The 10:30 show this past Saturday made a random trip to Austin pretty special. The improvisers were committed and collaborative and just really neat to watch. It was something different and for $ 5 and the option to bring your own drink, it was a solid experience even if it was last minute. It was a bit cold inside, the weather definitely not helping but perhaps the air conditioning was also on? I’d bring your jacket if you are cold sensitive.

Went here for a comedy show, the crowd was very small(about 10 people) Their website said admission was $ 5. They charged us $ 7. Strike one. That peeved me but we paid and went in. It’s small and dark. We grabbed seats in the back and waited for the show. Before it started the host of the show made us move up closer. That really annoyed me for some reason, I mean we were 2 of the 10 people there. Strike 2! The host comes on stage and says they’re cutting the number of acts and the times they have on stage! Strike 3! Buuuttttt I paid. So I stayed. I AMSOGLAD I DID! The comics they had on that night were so funny. I was laughing the entire time and really enjoyed my self. It was dirty, clever, and hilarious. I will definitely be back and maybe I can make this place 4 or 5 stars!

I enjoyed some of the stand up comedians, but honestly, I was slightly offended. The staff was pretty rude, and we were charged a lot more than advertised– with a reassurance that next time we come we would be given a show for free… Otherwise there was not a lot of people at all, and some of the jokes were very dark. It is as they say I guess– extremely uncensored. The audience was also rude to our group as well.

Went on a Sunday. $ 5 I got a free soda, water, and you could get free beer. The comedians were pretty funny and they had this cool improve session at the end. I would recommend this place if you’re looking for some laughs and to explore the comedy scene in Austin.

The shows are reasonably priced($ 5-$ 10), it’s BYOB, and the digs are low-key and intimate. Staff is friendly and comedians seem to be very talented. It’s definitely worth checking out.

BYOB, Comedy and Improv make for a fun time. I’ve seen lots of great shows here and would recommend this place to folks who love comedy. I like that its an intimate theatre, theres always a show going on and theres plenty of amazing talent and friendly regulars. Check online for shows and buy tickets early, its a small venue! Side notes: Cash/CC OK, BYOB, They sell water and sodas there, watch your steps there are ramps and steps. thinking about going for it? ask about the classes or check in on Unilocal for a discount on classes.

Came to see live comedy Saturday night, ended up watching a lot more YouTube videos than I would’ve liked from a live performance. Acts seemed unprepared, appreciate the effort but if you’re charging good money then substance is required.

Saw Bad Example. Funny show in cool underground location. No waiting in line and awesomely priced. Also LOVE that it was byob-more beer = funnier jokes. The dance interpretation of losing your iphone made me laugh my ass off. Only cons-the seats were gross and looked like stuff had been spilled all over them. Talked to one of the younger/newer comedians after the show and he was kind of rude.

I’ve never been in a worse mood after an improv show. I went for a wednesday night show because why not, it was free, it’s not a bad place and it’s byob which is fun. However, their humor ended up being largely dependent on making fun of minorities, women, and Islam. Yes, there’s the old school of thought that humor can be crass, it can be offensive, it’s all good fun. I guess that might fly in a room of entirely white people, which it pretty much was. But I guess I’m used to funnier, better improv that doesn’t make jokes at the expense of people who are marginalized. A lot of their humor was racist, homophobic, islamophobic, and trivialized violence against women. Thanks no thanks. Y’all, don’t perpetuate stuff like this. I had higher hopes in a city like Austin, but no go.

I came here with my girlfriend on a Saturday night not knowing much about this venue. The place is underground and there is a little lounge to wait prior to seating. Most people ran out to 7 – 11 to pick up some drinks since its BYOB. Note: there was a $ 5 cover charge The stage and seating had a unique charm to it however the improv show was a big let down. It was mildly entertaining and was definitely amateurish. It seemed like college students just practicing improv more than anything. I was pretty tempted to walk out but my girlfriend seemed to enjoy bits and pieces of the show. Then again, she was drunker than I was. Final word: If you got a stash of your momma’s booze, broke and got nothing to do — might as well drink here. Get some laughs or pass out in the corner. I’m sure both are acceptable. Those of you looking for a more cultured experience or have better taste. look elsewhere.

