The UPS Store

Unfortunately, there isn’t a way to give no stars. I paid $ 150 for a special computer box to ship from there in addition to shipping because we didn’t have the original packaging. They packaged it so poorly, I suspect they got interrupted and then forgot it was a computer. Now they’re sketchy about the insurance with a whole list of excuses. We should have called earlier, saved the big big box, and the owners can’t call us because they’re «busy busy people».
The computer is toast and there’s no responsible person to talk with about a reasonable resolution. Since the outside of the box wasn’t punctured I didn’t insist that the driver wait while I open it, and because there was no obvious damage to the computer when when I took it out of the bubble wrap, I threw away the packaging. We saved it in the plastic sheath that was under the bubble wrap until a specialist arrived to turn it on. That was today, two weeks later, and unfortunately there are bumps in the metal and the glass shattered when my husband lifted it onto the desk.
There is a young man with good manners at the store who says he’s the manager, however doesn’t act like he understands anything. Now I find out the receipt said we packaged it ourselves. Luckily, I took a picture of it on the counter — not in a package — with him in the background. The whole situation is so completely crazy, I think he might be one of those people who gets kicks out of making a mess of things and then sitting back and being polite.
Anyway, it looks like people who have had problems have written real reviews and the owners are too busy to talk to their customers because they’re writing their own 5-​star reviews. They look fake to me.

The employees were knowledgeable, accommodating, and nice, and I got everything done that I needed to get done. They didn’t have wifi. That said, I ended up getting a great recommendation from them for a café with wifi. I’d knock a star off for the lack of wifi, but I noticed the personal touch when the manager got a call about a customer with a PO box there having passed away, and rather than just handling the logistics of closing her PO box, he also offered his sincere condolences in a way that clearly showed his empathy. You don’t see that every day, and I appreciate it.

The staff is actually really nice! But I just realized this store has been charging me double mailing US Postal. Today I just needed postage on a document package. The staff member told me the postage was $ 5 and change but needed to charge me $ 10 and change because they up charge a 100% on postage! I was in a hurry so went with it. It’s a nominal fee but left a bad taste in my mouth. This place is a last resort place now!!! I’ve always thought my shipping USPS fees were always higher high, and now it’s been confirmed.

Great fast service. The man was very helpful with getting my packaged shipped and packed. Nice location with good parking for being dt. Fast easy and to the point

I agree with the other Unilocaler Victor — do not go here! You want them to be fair and helpful? I just wanted an important document faxed and but they said that it wouldn’t go through and sent me on my way. I had to come back and I thought that they might re-​send it for free. Nope. And the reason they hadn’t been able to send it was because they sent it to my cell phone number.
They said it was a miscommunication, took no responsibility for the mistake that they made. Blamed me. I know that it was only a fax but taking responsibility for what they do? Not gonna happen. I ship things out daily for my business but I need fair and professional workers for assistance. Obviously that would not go well!

Terrible Customer Service. I called this store in advance to ask if they shipped packaged furniture from IKEA. I needed to send it from Austin to Laredo, TX. They said that this was pretty standard, so I asked for an estimate. I gave them the dimensions and weight of each package. I later went to the store with the packages and had them measured, weighed and labeled by the store employee. All furniture came directly from the IKEA warehouse, packaged and sealed there. None of it had been opened. I paid $ 150 for the delivery. A few days later I got a call from the person in Laredo who was to receive the packages stating that two had been returned to Austin because of some «defect». When I went back to the UPS Store to investigate, I was shown the two boxes, and was appalled by the damage caused to them. It literally looked as if they had fallen out of a moving truck! But what was more alarming was the response given to me by the UPS Store employee, the manager, and the owner. No one took responsibility for the situation. In fact, they told me that I had two options: 1) Remove the boxes from the store or 2) Pay an additional fee to have the boxes re-​sent to Laredo. They said they would do their best to «protect» the boxes this time. Never did anyone offer an apology for such an outcome, much less a refund. They kept blaming UPS Delivery for the entire issue, stating that it was a company separate from theirs. All they could do was file a claim on my behalf. So to summarize: I paid $ 150 for the delivery of packages inspected and labeled by the UPS Store. The packages got severely damaged in the process and were returned to the store. And I had to pay an additional fee to have them delivered to their original destination. If you’re concerned about sending something that needs to be delivered as scheduled, in it’s original condition, and for the originally agreed upon fee, then go somewhere else. Never consider the UPS Store at 1108 Lavaca St. They deserve a zero star rating, but this website wouldn’t allow me to post this without at least one star.

This is a small store that is really convenient in the area. The staff is immediately attentive and helpful, which is always nice.
I was there to drop off a pre-​paid package that I had not boxed yet — I had my own supplies, but they still offered to help. They even offered a receipt for the package!
An added bonus is that there is 15 minute drop off parking in front of the store!

Fantastic location. Fantastic service. I was in town for a symposium and didn’t want to have to check a bag with the liquids and large heavy books I had acquired during my week in Austin. I packed a small box with everything and brought it over to this UPS store in hopes that no matter how heavy, it wouldn’t cost the $ 50 that I’d have to pay if I checked it onto an airplane. I was helped by the store manager, Gillian, who was incredibly helpful and patient with me. She spent a very decent amount of time inquiring about my shipping destination and working with me to get the best possible shipping rate. I sincerely appreciate the time she spent. Instead of the worst case American Airlines special of $ 50, my box is on its way home for less than $ 15! Now that is awesome. Next time I am in town for business (or pleasure), I will not think twice about sending my boxes back home through this store. It is located right in the heart of downtown within eye-​shot of the capitol building and there is plenty of street parking available right out front.
