broth, meat, noodles, and flavors were really great on my bowl of Ramen I was given. The chicken broth base was a red/orange tomato flavor looking Ramen with meat, veggies, and a solid spicy kick that was everlasting in each bite or slurp. It wasn’t just added in to make it «spicy» in your mouth when you first ate it(then fades), it was good all the way through. I have a spicy palate and it only took me about two bites and slurps to make my nose wake up and my stomach to crave more. I can totally see myself coming back here when I have a stuffy head or am feeling ill; as this Spicy Ramen would definitely start me on a road to a cure. Overall, I do see myself coming back for more. Their menu had a wide variety of Asian items that drew my interests. One of the items in the appetizer section was called the«monster.» It was an avocado mixed with spicy shrimp, cheese, etc. and seemed good. The young lady who waited on me noted that it was one of her favorites. So, therein lies many choices on the menu and I hope that I have time to come back and try them all, but for now; the sushi/sashimi may be good, but come for the Spicy Ramen because it tastes great!

TERRIBLESERVICE! I just went today for lunch and sat there for a whole hour and never received my lunch. I ordered the Dynamite Rolls and it wasn’t a matter of them forgetting I ordered, they just never made them. Not once did the waiter acknowledge my long wait until the very end when my lunch hour was gone and I asked for the ticket. He then said sorry and said he would remove it from the ticket. Not once did he say well considering you didn’t get to eat, we will remove it and you can take the lunch. This was my favorite sushi place when it was called but the service now is terrible. I definitely don’t recommend it!

I really like this place. Note: if you come expecting (the previous restaurant) you will be disappointed because they have a completely different menu. What they do have is delicious, though. They have fresh sushi at a reasonable price with great service. They get extra points for changing the name to Sushi Ocean instead of .com, upgrading the interior decorating, and being super efficient. Fancy presentation doesn’t hurt, either.

Bento box is nice. Really fresh swordfish. The restaurant is not too fancy, but is nice and clean. Family run and courteous. Staff is really friendly and nice. Love the food and the service. Any guest I got along with me raves about the sushi and salmon quality. I highly recommend this place.

I have been a frequent guest at the and when they sold their establishment to sushi ocean my family was very nervous to try a new hole in the wall sushi restaurant. We came during the grand opening back in December 2014 and come to find out the food want as great as . Upon our most recent visit in January 2015 we were very disappointed in our experience. The rolls were all poorly assembled and tasted of very low quality ingredients. The salmon topping the rolls was shredded and had an unbearable fishy smell and taste accompanied by a very poor imitation crab meat inside. Overall the experience was not as expected. We will be on the lookout for a new establishment to accommodate our sushi needs.

I have eaten here twice and yes it is not a fancy place. The food however is good and fresh and it is inexpensive compared to most sushi joints. You can tell it is family owned/managed and the wait staff will eagerly bow to you as you enter and leave.

Awesome restaurant! Can’t understand why the 1 star… Notice that 5 people gave reviews with 5 starts and Unilocal is not considered them. Great value and delicious food! Worth trying :)

I’m very sad that closed and this place took it’s spot. My husband called today to order our usual from (which was delicious by the way) and the girl informed him that it is now called«sushi ocean» with the same logo as That’s weird. We decided to order anyways and give it a try since some of the things on the menu sounded the same as . I ordered a round rock roll because that was the best roll at . This was the worst roll I’ve ever had in my life and I’ve eaten a lot of sushi. It tasted like canned tuna and didn’t have any of the ingredients that were listed in the description. The garlic edamame was soggy and bland and I couldn’t even finish it. For a business that hasn’t been open very long, your edamame should be fresh along with your sushi. Waste of money and I’ve lost my appetite!