A little hole-in-the-wall comedy club. I went here with a buddy of mine a few weeks ago. It’s alright, nothing to write home about. Maybe a little on the hipster side, but then again this is Austin so what do you want.

I love the Do Good Comedy shows that they host once a month! Can I think of anything better than donating to charity and laughing my ass off/playing videogames? I definitely will be returning for some of their other shows because if this is the sort of talent they book, then I know this place is great! I give it 5 hearty chuckles!

This place is the tits. I absolutely love it. I have taken Improv Levels 1 – 2 here with G-Su and Amy and they are incredible. What a fun experience. These teachers know their stuff! The best part is that the teachers are full time comedians– so they are super passionate about comedy and about teaching! It is great for all skill levels and would be perfect for anyone looking to get into comedy or someone just looking to get over their fear of public speaking. It’s a great way to meet new people and to have a blast doing it. Also– if you want to have a fun, inexpensive night out, their shows are genius. It’s usually just $ 5 and it’s BYOB… what could be better? GOTHERENOW!

Recently discovered this great underground theater with improve shows only $ 5 bucks on Saturday night. There were 3 different types of shows you could choose from in the evening. The actors in the show were students from the school that is associated with this theater. Very relatable and real. It left actually thinking that improve classes were something that might be something even I could participate in. My friend and I had a great time and a few chuckles. You pay in cash prior to the show, no pre-bought tickets, and you can BYOB to enjoy during the show. Relaxed and fun. Definitely inspires the inner comedic in us all.

The New Movement is perfect for what it is: a hole in the wall with some great talent. Unassuming is great way to describe this place. It kind of reminds me of my college friend’s party basement: BYOB and it’s as fun as you make it. Outdoor lights and stacking chairs? Done and done. A band playing in the cramped space by the front door? Check. The lawyer that rocks as a guest? You betcha. I’ve been to two shows, both of which were well worth the meager amount of money I paid to get in. All of the people are really chill and friendly.

Have you ever wanted to bear hug the shit out of a group of people? I want to do that to The New Movement Austin. I have had the pleasure of performing and watching some amazing shows in this theater. The space is such a cool comedy theater. The awesome pictures out front, the green room off of the stage, the classroom in the back, and even the stage itself all made me grin from ear to ear when I first walked in. Of course I am huge fans of Chris and Tami, but the other people that make up this theater are amazing and welcoming as well. I felt like I had arrived at my very cool cousin’s house and couldn’t wait to start partying. Do yourself a gigantic favor and go see a performance of Handbomb, Opposites, Waterpark. heck they are all good! Ok, now the important parts: BYOB, amazing and cheap comedy shows, friendly magical people all over the place. Austin, go now and support your local comedians who are doing some kickass things on Lavaca!

New Movement has both Improv and Stand Up shows at very affordable prices. I’ve seen several shows, including their Open Mic night and enjoyed myself. It is also, BYOB! They are a bit hard to locate. They’re at the corner of 7th and Lavaca(on Lavaca) but their sign just has a? on it.

BYOB and improv. Why not? I don’t quite know all the rules to improv, but we went for the Opposites show on a Wednesday night. The folks performing with their class make you realize no matter how funny you think you are, this stuff is hard. The two guys that host Opposites are pretty funny and show you what it’s like to see improv done by folks that have worked at it. It was all engaging enough that the hour plus we were there flew by. Go support some local folks. Their location has changed from the previous east side digs to the basement of the Masonic Lodge at 7th and Lavaca. There’s plenty of room to not feel crowded, but all close enough that it’s intimate. Use the bathroom somewhere else though. These folks are actors, not janitors.

I just went to a performance, but man, what a cool joint. Owners are out and about talking to people, all the aspiring comedians had great things to say(and on a whole were very funny). I’ve been back twice, and just might sign up for the classes. Recommended highly! It’s BYOB, which is cool, but arrive early to get a seat, or the floor will be calling your name.
