I recommend that you never eat here. If you really have a hankering for pizza, do yourself a favor and walk to 7-eleven and microwave a box of totinos pizza rolls and chug a bud light. It would be a tremendous upgrade from the onions terrible pizza.

Good pizza, plenty of sauce and toppings. Also very nice and friendly service. The name almost scared me away, but I’m glad I came in. It’s literally a hole in the wall, but it was super.

This is a great little place for a quick bite of pizza downtown. There are no frills — it’s just straight to the point good pizza. It’s not«nice» inside — it’s super small and a little dingy, but in a charming way. The guy behind the counter isn’t overly friendly, but nice enough. The pizza was very tasty, pretty cheap, and the guy even gave me a discount because I work in the hospitality industry. I highly recommend The Onion for a quick bite to eat — lunch, dinner, or late night.

One of my other favorite pizza places in Austin. Still like home slice better, but the Onion also has a good pizza also. Tomato Sauce has a little sweetness to it which you may or may not like.

Decent. Walked in expecting more options. He told me what I see is what I get(4 choices). Had the basic pepperoni because it looked the most tempting out of all of them. Good but wouldn’t recommend the place from my first experience.

Maybe my expectations have gotten too high for late night pizza, but my experience at The Onion was sub-par primarily on account of price. Star 1: How were the service and atmosphere? The Onion is a small and quick walk in where the pizza is routinely made and then thrown under the classic heat lamps before being whisked away by one of many drunken passers by. Service is fast, friendly, and they take credit cards, which I appreciate. Star Granted. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? This is my primary gripe. I can walk through the streets of virtually any city in this country and get an edible slice of pie for $ 1. one. that’s it. For whatever reason, here at The Onion they’re of the opinion that they can charge $ 4.25 for a piece of pizza that, while decent size, isn’t anything special. That’s too much. Plain and simple. $ 4.25 can get me a chick fil a sandwich, a burger, or something else that’s of much higher quality than this piece of pizza. No Star Granted. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? Let’s break it down, although it’s a bit difficult with something as simple as pizza: Crust: Not particularly flavorful, but good consistency Toppings: I went with sausage and jalapeños, and was honestly a bit disappointed with the lack of flavor from either. Good distribution and portions though — just at the expense of quality Cheese: It didn’t all come off when I bit into it, so there’s the win, but once again not too much flavor. All in all — mediocre. Single Star Granted. Star 5: Would you eat here every day if you could? I wouldn’t — particularly given the cost. No Star Granted.

What is this rag!!! I am not impressed they left this dirty rag on top of my pizza, disgusting. When I opened the box at home it was in it. So gross.

meh. I got a quick pepperoni pizza slice, and the best part about it was the«quick.» It wasn’t memorable beyond that, with so many Roppolo’s around the general area I’d rather do them instead. My slice wasn’t heated very well, that could have been part of the problem — at higher temperatures it may have been more enjoyable. A cheap meal, but not that great.

We go here for lunch at least once a week. It’s super cheap(their lunch special is great) and the pizza never disappoints!

The husband and I had an appoint around the corner from this spot one afternoon and decided to stop in here for lunch before hand. We had been in the area before and I knew I wanted to check it out, because well it’s pizza and I love pizza! They had lunch specials posted — 2 slices for $ 6.25. They had the premade pizzas out too that just needed to be heated up. I chose the Jamaican Jerk and pepperoni pizza slices, while Steve H chose the Veggie and pepperoni and sausage pizza slices. The slices were pretty big new york style I would say. The pizza was good all around and I enjoyed the Jamaican Jerk — it was spicy and sweet, plus it had pineapple! I love pineapple on my pizza! The crust could have been a little better in my opinion, but it was still good. FYI — the place is small — it is more of a grab and go type place really. They do have a bar with about 5 or 6 bar stools set up, but that is it for seating. I would definitely consider this as an A-OK lunch stop for some pizza.

The Onion has some of the best pizza in Austin. The owners and workers there are some of the coolest people I’ve ever met. Very friendly and down to earth. Their pizzas are crispy and delicious, I recommend it whether you’re going for lunch or your just drunk in downtown at night.

There is not much to say about this joint. The pizza«sucks balls»! And it’s filthy dirty. What little flavor there is in the pie likely is the dirt falling from the ceiling and walls as they make the pies. Seriously, if you choose from the display case choose wisely. Food kept in this manner can kill you. No joke!

Pizza was decent, but the inside of this place is a disaster. Wouldn’t have stayed if I wasn’t so Hungry. No inside seating. Three different signs basically telling you that you need to tip them… Which I find quite offensive especially when the service was sub par… Didn’t even get a thank you when I tipped or let alone paid for food at their dirty establishment. Will not return next time I’m in Austin.

The sign says late night for a reason. Either you have the munchies like something mad or you just got done popping bottles, and lack a sense of taste in your poor inebriated state. Cheap! Soggy and greasy. Tomato sauce is straight up the kind you buy in a jar at the grocery store for self made pizzas. So gummy you can’t pick the slices up. Total meh. But the guy serving it sounds like Seth rogan. So there’s that.

Hands down the best pizza I’ve had! Even better when it’s late night. Somehow every time we are in Austin, we find a way to make a special trip to get our pizza fix. The pizza is thin and cooked right in front of you. The best part is the spicy pizza sauce. This is place is highly recommended!

Came in to try the«Chicken George» pizza after it was suggested to us by a friend in Austin.(We were visiting from Houston) It was delicious!!! :-) The crust was just right! Prices were awesome as well. The staff was very polite! (They even looked up the nearest Post Office for us because we were looking for one.) Unfortunately we had to pay $ 20 for 2 hours of parking on a nearby lot. :-( That’s TOTALLY not The Onion’s fault though! So if you go… be prepared to pay more for parking than your entire meal! ;-) It’s a cozy eatery. but we were the only patrons in at the time so it wasn’t an issue. We would definitely come back & try some of their other offerings!

Great pizza ! Probably one of the better tasting pizzas in the downtown area. I give it two stars because the guy working is very rude! Doesn’t wanna be bothered. I don’t know if he was having a bad day or maybe there was another reason…

3.5 for me. The pizza is nothing special but is a perfectly acceptable and tasty NY Pizza style slice. Slices are about 2 for 6.50 at lunch and are a pretty decent size. This place has never been busy in the 6 or 7 years I’ve been coming, albeit very infrequently. There usually is only 1 or 2 people working the entire place, but wait times haven’t been bad for me, for coming in for lunch. Don’t expect a huge selection at lunch as there are usually 4 – 5 types to choose from, which they throw into an oven to reheat. The pepperoni is my favorite here, and it’s a fine, no frills spot for a slice or two downtown.
